Colossus of Rhodes Rebuilt!

Both the I Ching and the Mayan Calendar predict that the world will end on December 21, 2012.

I could be wrong about this, but didn't the Mayan calender simply end at December 21, 2012? Nothing to do with the future, just an presumably unintended result of their time-measurement system (similar to computers of the past century being unable to go beyond 1999).

I just read a book 1491, America Before Columbus. Among many other things it discusses the various mayan calendars. the long count that 'ends' in 2012 is cyclical and does not in fact presage the ned of hte world.

What any of this has to do with the new Colossus of Rhodes, I dunno. We have a house in Cyprus, so when the thing is built we'll have to pop over and take a look.

its not just that, theres been a bunch of huge disasters around the world, one of Nostradamus' predictions was an Apocalypse around this time (but he made millions of inaccurate predictions, and even more completely wrong). Plus according to the acceleration of the development of our consciousness, we will be entering a new stage soon. We have a galactic consciousness at the moment. We've mapped our entire galaxy. Whats next? if there is a new stage.

what does this have to do with the Colossus? The oracle on Rhodos forbade the reconstruction of the Colossus, because a disaster would happen if it was ever reconstructed or re-erected.

And like its ancient namesake, the modern-day wonder will be dedicated to celebrating peace and built, at least in part, out of melted-down weapons from around the world.

How was the first Colossus dedicated to peace? I got the impression that, having beaten back the Macedonian invaders, the Rhodians build their wonder out of Macedonian arms simply to emphasize their victory and mock their defeated enemy...

yeah thats the impression I got as well. I think it was dedicated to that defiantly. These clowns are just saying that because they want to feel special. I have a special place in my heart reserved for these kinds of clowns >:/

as for the colossus, i don't really care if it is built or not. If it happens, it happens. the builders will pay the price (literally; how expensive is that thing anyway?)

and we can't say it will end (or not end) in 2012. the Maya calender's current ba'aktun cycle (known as the long count) indeed only ends in 2012, without an apocalypse. It does predict that it will be a time of fundamental change. I in fact suspect that people say its the end because traditional astrology seems to back up by that point (again, as pointed out here, like computers with 1999). Its also the time of some sort of alignment, god knows what, that I don't give a damn about.

Its like those who were predicting the world will end in 2000, or that the rapture would come in 1844....

as for the computer program: as Penn pointed out quite correctly, if they can really predict the future, (they did "predict" 9/11), then why was no one told about it until after the prediction? and even if they knew that it would happen for sure due to the computer, wouldn't the people be behaving in the pinnacle of evil, because by not telling they condemned 3000 to their deaths, knowing they would die?

lastly, as for the predictions that did come true: you know what they have in common? they never set a specific time for it happening, only an approximation.

so ends me diatribe.
