There seems to be this line of thinking in Africa that the Chinamen is somehow more agreeable to do buisness with becuase there are no pictures in the schoolbooks of him supressing AfricaThey are in it for their future, not ours; we are in with them for our future. We are real to them, and we have a platform to talk.
In 50 years, when China has east Africa over a barrel I will enjoy saying "I told you so"
Of course the charties he mentiones are no better and often times worse.
There, but for the grace of God, goes John Bradford
My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.
I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation.
What he means is that there is mutual benifit.
I think I missed the part where he switched from sarcasm to actual commentary. Is the author an African?

There's mutual benefit in the arrangement between Shell and the government of Nigeria as well. Hasn't worked out well for the locals, though.
I agree that we shouldn't patronize African countries and ditch the default assumption that these people need our help. That they think dealing with Chinese is preferable seems to be partly driven by spite (to the west) and is in any case naive.
How very generous of you to not patronise them
China is only being friends with Africa because they want to eat their endangered species and make magic prostate dust out of the bones.
Baby Quit Your Cryin' Put Your Clown Britches On!!!
I'm generally against hunting endangered species and against civilian ownership of weapons. That said, it's been my lifelong dream to get an RPG-3, board a plane to Africa and go rhino hunting. I imagine that would spoil the meat, but you could still salvage the horn, right?
EDIT: stupid me. It would be better to get the RPG after arrival.
