I don't know Frags, I saw some gameplay videos and I wasn't impressed. AI seemed really bad, and with the powers they give you, it is almost as bad as using 3rd person to cheat. Also, I despise the art style. I don't think I will be buying this one, as it seems too much like a cheap reinvention of a modern game style using some concepts from early stealth games.

I am pretty much ignoring this until it's out and I have some idea whether it lives up to its promise or not. It's a very ambitious game and in this day and age that worries me. Cost, technology, time and demands on developer skill all conspire to make this style of game very difficult to produce successfully. I certainly hope that they pull it off.

Yup, I predicted that from the first time I saw gameplay footage. The only people I think who will like this are those so desperate for some 'old-school stealth' that they fool themselves into ignoring its faults.

But what I can see from gameplay videos makes me think that the AI will be beyond lousy, the gameplay absurdly unrealistic (even forgetting the super-powers thing, you being able to see a meter of how suspicious an enemy is over the heads, etc), lousy voice acting, naive gameplay, etc. This looks like it will make Bioshock look like a masterpiece.

You assume, to assume makes an ass out of u and me. It's a highly ambitious project set in a very interesting setting. If it turns out bad I will still thank them on my knees for trying. But I have this feeling this will not be bad at all, just a hunch. This is exactly the type of game I really miss.

The awesome folks at Eurogamer aren't easy to impress and they are really impressed, if they are putting it right up there Thief, Deus-Ex and System Shock in a preview you just know it's going to be good.

Now that we are talking about good, why aren't you playing the pc-version of Dark Souls as we speak? Easily the most hardcore and atmospheric game since Thief it's fantastic

No dosh I am afraid. I got it on my list of games to try in the future. I'll be honest though, from the vids I saw, it looks too consoley for me.

Oh noey, it's exactly what pc-gamers have been missing, ah non-dumbed down rpg that explains absolutely nothing. Just because there is nothing like it on the pc doesn't mean it's consoley, there isn't anything like it on the consoles either. It's considered a masterpiece for a reason, it is one. It's dark, serious and absolutely terrifying

I don't know, maybe I just gotta play it to see what you mean, but I am not sure. The graphics look so absurdly fantastic that I really cannot see myself being immersed in the atmosphere of the game. I'm a realism whore Frags. That is what I love about Thief and DX so much. They feel so gritty and real. One is fantasy and one is scifi, but they both present their worlds in such a realistic manner, that it doesn't take much of a stretch to imagine them being real. The whole massively exagerated weapons and everything that consoles gamers love so much really turns me off to games.

If you don't like fantasy settings it probably isn't for you, it has a real sense of place though so it's realistic by it's own rules. Just like Thief I might add.

It is not that it is a fantasy setting. It is how absurdly fantastical it looks. It is the reason I loved LoTR but hated Harry Potter, and the reason I loved Thief but hated PoP. I think a fantasy game needs to be presented in a realistic way. They need to make you feel like the fantasy is reality, otherwise it is not as immersive. When you have 400lb swords, it is hard to take it seriously. I don't know if what I just said makes sense or not, but that is the best way I could find to say it.

The combat is really realistic actually, big swords require two hands, it's no Monster Hunter with it's huge weapons. Everything has real weight and momentum, my only complaint is arrows going in a straight line. As for the gameworld, it's entirely believable and very very immersive. It's full of little touches that draw you in and the architecture of the world is full of surprises. Pure class. It should be a no-brainer for a Thief-fan

Dark Souls is a great game and it's pretty realistic in a fantasy sense. Even basic enemies can kill you just as easily as you can kill them, unlike other games where you're somehow a god amongst men and can take 10x the amount of damage as everyone else. Your ability to replenish health is limited and if you die you have to start again from the last checkpoint, which are few and far between. The game forces to take each fight seriously, just like you would in real life.

Thief fanboy to Thief fanboy, can't go wrong with it. Word of advice, the game takes killing you very seriously, just about everything can and will kill you if you get sloppy. Almost every boss is a nightmare to beat, if a difficult boss kills you 10 times you are pretty good at the game. Don't let the game's disregard for your mental wellbeing put you off, it's all very rewarding once you 'get' it

lol, sounds good. I love when a game is a challenge, and even more so when it is in a realistic way. (if you ever play my Deus Ex or M&B mods, you will see that exactly) I doubted you when you suggested No One Lives Forever and it ended up being one of my favorite games, so I'll take your word on this and get it some time. I'll let you know what I think of it when I do get it.

You won't regret it. Oh and those people who say the game is hard but fair, they are lying. Dark Souls takes sadistic pleassure in lollingly killing you in cheap ways. You will know what's comming next time, but the first time you will die.

    Step away from that mirror.

It's getting rave reviews everywhere, finally an ambitious title that gets most right is the common consensus. Sometimes I really don't understand you Vukkie this is exactly the type of gaming that I have been missing.

lol, first of all, it is made by Harvey Smith. While he may have done good work on DX, I cannot forgive him for Bioshock. Not only that, but recently his games seem less focused on good storytelling and gameplay and more focused on pushing his world-view (one I find abhorrent).
Second of all, the setting looks absurd. A game like that needs to be immersive to be enjoyable, and I don't see how it would be possible to immerse yourself into a world that absurd.
Third of all, from what I heard it has back voice-acting. Graphics cannot stand the test of time, but audio can. If you want to make a classic, you need memorable audio. From what I heard of it, it sounded almost as bad as Oblivion.
Fourth of all, it looks like it plays too much like a console game.

EDIT: I'm afraid that there will not be another truly great game till Vuk gets his own studio. :P

Vuk you are own your worst enemy in when it comes to apreciating any creative thinking. Give it a chance it isn't like they didn't try to make something absolutely awesome from what I read. You would shame the Fallout community in saying naynaynaynay. Louder. Someone finally tries to make something truly ambitious (so indeed not Bioshock) and you curl up in a corner
