Joining army should never happen based on a whim, but after serious consideration.
The rank I am applying for is Platoon commander, which does not require a degree but good A-Level results or equivilent, which I have. Its minimum three years of service, I would hope to continue it obviously.
I have been thinking about the army since I was a kid, so I feel that this decision has been a long time coming and is my calling.

I'm not insane or unhealthy so I should be ok there

Lovely entry about France indeed. Thoroughly recommended. More refined, highly recommended amusement from Britain's 'finest' to be found everywhere, like the entry on the US:
I bet that one raises lots of laughs in Britain's army baracks.
'Oi lads, did you see that yank jump from the top floor!' 'Hahaha!' 'Hey, rewind that bit! Mate, I swear he was burning all the way to the ground!' 'Hahaha!'

    What of 'China':

Endless entertainment indeed, for those who are into this sort of stuff.

I could get wound up about the entry for France. Write a page long essay about the vulgarity of it all. A quicker way is to show the mental thoughtworld of people who think jokes about collaborating surrender monkeys and hairy women are fresh and amusing.
the funniest entries which i actually forgot about, are the ones about the navy, marines and RAF.

I have no idea how the British Army works in this sense, but I assume to be a platoon commander, one must be an officer. Does the British Army have a kind of school or course designed to make enlisted personnel platoon commanders? Or are you going in as an officer?

Sounds like you want to go for your AOSB. The Asbo is the new shiny combined regular and territorial commissioning board. First off, you'll need to have a little chat with your local army careers officer (likely a retired colonel or some-such). Then you'll get to go through (after all the paperwork - don't worry, there'll be more) to the briefing and, assuming you get though that, the main board itself. All a bit of a hoot really, just read up on it beforehand - show that you can do your homework. Oh, and be fit - that should be a given. (And if you're anything like me, be ready to kick the arse of the bar before heading off to the assault course in the morning)

What else, what else... Oh yes! Sandhurst itself. Can't help you there, I'm afraid. I'll know more in a year or so, but I suspect I'll be a bit busy then, what with all that lovely beasting to look forwards to.

Presumably you've looked at this site?
