For purely hypothetical purposes, let's assume I believe you. In that situation, then what is your plan? Is it just pure fun, or are you planning on making a new mafia family with your KGB crew?

I took another look at the two role PMs provided by Populus as revealed by Chaotix. First, the commie one is identical to the one I got from Sigurd (except that I'm higher ranked mwahah). If Populus is saying he forged that one, he would appear to be lying. Maybe he skipped 90% of the conversation and is thinking he's protecting Sigurd or something.

The other PM, the doctor one, contains this:

I don't think that this one is likely to be a forgery. Populus isn't claiming to be a town doctor only; he's claiming to be a police doctor, one of multiple FPD specialists among us. Assuming the FPD actually exists, you might think they'd have something to say about it if Populus was taking their name in vain. And I do think they exist; if nothing else, eventually someone's going to have to come forward as another of that group, and Populus would be screwed if that never happened.

I think he's what he says he is, and he wants to go mafia, and that's why he took care NOT to protect in such a way as would promote him closer to surgeon (read the whole PM; I think the word "trap" in there somewhere is supposed to be "track"). I'd like to know who his partners in protection were and what they have to say about it; I'd also expect the PD to comment at some point.

It was understood that he wasn't seriously trying to recruit communists...but sending out a fake recruitment for communists is a pretty good way to feel out who is willing to be recruited for a mafia family. So the backstory on it is very significant.

Let's be clear. Seamus is smart guy and he's not so foolish to be led astray that easily. He knows well enough that there is no Mafia and that only the communists were a real threat to the nation. That's what's so smart about his latest game set up. He pointed to Sigurd to be the communist leader and the real threat, while fooling us all that it was just a mafia game. But we won't be fooled that easily. Sigurd clearly is the town's enemy, we shouldn't be bothered with the supposedly existing mobsters. Its a waste of time.

Do me one favor. Go to your inbox and look for a message called something along the lines of your role pm, its send by Seamus. Does it say mafia? Does it say Luca, Don, made? If so please post it and my theory is disproven. Now go to the list of players and ask the person above and below you wether they are mafia. Let me guess what they'll say: 'no'.

Some call us mercenaries. Some call us assassins. We simply refer to ourselves as the hired guns. We have come to Fatlington because our patron has decided that there are high value targets that have been tracked to this town. As should be evident, our employer is not amused by the existance of these individuals, and we are allowed to take any actions that we need to end the life of our targets. However, it seems that this job won't be as easily pleasant as a cup of tea as we initially thought it was. So we are interested in seeing if any other members of the town would be interested in helping us. We can reward any individual that helps us in big ways. We have the resources and ability to make sure those who help us stay alive and become more powerful. Once we have taken our targets out we will be merrily on our way. Should that not happen, things will become... more complicated you might say. Our first target is Chaotix. Do not protect him if you know what is good for you.
