Interesting. This is the first time slavery is represented in a TW game, right?

Which is hilarious, because Lakonia's inability to expand or campaign too far away was exactly due to the fear and instability at home of especially the Messenian Helots XDIn the game this is represented by a bonus Sparta receives that ensures slaves are less likely to revolt than those of other factions. These elements mean that while the odds are stacked against Sparta, they do have the advantage of a stable home territory and powerbase, however small, to work from.
Still Theban Hegemony changed most of that, sure there still were slaves in Lakonia, but nothing comparable to Classical Greece. Actually what happened in the game's timeframe was an emancipation of classes in Sparta, with distribution of land to increase the military manpower, in an attempt to compete with the superpowers of the time.
When that failed, Sparta experienced something of a renaissance, reverting to their Archaic love for arts and focusing on commerce. But whatcha gonna do: Spartans be stereotypes :P
mtw was such an epic game, makes me want to play it again. but it crashes on windows 7 :S
We do not sow.
