I don't think it's out yet but I'm pretty sure the mod's not dead, just moving at a slow pace. The team is still active over at the Total War Center I believe.

Yea, I'm pretty sure they've stopped checking this forum (as well as the proboards one), I think they're heading towards a Beta release soon :)

On an unrelated topic, Jacob's post (I know its from back in '09) made me laugh :D I think every year I was a part of it we were looking at a Christmas release :) Let's hope this is the year ;)

I doubt the team even checks .Org any more. After all, this is the first post here in two whole months! I wouldn't blame them if they did not.

well, they still work on it, just check TWC as well, actually, when you work in a mod yourselvs, you'll found that it is hard to regularly post what have you done, since if the mod was teamwork (like what mod does), you won't be sure what the others are done, and the problem is combine all the work to a working thing. Even a unit addition by a modeller could lead to wholesale CTD when combined with a coder's new files, miscommunications, unintended CTD, lost works, and "uh I forget" is a very common occurence when you work in a serious mod.

Hope this will clear ya up! I'm also looking forward to this, playing as Aztecs, to sacrifice and eat my enemies and their populations!
