Because of the plural possessive " s' ", interpretation #1 should be preferred. Or do you think the final scum has more than two eyes, that "two" should be specifically used instead of both?1. The eyes of two crew members glinted.
2. The (?) two eyes of a single crew member glinted.
I would accept your interpretation if the line were something like, "A red glint flashed in [both of] a certain crewmember's eyes."
