    Default Jazz Club

We've had a fairly recent spate of music-related threads here in the Frontroom on such diverse subjects as rock and roll, hipp-hop and some fellow know as Leonard Sky-neird or some such peculiar name. After having perused and sometimes posted in the "What are you listening to now?" thread on various occassions, it sometimes seems as I'm the only jazz fan in the org. Is this true? Are there any other jazz afficianados here?

Oh, and by the way: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMBH...next=1&index=1

Jazz is a very interesting art form. I don't understand why a lot of people don't give it more of a listen, though there is alot of junk to sift through.

It was born, as with many other illegitimate children, in the cat houses of New Orleans. And, like Rock and Roll, was a slang term for coitus.

It is a very eclectic music styling, and there is likely some form of it most people would enjoy.

Sometimes it's very bluesy. Sometimes very spacey. Some times it's even very aggressive, and punches you in the gut.

Lets look at someone who covered alot of those grounds:

    Miles Davis.

Here he is, live in Montreux, back in 1973. I really like this period of his work. It's very atmospheric and minimalistic. It fits that time in music very well.

    Part 1

    Part 2

If you like this sound, check out his album ON the Corner

Now, we can look at a couple of examples from a decade before that, and we can see he's coming from a very different place:

    All Blues

    No Blues

So, what happened in between all of this?

Why one of the most important works in Jazz, with a title that has an explicative the means female dog.

    B______ Brew<----Wiki on it.

Here's some parts from a live concert in Copenhagen.

    Copenhagen pt. 2

    Copenhagen pt. 3

    Copenhagen pt.4--- start of Sanctuary

Anyway, that's a good start. He went on performing till just before his death in 1991. I'm not a big fan of fusion, though.

Edit: I though I should also put this up. It's from 1967, and features some very important musicians, Wayne Shorter
Herbie Hancock , Ron Carter , Tony Williams.

There are times I wish they’d just ban everything- baccy and beer, burgers and bangers, and all the rest- once and for all. Instead, they creep forward one apparently tiny step at a time. It’s like being executed with a bacon slicer.
