Beard my friends, but a properly taken care of one. But don't go into furry territory, that means you have to shave.

the former is stubble, not beard.

If I were to shave I would spend far less time and it would much more simple. a good looking, well trimmed beard means a hell of a lot more commitment and skill than just shaving.

Like clothing, facial hair popularity comes and goes. Beards seem to be on the rebound. I find civil war pics very amusing for the fact that everyone has wily facial hair as opposed to current military trends.

I can do that in a day.

Not shaving for at least a week or two is for a beard merely, as Churchill would say, "the end of the beginning".

About twenty-five years ago when I was in a cabin in the woods with Beirut, I went about a year or two without shaving. I had a beard you could hide chickens in. It was glorious.

It's official: Beirut's beard has become a sentient life form and is now posting on the .org.

Me and my beard have a love-hate relationship. I'll go 1-2 weeks without shaving then look in the mirror and think this isn't right at all. So I'll shave it and the cycle continues.

I only wear a full beard when I've been too lazy to shave for a while, usually in the winter when it's (arguably) fashionable.

Currently I have a moustache with the triangle under my lower lip, pirate style. I think it suits me, and so do those whose opinions of my appearance I consider to have value.

I used to add the chin hair with the above (without the sides under the mouth, which would make it a full goatee), but that has turned 50% gray, so I don't usually wear it that way anymore.

I used to wear a full goatee often when I was younger. It looked ok but got to be quite a cliche, so I started doing the pirate thing. This pic, which is buried in the Family Photos ... thread, is of me about a decade ago, with a full goat, and my bro, with his baby face:

Oh, and Vuk - I'm not sure people thinking a person look intelligent is the same thing as looking attractive.

I once had a salesman tell me I looked like an engineer. It was correct, but not exactly encouraging - the stereotype of engineers is not of attractive, well groomed people.

It does seem like goatees are very popular nowadays. Seems like I'll stick with my beard (or, really stubble - I likely won't grow it out again until the winter).

I wouldn't be surprised if Vuk was attracted to Gerard Butler .

Or Billy Mays for that matter.

    Isn't that right Vuk ?

You mean he prefers to reason with facts and empirical data points rather than prose which sounded nice when he thought of it but in hindsight also rather empty?
