A man covered in mud and still wearing a chain shirt burst into the room. He quickly makes his way over to the French monk and hands him a battered and dirty scroll case. Without a word, the man turns and leaves.
The monk carefully opens the case and begins to read the scroll. After several moments he rises to address the assembly.

I have bad news to bring to you all today. The French Royal Domain of Norway has been forced to invade the Kingdom of Denmark.

I know this will come as a surprise to some of you, but for a number of years now Denmark has completely cut off communications with the French King. We were worried they were experiencing some sort of crisis, and sent agents to observe, but instead found them making threatening moves towards our Dear ally Poland.

Continued observation has shown that they are indeed building up a large fleet, and are greedily conquering all of Scandinavia, cutting Norway off from the continent. Taken together, this can only mean that they planned an invasion of either Norway or Poland. With Norway being so much smaller, waiting for the invasion to come would have been suicide, so the King has ordered an attack now while we have the advantage.

Everyone should know that we are not a hostile people, we were forced to do this, and God will show that we are right.

To the King of Denmark, we have nothing to say, just as he has had nothing to say to us.
