The fair-play rules have been reworded. Here are the key points:
  • When charging toward an enemy unit with your cavalry and infantry, you must charge cavalry first. Not infantry first. Not cavalry and infantry stacked. That's tantamount to charging through your own men.
  • You may move cavalry through phalanxes just as you would through other units, the only exception being a unit with phalanx mode enabled. Previously, you were unable to even move your cavalry through a phalanx mode disabled unit if it was in tight formation.
  • There is a crucial line that is drawn for when you may or may not turn your phalanx unit to meet an oncoming enemy unit. Simply put, if that enemy unit is already in 'charging' status as it approaches your unit, you may not turn to meet it unfairly. If the enemy has not reached close enough to be 'charging' you, then you may indeed turn to anticipate its charge.
  • Finally, and possibly most importantly, the issue of whether or not you can re-use pikes if you have already used the phalanx's secondary weapon. Yes, you may. Here is the catch. While you are in melee with your secondary (be it axe, sword, or whatever), you may not re-enable phalanx mode for obvious purposes. But you may re-enable phalanx mode once your phalanx unit has been removed from the melee (be it by routing the enemy or simply by you retreating the phalanx).

Ask away if you have any questions regarding these changes.
