    Default College Applications

I need a third college to apply to, and I simply cannot make up my mind. A nice school in the northwest US would be awesome, but I just cant seem pick one...any ideas?

(BTW, choices one and two to apply to are Harvard and MIT, just to show you the caliber of schools that I am already looking at. I am looking for my third to be a notch or so below these, in the event that I am not accepted.)

Stanford, Yale, Columbia, IDK, if Harvard and MIT are your first choice then IDK.

Stanford would be on par with what you are looking for. I give you a lot of credit to be applying to those academic institutions. A lot of hard work goes into the process. Continue to work hard!

For a notch below I'd recommend checking out the University of Washington. It has a good a academic reputation and a bit of a different atmosphere from what you are currently applying to.

I got my bachelors at UCLA, and had the opportunity to check out Stanford, it's a very nice school. I would have to agree with Ice, University of Washington also has a pretty good reputation, if you can stand cheering for the worst team in the PAC-10.

More importantly, Chuck went to Stanford.

I looked into washington, and I cannot go there. I dont have any kind of art, and I don't think I can get into one next semester.

What? You need an art class? Seriously? The last I took art was in 8th grade.

Yeap. You need a semester of some sort of art. The same goes for the ones in California.

At any rate, I have not art-ed since third grade...

Unless they count the ice-sculpting team.

Washington State University has art classes (I took one) and is rated among the top 25 schools in the country in this Wall Street Journal story.

I can attest that it has good engineering programs.

Art's an easy class, though. Just pick a picture and paint it, man. Or take, like, grade 9 art or something. I knew a girl way back when in high school. She was in grade 10 at the time, and was friends with one of my friends (who was, like me, in grade 12 at the time). Anyhow, she was allowed to take the grade 12 art class (because the art classes had no pre-requisite; she didn't require grade 9-11 art classes to take grade 12 art), and she did fiiiiiine. If you need to, have a talk with the principle or vice-principle. Set things straight; they are usually very accomodating.

Again, art classes are easy as hell, man. Except for maybe sculpturing.

The problem is, no arts start second semester, and the new system is such a pain in the ass to use that the office-folk are being very strict about making changes.

I checked the Washington State website (mostly because I could not believe a state would require an art class to get into college) and they require an art class OR an additional academic class. So WSU would work for you, Motep. CR seems like a trustworthy source on the quality of the university.
Why did the chicken cross the road?

So that its subjects will view it with admiration, as a chicken which has the daring and courage to boldly cross the road,
but also with fear, for whom among them has the strength to contend with such a paragon of avian virtue? In such a manner is the princely

I thought that was the modification they had made for the incoming class in 2012. : /

Aside from some suggestions mentioned here, consider Berkeley, strong all around, and very strong in some engineering fields.

But yeah, if you are accepted into Harvard or MIT and money isn't an issue, go for it man. What are you thinking of majoring in?

History, Mechanical Engineering, or Biochemical Engineering.

With Berkley, I have the same issues as with Washington, they want an art.

Oh, I sent washinton an email to clarify things. I am glad the application is due december 15

I'd go for biomedical engineering. Some days I was I had become a chemical engineer rather than an accountant.

According the number of friends I have in ChemEng, this is not good advice.

Everyone complains about their major. I could say the same thing about accounting.
