Thread: The House of Origin [Concluded]

Default Re: The House of Origin [IN PLAY]

It's far more likely that one starting pair consists of two mafia, and that two other starting pairs consist of one mafia and one townie each.
    The host's wording seems unambiguous.

Without needing any encouragement, my retinue descended into another debate. A fight soon broke out between two small factions, one led against TinCow, the other being TinCow and his supporters. He was charged with slaying upstanding members of the royal guard, which he did not deny. However he implied that their demise was necessary and good, as they were the ones at fault. It didn't take long for the fight to escalate into a fist fight. A few tried to pull the parties apart, but sadly, more seemed incited and jumped into the fray. By the time I intervened with the guard, it seemed that Kagemusha had unfortunately received a hopefully inadvertent knife to his left eye, embedding itself quite deep into his skull. What a pity. Alas, not that there's much to do about it now. I decided to wrap this up now before we had any further accidents.

"Very well, my uh, stalwart supporters! What have we discovered? Who is to receive divine punishment?"

It seemed the aggressor party against TinCow had won out support, and he was shoved in front of me. He didn't seem to resist by this point.

"TinCow, for the crime of homicide against your royal comrades, I hereby sentence you to death," I proclaimed in my "official" voice. I drew my blade, and finally executed a perfect slice across a neck, sending TinCow's head tumbling down to the floor. I did not show it, but I secretly puffed with pride at my first truly successful execution. Surely, I was well on my way now!

"Now, remember!" I turned to the crowd. "Our first priority is to find an exit, not kill each other! We can do that when we get back to the palace!"

    Tally:

    TinCow
4 (Andres, Chaotix, Double A, Ishmael)
Jolt 3 (Jarema, GH, Captain Blackadder)
    Montmorency 2 (Lazy McCrow, TinCow)
    White eyes 1 (Edse)
    Edse 1 (White Eyes)
    Lazy McCrow 1 (Makrell)
    Ishmael 1 (Lazy McCrow)
    Jarema 1 (Visorslash)
    Autolycus 1 (Montmorency)
    GH 1 (ATPG)

    Abstain (Buddhafish, Riedquat)

    Yes, very unambiguous.

The mafia may be infiltrated into these starting groups, or may be in their own groups (plural).

I suggest you start looking elsewhere for scum other than by trying to clear or incriminate people simply on the basis of participation in basic townie night actions. The rules are such that you cannot possibly do more than speculate about what the setup is or is not. My personal opinion is that both scenarios are likely true, and that there's a starting duo of mafia with the other two as individuals with townie partners. Such a setup is a bit more devious and of the kind that I would expect from 'khaan.

    Also, kill/lynch Monty.

"The" Mafia, not "each mafioso. Why do you two believe that the host would say something unambiguous in the rules and contravene it without any notice?

I will accept any Mafia kill of me with open arms. I am not protected. Viggers would do best to look elsewhere.

You know he did not mean an either/or situation, and you know he was being ambiguous. Stop being so literal about the wording and grammatical structuring of the statement, unless you're going to argue that the following excerpt from the rules:

You must unvote:Askthepizzaguy in order to recant the previous vote.
means that unless you "unvote:Askthepizzaguy", your unvote is not counted.

I see no reason why they should be approached in the same way. The setup of a game is a very particular thing. The rules of voting in the Game of Mafia are generalizable, and far less strict. They are loose, informal, and stylistically variable.

If a host, in the setup paragraph, presents a THIS or THAT clause, I'm going to take his word for it.

Because your stubborn-as-a-mule attitude thinks all four of them must have been in that group?

It was time for action. Time to prove myself! I held my trusty morningstar in my hands, gazing upon its lustrous sheen. I can’t believe I hadn’t done this yet! Just having the weapon in my hands, it felt like nothing I’d experienced. I had power! This is amazing! I feel incredible! Yes! Yes! Yes! I can win! I’m the greatest! I. CAN. DO. THIS! I turned the corner of the hallway to find my prey, Montmorency, accompanied by two fellows, with a fourth walking mechanically at the end of the hall. They were no match for me! Raising my weapon high, I screamed with the fury of my transcendence as I rushed my target. The two men near me split apart and scattered in my terrible wake. Alarm overtook Montmorency’s face as he withdrew a sword from its sheath. I closed in and swung the mace overhand with force that would shatter the palace walls… and was stunned as Montmorency deftly stepped to the side and sliced my right hand, causing me to drop my morningstar. Montmorency held his blade in a duelist’s pose, the point just inches from my neck. I swore. This was impossible! Had I… been defeated?

“This is impossible!” I screamed in a tone a few pitches higher than I’d intended, as I ran back down the hall, the two fellows snickering at me as I fled for my life.

There he was. Another blasphemer. I withdrew my knife. Chaotix was sitting in the middle of the great forum, on the dais itself, reserved for the priests themselves! He was cross legged, with his eyes closed. I stepped quietly to the dais and pulled up short. I hesitated. Chaotix was still apparently unaware of my presence. Was it proper to step onto it even if to remove someone else? I looked at the knife in my hand. Blast its curvature, this wouldn’t even be proper for throwing.

“Forgive me,” I whispered in prayer.

“I do,” Chaotix spoke back, the smallest of smiles on his face. My eyes went wide. He dared to pretend to be a god! In a rage, I leaped upon the dais, and ran the knife into his throat, and began to haul his flailing body off the dais. I tossed it upon the ground and proceeded to mutilate it beyond recognition. Nobody would recognize this body for a burial, as he deserved for his crimes.

“It’s good to be out doing something,” I said to Hashel. “Hopefully we can head off any more bloodshed.” The emperor had just dismissed us, and we already had a plan together; even if some didn’t want it, we were going to help save lives, rather than cause further mayhem. Hashel didn’t answer me, but kept walking. “Hashel?” I asked. He was usually quite talkative, so his silence was odd. He stopped, and slowly turned his head to me. I gasped.

His eyes had become a violent shade of deep red, and blood was seeping down his face from a wound that stretched across it. He opened his mouth to say something, and a swarm of bees came spewing forth. They swarmed around me, and in a panic, I took flight down the hallway away from the monster that Hashel had become. Still, the swarm followed me, until I found I had taken a wrong turn, and ran into a dead end. I cowered and sat down, putting my head into my knees, trying to pretend the swarm wasn’t there. Naturally, the bees instead descended upon me, landing all over me, into my hair, across my arms and legs. Yet, they did not sting. They walked across me like a second, barbed skin, but no harm came to me.

Of course… I lifted my head, and more of the insects descended upon my face. It was my fear that was disabling me. It was not the insects, nothing else. Without warning, their buzzing grew louder, and they flew from me, and reformed their swarm in front of me. They moved out, slowly, as though inviting me to follow. I followed, renewed in my confidence. It was as though I was reborn! What a glorious feeling! I followed the swarm back to the camp, which currently was deserted. It hovered over where my belongings lay.

“Yes, yes…” I whispered. “It’s so logical, how did I never see it!” I rummaged through my belongings and found my treasured bear pelt, a trophy from a hunt with the emperor himself. I threw it across my shoulders, the maw of the slain beast resting upon my head. I grabbed my knife. The hunt, the glorious hunt was renewed! I was suddenly aware of how silent it was. The swarm, my guide, had vanished. It was no trouble. They had shown me the path, shown me how to overcome my fear. I took off at a sprint down the nearest hallway, reveling in the exuberance of fearlessness. I turned a corner and ran straight into Riedquat, who was limping along. We tumbled to the ground in a heap. Riedquat immediately began to scramble away from me. Was this… fear? I must show him to overcome it! As the swarm did for me! I scrambled to my feet as well, and lunged at him, bringing my knife to bear. It slashed his forearm as I tumbled into him again.

How bizarre. He didn’t seem to come to the revelation! Instead, he kept screaming like he was in pain! It hadn’t been enough, clearly. I brought my knife into his gut and twisted it. Still he screamed! I brought it down into his chest. His neck. I gashed his face. Finally. Silence. His face was quite still, beautifully decorated with crimson. He finally understood the absence of fear. I picked myself up. My bear pelt had fallen off during the scrum. Well, at least it hadn’t gotten blood on it. I threw it around my shoulders once more and stalked off to see if I couldn’t find anyone else to teach the glory of fearlessness…

I found myself in an old library. It was quite magnificent. Countless texts lining the walls, in remarkable condition. I was hoping I could find some insight into what that large, vacant forum was used for. I don’t know why it was bugging me so much. Perhaps it was just curiosity. Either way, I unfolded a well preserved scroll. I began to read from the top, but the words were… fuzzy. My eyesight was beginning to blur, until finally, a single word stood out.

    Kill.

Of course! How could I have missed it! The forum wasn’t important. It was completely irrelevant. All that mattered was to feel the rush, the adrenaline. To feel the joy that it was to…

    Kill.

I threw the scroll the ground. Yes, he was nearby. I could practically feel his pulse beating with my own. I darted out the library as fast as I could, withdrawing my new sword. I wheeled around, and found Makrell, relaxing by a large fountain. Three armed men with swords stood nearby. Security? That didn’t matter. They would not be able to stop it…

    Kill.

I grinned at the three, who stepped forth, swords drawn. I sprinted straight at them, mine drawn as well. The first sliced high, but I ducked underneath. A second struck low, but I tumbled over it, avoiding it as well. The third was simply shocked that I’d maneuvered my way past so easily. Makrell stood before me in amazement. Nothing could halt it now…

    Kill.

I sprinted at Makrell and lanced my sword straight into his chest as I ran past, the point crunching through a rib and into vital organs. I let the blade go and continued my sprint past, finally wheeling around to watch as Makrell choked and died on the metal in his midsection, bleeding out on the floor. The three guards recovered their composure and began to chase, but they would never catch me. I was on a high of adrenaline, reveling the thrill, the wonderment, of what it was to…

    Kill.

This place would never cease to amaze me. I get the feeling we could explore it for decades and still find new surprises. I had discovered a strange cavern that ran out of the usual marble pathways. The marble ended and became gentle dirt. There was a large hole in the cavern, but it was incredibly high up. Light peaked through and seemed to angle in impossible ways, lighting the whole cavern. In the middle, a stream ran through from the wall and traversed the entire length before going underground, causing a beautiful selection of flora to have flourished in the middle. I was examining a gorgeous rose when I heard a hissing from behind me. I turned on a heel, and found a man at the entrance, armed with a pair of curved daggers. He wasted no time, sprinting at me. I startled backwards, and lost my balance as my foot stepped on the edge of the stream. I tumbled backwards as he tackled me, the two of us tumbling into the stream. It wasn’t deep, but my attacker was on top, and brought his knives to bear, slashing into my chest. The water was ice cold on my wounds, to the point it felt like agonizing fire. I felt the weight lift off me as my attacker dragged himself back to land. I straggled myself to the edge, gasping both for the lack of air and the agony in my chest. He stood, dripping, rage in his face.

Edse, in the name of the true divine,” he paused for a moment, catching his own breath. “Die!” He brought the knives down onto my shoulder and neck, and the world went dark…

“Are you sure about this?” Heshin asked me. “You’re certain about this?”

“Of course, my dear Heshin,” I responded. “I do not act without great certainty. We were quite successful last time, were we not?” Heshin nodded. We were looking to reach the old library, on a hunch I had. Sure enough, when we arrived, we found White Eyes pouring over an old scroll. He seemed so engrossed in his work that he did not notice us arrive. I unsheathed my sword, giving off an illustrious ringing noise as it was withdrawn from its holding. White Eyes finally looked up at us in surprise.

“Can I help you, gentlemen?” He asked.

“Yes, you can, White Eyes,” I commanded. “You may sit still, and submit to righteous judgment,” I said, pointing my sword at him. His eyes widened.

“But, my good sirs, I have done nothing wrong! I have been at my work here, trying to discover the mysteries of this incredible place, nothing more!” Heshin looked at me, somewhat questioningly, but he still withdrew his own sword.

“I believe that you are lying. Now, do you accept your judgment, or must we force it upon you?”

White Eyes didn’t respond, instead starting to walk backwards. He tripped over a manuscript on the ground and fell on his back. I stepped forward up to the panicked man. “In his name, I condemn you, White Eyes, for the crime of slaughter!” White Eyes closed his eyes as I ran him through with my blade, following it with a decisive slice upon his neck, rending his head to the floor. Heshin sheathed his sword, clearly looking troubled.

“Do not worry, dear Heshin,” I said, putting a hand on his shoulder. “We fight with just cause. The embrace of the divine will not let us err.”

May the gods help us all... I arrived back and even more members of the retinue had seemingly vanished. Our numbers were dwindling fast. There were many who confirmed that we did indeed have assassins in our midst that were the cause of it, and not just people getting lost in the labyrinth. With a sigh, I silently raised my hand to indicate another round of searching for the assassin. I sat down dejectedly next to the scribe and let the chaos ensue.

IT IS NOW DAY 4. WE WILL HAVE A PUBLIC REALIGNMENT FOR PARTNERS.

If you wish a new partner, you may submit a vote for a new one in thread in the format of Partner: Sigurd Fafnesbane. If that person accepts, you will become partners. If you do not make any vote of submission or accept a new offer, you will continue to be with whoever you will have no change from your current partnership arrangement. If a partner leaves you and you do not accept or vote to have a new one, you will have no partner. As a reminder, successful group actions at night will require four people in total, and at least one complete partnership working in concert to achieve 100% success.

THIS IS IN ADDITION TO VOTING FOR A LYNCH.

Double A failed to show for the protection on Makrell.

He sent out the confirmation 18 minutes after deadline. That is disgusting. I'm seriously thinking I should scrap my reveal-scheme and just push for his lynch.

And yes, all the revealers died - except our three. Wonderful.

Why the heck did 3rd-party go in for the kill against these guys? What was the point?

Also, the mixed setup idea is demolished - there were two Mafia kills today. Two pair kills shuts down the notion.

There are two Mafia pairs operational.

Wrong. There is one pair and one solo kill that correspond to the mafia (getting mad at defilers, etc.). This is the same as last night, so I think we can assume that one of the mafia died during Day or Night 1.

There's obviously also a serial killer (kill in red).

The other kills last night seem to be another serial killer or possibly cultist (the bees) and a pro-town vigilante.

I'll partner up with you if nobody with knowledge answers me within a certain amount of time.
