I like to do it all! Not possible this time around I think. The strongest part of the character develops through perks, and you only get so many.

Like Oblivion it's easy to run into the "leveling problem"; too many levels and not a playable selection of skills. I am trying to keep focused on a fairly narrow range of skills that help me kill stuff - at least until the main quest is over.

All classes appear to have abilities that are very powerful, so I think Bethesda did a good job on balance.

I tend to roleplay at first and then if i actually keep a character for long enough i do everything else. most of my time is just spent exploring and stockpiling my house.

I usually tend to restart at around 20-25.

havent played in a week and a half the bugs are unbearable and make me want to smash my xbox absolutely horrendous and makes me hate bethesda and ive loved the gameplay of every game they have ever produed. i even loved oblivion. but i find it so disrespectful to not do enough testing to fix this insane amount of bugs i am quickly beginning to hate the game.

    Me too.

I'll probably stick with one character and see how far I get. If I finish the game or take the character as far as is fun, I might try another, but usually just getting through the game even once is enough for me as it takes me so long to do so. In Oblivion I went heavy mage with almost no weapon skills. This time I'm going to try something like a battle mage, but hand to hand combat is too stressful (because I suck at it). Maybe practice will improve my skills. Like with Oblivion, I've taken the main quest a few missions in, but there are so many distractions, it is hard to decide which way to go.

You're probably going to hate me now, but after 23 hours of gameplay (PC version), I encountered only one bug (just couldn't move my character at a certain moment, a reload of a previous save solved it).

People always complain about how bugged the Bethesda games are, but, apart for some minor things, I never encountered game breaking bugs in Oblivion and Morrowind. Guess I'm just lucky.

I like being wealthy, having many houses and being able to bring in all kinds of loot, trophees and "old armour". I crafter my entire Elven armor myself and allthough I'll change it for better armor later on, I won't sell it. I'll keep it as a souvenir. Once I'm old, I'll be able to sit in front of my fireplace and look at all my old armour sets and tell stories to my grandchildren. "I was using that bow and wearing that helmet when I defeated blahblahblah".

At level 19 now. Archery + sneaking rocks.

So many distractions. It's hard to finish a quest in this game, certainly so if you need to walk some distance before you get there. I really should learn how to say "no, not now" to people. It's starting to feel like work, where you need to prioritize your tasks, else nothing gets done. There's even a quest where the quest giver sends mercenaries after you if you don't finish the quest fast enough

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
It's a quest given to you by a woman in Shor's Stone, near Riften. She asks you to deliver something to her father. I first did some other things and afterwards, three thugs showed up. Turned out they were sent by the woman who gave me the quest (which I had completely forgotten about, since it was a minor one), to make sure I understand I need to make the delivery. So far for escaping in a computer game to forget about whining unsatisfied customers

Reinvent the British and you get a global finance center, edible food and better service. Reinvent the French and you may just get more Germans.

I try to heed the lyrics of Bilbo's "The Walking Song" from Lord of the Rings:

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate.
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.

Alas, too often I fail at the "pass them by today" part. But it is fun none-the-less.

Hi all, got the game for christmas and I am a Nord fighter/mage at level 15. My biggest problem is my intense curiousity. I literally cannot complete a quest because I keep getting distracted whenver i see a new place to explore on my map. Add to that my curious kidnapping
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

to the far side of the world and I have spent entire days without even leveling up or even fighting.

Only had a few bugs so far, nothing game breaking, although one has ruined a sidequest by teleporting an NPC into the sky...

I like to put myself in the game and make decisions as I'm really there. I didn't join the thieves guild or the Dark Brotherhood because I feel sort of bad if I steal stuff or murder someone even though it's not real life.

I'm the opposite, I don't do much exploring because I hate getting distracted in the middle of quests.

    The video is great!

Pretty much done with the main quest now. I doubt I'll play it again...maybe a new patch or the release of the Construction Set will make it worthwhile. Controls on PC are borked imho; spells and attacks sometimes go MIA and you just stand getting slaughtered (no, not stunned which would be a valid game mechanic); minor things abound but my pet: why not put some indication of where to go in the quest completion box? Its nice that usually it tells you WHO to see, but never WHERE you might find them.

Some problems are just me. I have never found a way back to the Cistern, so the Thief questline is kinda stuck :p

    Good idea, poor execution.

There's an entrance to the Thieves Guild behind the Temple of Mara. Otherwise you can get in the way you originally did, through the Ratway.

    Hello,

We got SkyBoost that claims to be relieving the CPU-bound bottlenecks that still get updated. It promises FPS gains in areas especially like Markath.

A lot of praises for SkyBoost -simply better than TESVAL- which I can confirm myself too. SkyBoost r4 (FPU version for AMD, SSE2 for Intel) indeed relieves your system at a noticable level.

    Try it.

I am not getting any FPS drops while viewing Whiterun from Dragonreach. I have a Skyrim packed full of HD textures with .ini tweaks as well as AA 4x and AF 16x on 1680x1050 resolution.

Thank you Craterus I found the entrance behind temple of Mara :)

LEN, SkyBoost is wonderful! No more standing and getting snuffed while trying to do things on-the-fly. Thank you for another very useful link :) Again, the player community is making a Bethesda release "user friendly".

If you select a quest it will place a nav point where you need to go on the map that you can also see on the compass. Is this what you're looking for?

I'm playing the PC version, BTW.

To add more into this, when you bring up [L]ocal map while you are viewing the global [M]ap, you can even spot the exact NPC you are supposed to interact for the accomplishment and it's not fixed, it's real-time.

I installed Skyboost and I'm seeing a little improvement. I have all settings maxed and the fps when viewing Whiterun from Dragonreach improved from 14 fps to 19. I know that is still rather low, but the movement of people did smooth out much better with that 5 fps increase.

I'm aware the icon comes up when doing the quest, but it does not seem to appear for turn-ins...

Hmm, I may be missing the obvious... do I have the quest selected when looking at completion? I'll have to check!

I can't believe that, after two and a half months of owning this game, I'm still enjoying it and discovering new locations and events even without the ability to download mods and such; I received AC:Revelations and Arkham City for Christmas, but once finished they were resigned to the shelf as Skyrim went back into the 360 for the umpteenth time.

I have severe roleplaying syndrome coupled with restart-itis and alt-itis, so I'm currently packing a character for each race; at the moment, I'm playing as an Argonian Bard called Hits-High-Notes (spot the joke, anyone?). He's mainly specialising in Light Armor, Illusion and Speech, carries a lute everywhere, likes hanging around in taverns pestering people. He's a refreshing change of pace from my other characters, at any rate.

Has anyone ever had to explain Skyrim to the uninitiated? I was in the plains around Whiterun, looting Mammoth Cheese, when a comment from my other half comes up about where the stuff comes from. I muse that the giants must milk the mammoths themselves, whereby we then get into a debate about how it's not possible for giants to do that, because they're clearly too stupid to do so, the proof of which being that they scratch their heads, which obviously makes them unintelligent! I mean, let's ignore the fact they make their own clothing and weaponry and they're also running their own airlines...

They are way past the airline stage. As I was wandering the plains west of Whiterun, I saw a mammoth shoot 50 feet straight up into the air and then float back down again as some giants watched. Clearly the giants are in the early stages of their space program.
