I can relate in many ways, and not just here. It's funny how things can turn around. Sometimes it comes to you. Other times you just have to create it for yourself (or not, but grieving over it too much isn't very healthy). Or, just wait, and see.
I remind myself of the scene from the movie "The Untouchables," with Ennio Morricone's brilliant soundtrack swelling as Malone lies bloody and dying on the floor of his apartment. With his last breath he grabs Ness by the shirt and gurgles: 'What are you prepared to do?!

Interests change with time. Some can find new within the old, while others, must constantly seek something new when that once new thing has become old. Faces, new and old, will always come and go.
