Thread: Gallic beggars

    Default Gallic beggars

I thought this was just so ludicrously funny I would put it up. Just another one of those times when the AI does something you have to laugh out loud at.

Man, they must be in pretty dire straits..

Pretty common. Don't delude yourself into thinking they won't attack though. I've agreed to the second of your pictures before only to have them attack during the same turn.

    AI design fail.
    Completed Campaigns:
    Macedonia EB 0.81 / Saby'n EB 1.1
    Qart'Hadarst EB 1.2 / Hai EB 1.2
    Current Campiagns:
    Getai/Sauromatae/Baktria
donated by Brennus for attention to detail.

Well the first one is a classical case of: "you've got a nice army base here, we wouldn't want anything to happen to it." The second one is funny tho(eventho i had that one a few times now)
"Who fights can lose, who doesn't fight has already lost."
    - Pyrrhus of Epirus

"Durch diese hohle Gasse muss er kommen..."
    - Leonidas of Sparta

"People called Romanes they go the House"
    - Alaric the Visigoth

The second one is actually logical when you think about it. "Unless you agree not to attack us, we'll attack you first." It's a show of strength to deter you from invading their territory, by threatening to invade yours.

But they never follow through on it, which does make it pointless.

As I understand it, the "accept or we'll attack"-option represents intimidation: it only works if you're stronger, otherwise the recipient will get angry. "Please do not attack" is the opposite: the player or A.I. indicating that they're intimidated. So yes, this message is contradictory, since the A.I.'s pleading and trying to intimidate you at the same time.

The diplomatic A.I. is terrible anyway: it seems to have only a vague idea what's going on at the strategic map. I've heard that a CA developer admitted the strategic A.I. and diplomatic A.I. do not communicate properly, which would explain why the A.I. sometimes agrees to peace or threatens to attack, and then just goes on doing what it did on the campaign map. However, I haven't seen the message were this was admitted, and maybe it's just caused by the A.I.'s usual incompetence.

And then you can go back home with your piece of parchment, proclaiming "peace for our time" when they agree to your proposal. ;)
