I know how hard it is to stop someone who is really determined, but the attempt must be made. Best if you try it personally IMO even if it ends up in a confrontation between the two of you. If he listens, great - help him through it. If he goes ahead and does something stupid anyway then at least you have tried, at least you have given him the option to choose a different path. If, after your attempt, you are still friends then you can help pick up the pieces after he has finished with his self-destruction. If you are not still friends then wash your hands of the pair of them.

Either way if the child is in any danger then your local social services should be informed.

Make it very, very obvious that he's going to hurt his daughter by hurting his ex. I mean, at best she can hope for is broken parents who shows that they love her and might even fix up their life for her sake. It's still way better than daddy getting a return ticket to jail for beating up mommy.

Children are very much driven by basic emotions. He might have a big enough reason that the forum agrees on it (although that's extremely unlikely). It'll still be daddy goes to prison for beating up mommy for the child.

And the odds for him to be together or even see his child again isn't exactly going to increase.

We are all aware that the senses can be deceived, the eyes fooled. But how can we be sure our senses are not being deceived at any particular time, or even all the time? Might I just be a brain in a tank somewhere, tricked all my life into believing in the events of this world by some insane computer? And does my life gain or lose meaning based on my reaction to such solipsism?

    Actually, no.

It will be "I have been bad and so I caused daddy to beat up mommy and he went to jail, if only I had been nicer he would still be here."
Still maintain that crying on the pitch should warrant a 3 match ban

Focus brother. Mommy and daddy are big kids, they can take care of themselves. Do as many posters above have suggested and see the girl get help.

If momma is so bad, get the police on her case. They don't want to deal with her either. If they see what you claim they will see, they will get child services to respond. Child services will respond much better with a little law enforcement motivating them.

I say do it yourself. Kidnap her, take her to the Netherlands equivalent of desert outside Las Vegas and shoot her twice in the head.

If you get away with it - great, if you don't - well, then you go to jail and your friend is free to take care of the child. Since you would kill and/or die for your friend, that the perfect solution.

Shrinks will still make money of the kid later on, but significantly less if "a bad person killed mommy" than if "daddy killed mommy and went to jail"...

Absolutily everything is known to the police and child-services. I got a better idea by now, I am going to punch him in the face and tell him to keep his cools.

No, the Balkan solution would be to bribe the judge(s). Duh!

This, on the other hand is 100% American, even Hollywood solution. We could sell this story easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Frags played by Mark Wahlberg, the friend's wife by Kate Winslet and his friend by Leonardo di Caprio. At the end, Frags makes a decision, kills the evil mom (in slow mo, to boot, no sound, just tense music) and drops his gun to the ground and which point the sound is back. He stares into the camera while we hear the police sirens in the background. When the judge sentences him, we see him and his friend look at each other and understand each other without anything needing to be said. Next shot is prison doors closing in on Frags, emphasizing his sacrifice and then we see his friend walking with his child towards the morning sun, symbolizing that the child will have freedom and a carefree childhood.

Call Spielberg, tell him you know a hot shot writer.

Scorcese maybe. Speilberg doesn't do "gritty" anymore. Perhaps Tarrentino if we can up the quirky factor.
