    Long muscles, if you have an athletic build it's really hard to gain any extra. Easy with the heavy weights it's kinda futile, use light dumbells instead 20 kilo a hand max, or go swimming if you have a pool nearby, swimming 20 minutes a few times a week is more than enough

    The ability to do push ups seems to vary a lot between people of otherwise similar levels of fitness. I can now do 28, when the average men my age is 30. I started off doing just 13 about a year ago (took a break before I started again a couple of months ago, started off then at 22).

    At school when we did them at PE, I could do about 8. And yet I was top of the class for badminton and tennis, I know its more coordination but I could hit powerful shots. And at football even though I was one of the smallest (I had a late growth spurt, lol) I could out-challenge anyone and out-run most people.

    My brother is the same, he tried and managed 26 push ups the other day. And he goes mountain biking all the time, does cross country, hill running, wins events where they do mixes of long distance biking/running etc.

    At boxing there are skinny, weak looking people that do 100+ push ups. And other ones that look much stronger that get stuck at around 20-30 before they have to change style.

    So it's not all about push ups. My aim it to increase my max by about 5-10 a month.

    Not masswise, but as you noticed that's hard for you. Thing with swimming is that you practically use all muscles.
