Watched Leon again, 5 movies for 5 euro yay. And I have to disagree with Krazelic, this is not a 7/10, it's a truly great movie. Nathalie Portman is simply amazing as a lolita, Gary Oldman is a bone-chilling villain, and I couldn't think of anyone else who could play the main character better. It's twisted in a way only a Frenchman could come up with, and that's a compliment. You never really know if Leon is a father figure or her lover and neither does he, he's essentially a 12 year old himself, she's in fact more mature than he is. The last 10 minutes are simply breathtaking, it just breaths desperation and violence. Incredible movie.

Oh yeah, those guys! I was thinking midgets for some reason. I didn't think they were over the top, I thought they were extremely realistic and it really added to the character development! I think we have all wondered at one time or another what we would do if confronted with a dozen tiny versions of ourselves...

Basically about a bunch of old people shooting people. But its actually really, really good. Great acting, good humor, and overall enjoyable.
Though it is a bit too silly at times.

It wasn't too heavy on the story (but the first like 10 or 15 minutes I didn't even look at), but the action is really cool and there's boobies. sort of doesn't make a ton of sense, but like I said. lots of cool action. worth seeing for sure (but of course I get in free)

Just watched the trailer for Conan the Barbarian 2, and I can assure you that is sucks. That's gotta be the same studio that made 300 (which isn't a bad thing).

I bet you saw some action and a couple of boobies, you man slut. (Just kidding of course)

A few days ago, I saw Spirited away again. I see it as Pan's labirynth with less outside drama. I still really like it.

Watched Arrietty the other day. It didn't have the wow factor of many of the other Ghibli films, but then it didn't try to compete on that level. The quality of the animation was wonderful, and although it most certainly is, I hesitate to call it a "kid's movie", as that implies a brain-numbing swirl of slapstick, cgi and idiocy which it doesn't have. Some of the characters were a bit weak (Sho in particular), but this may be due to having watched a dubbed version in the cinema rather than in Japanese with subs - in any case, having a lead female character who wasn't a stereotypical Disney Princess was like the first breath out of a coal mine. It was pleasant, charming and enjoyable, and definitely a film to watch if you're in the mood for a "quiet" film.

Wiki says that Waltz with Bashir was a Sony production. Brilliant film though, it's just so disappointing that the Oscars are always a stitch-up for Pixar.

'Inception' when does this movie gets so much praise, like The Matrix it has a premise in which everything is possible that's all. I did enjoy it though, it's well made and well acted, just too thick on the obvious.

Like you said. 'Inception' was enjoyable because of it's premise and because it was well made. It deserves the praise because it took risks in an environment that thrives on safe bets but in the end it could have been so much better.
The revolving coridor scene is amazing though (even more so if you know how they did it.)

That was incredibly awesome indeed, I have no idea how they pulled that of. But in the end it feels like a missed opportunity, they should have hired a better art-team who have taken some lessons from magical-realist painters, the dream sequences just don't do it, not as disjointed from yet close to reality as they should have been.

    Waltz With Bashir
Firstly I love animations. I believe that if used in a serious way, it can convey certain messages and stories in a better way than other media. I've always considered comics (excuse me graphic novels) and animations as a full art form. Waltz with Bashir demonstrates my point.
I loved the art style which sets the mood just right. The pacing was spot on. The viewer partly becomes the protagonist in his search for his memories of his days as a soldier in Lebanon. You become attached to the protagonist and, as the story unfolds, begin to fear with him what he did or didn't do during the war in Lebanon. A very strong animation which conveys with much subtlety and restraint the emotions of it's maker.

I did expect a more liberal use of the medium. Subtle things that are off or stylized to set the mood or make a point. Apart from a limited number of scenes everything was drawn realistically like the documentary that it actually was.

It left me silent for a few minutes. Just like Hotel Rwanda did after they stopped on the 'bumpy road'. Just like the whole time I visited Auswitch Birkenau.
Very emotionally gripping while still avoiding cheap gore. I think it's the build-up. Sabra and Shatila is mentioned early on and in the back of your head you know where this is going but the slow telling of the story, the discovery of the truth, really culminates in those last minutes.

    Iron Man 2

Nowhere near as good as the first. I felt that there wasnt a clear main plot. I was trying to decide if his internal problems or the Russian guy was the main problem to the story. They take up almost equal time in the movie, so its really ambiguous. At least the action is ok.

It was actually better than the first right up until the climax.
It was like everything they learned about SWAT tactics was just thrown out the window.

I watched The triplets of Belleville yesterday on advice of the knowledgeable people here.
A few posts above, I commented on the missed opportunity to use the full potential of the medium by Waltz with Bashir. The triplets make full use of the medium. The caricatural drawing of characters, places and objects, the exaggerated but recognizable gestures and tics, the atmosphere of the old tour de France, the visual comedy ... There is not a word of spoken dialogue in the entire movie but it still gets a great story across. An absolute must see.

One of my RL friends makes movies in his spare time. He edits them on his mac and tries to get all serious hoping he will make it big by sending his movies to people so he can get hired. He just started production on the sixth movie of his current movie series, "ThugWarrior". I have watched them all, so I can tell you what I thought of them.

"ThugWarrior": Very great. Classic X (my friends name). Showed a lot of potential on such a low budget, like Mad Max.
"ThugWarrior 2: ThugWarrior in Space": I think he stretched it too far, too soon after the success of the first one. Didn't feel satisfied at the end.
"ThugWarrior 3: Rebirth": Really solid movie. He got the train back on track in the right direction here. I could feel the Thugness radiating from ThugWarrior in this one.
"ThugWarrior 4: Rebirth 2": Not as solid as the last one. But it was in the same spot as Casino Royale/ QoS. It was a continuation that got confusing at times.
"ThugWarrior 5: All Thugs Go to Heaven": Oh hands down the best one of them. X really took it to a whole nother level with this one. Took his time in making it, but it was very much worth it.

    SPOILERS:
Now that ThugWarrior is in heaven due to the twist ending at the end of the fifth movie, I have no idea what direction my friend is going to take it in with the plot. He hasn't shown me the script for #6 yet, but he says he thinks the title might be "ThugWarrior 6: The Four ThugWarriors of the Apocalypse". Will it work though? Idk, God didn't seem like the kind of guy to send ThugWarrior on a mission. But than again, he does work in mysterious ways...
