I really love the different and unique dungeons in Skyrim. I think these are even better than the ones in Morrowind. They're better designed, have some really fantastic traps, and have just the right smattering of unique loot as well. There are also some interesting 'stories' that are told about the dungeons with the placement of bodies, loot, random books, etc. Last night I was exploring a random barrow in the northwest, digging for extra Shout words and ended up on top of a mountain fighting one of the toughest monsters I've seen yet. After killing him, his loot included what I assume to be a unique light armor helmet that is actually a really freaky looking mask with 3 really strong enchantments on it. Finding something like that has just supercharged my desire to continue with the random explorations. My quest log is growing totally out of control because I always seem to be starting more quests than I am finishing. I'm at the point now where I'm just exploring random areas and doing whatever quests happen to be located in that area. It can often be days before I even turn a quest in, simply because I don't get back to the starting point very often. So much to do....

I was actually mentioning him earlier on.
Hasn't even happened once, even when fighting upon a side of a cliff against an undefeatable foe, who was luckily defeated as his fireballs smashed into the side of the cliff opposed to me.
So they get easier. Went from spamming health pots to kill a dragon to not even having to use one at all. But then evil undefeatable foe appeared out of no where... (which I ended up cliff jumping to defeat when one of my power attacks knocked him off)

On the plus side, I managed to get hold of something to bring down Dragons. At the moment, everytime I see a dragon, they run away from me, so this is very helpful.

Have you found any quests or books that mention him? I'm curious as to whether there's some story behind his presence there, or whether he's really just a random unique dungeon boss.

Even with my own OP magic, he was a major pain. I died about 3-4 times as well. His health pool is just unbelievably large. I ended up beating him by summoning a Frost Atronach, which he seemed to have difficulty killing. I just kept hammering away at him and chugging mana potions until he finally died.

I have, but a more tedious link. You know his name and the name of the item, but a bunch of certain NPC's keep mentioning it, somewhat out of context... Going to check the Wiki.

    After checking Wiki:
Alright, those NPC's were mentioning him with good reason, however, there is more than one Undefeatable Foe it seems, there are 8. So you might not have fought the one I did.

I fought the one North-East of Whiterun, in the Mountain.

Yeah, I was a lot lower level at the time, but his fire/frost blasts used to hit me for 33% of my HP. Then he always put up a barrier to block my melee attacks and zoomed across the area. So it was effectively impossible for me to defeat him. I only ended up defeating him when one of my powerattacks on my 8th try knock him off a cliff, and then his spells simply hit the side of the cliff, and he was unable to zoom away, and it still took like 5 minutes of whacking away none-stop to kill him.

Yep, different ones then. Mine was west of Solitude. 8 sounds like the proper number to drop complete sets of both light and heavy armor, with each one holding one piece.

They are simply 8 different masks with different stats. Mine had Lockpick, Archery, and Alchemy 20%. Another one apparently at end of Winter College has +100 Magicka. There is even one in *spoiler* which surprised me... as you need the main questline to get there.

Does anyone know what the red Xs on the game map are? One of them looks to be at bout the right spot for the guy I killed, but I can see at least 16 of them which is too many for just these dungeons.

Likewise. Geirmund's Hall. Lost Echo Cave. Etc all spring to mind.

Other thoughts. I'd have to agree that magic is OP. I'm probably going to re-roll as a Mage for my second play through. Although that may be a very long time, I've just got dragonbone armour for my melee char and I'm enjoying slaughtering things with him. =)

Can't wait for some UI mods!

    Haha, Geirmund's Hall... good times.

Enjoyed that one. Although I did expect something else :)

Not to mention that there isn't a whole lot in a shop just laying around that's worth stealing, unless you're an alchemist and you absolutely need those void salts or whatever. I used that exploit only once to see if it worked; on a bandit that was sitting down in a dungeon; and it does work.
Since I have 70+ Sneak, there isn't really any need for the Holy Bucket exploit for me. If I do get caught, I just bribe my way out thanks to my allegiance to the Thieves Guild. There isn't any need to do it on enemies either, since I have x30 Sneak Attack damage with my daggers.

Only get on the PC. Graphics = better. Mods can be made and applied. Plus if you want Xbox controls, get an Xbox attachment for your PC.

As Psychonaut said, get one of those PC compatible xbox 360 controllers. They're easy to set up and use. Most games where you're likely to use one have control pre-sets built in and will default to the controller provided it's turned on when you launch the game, and default back to keyboard and mouse as soon as you turn the controller off. The game will control identically to the xbox version.
