I still managed to conquer those provinces as Epeiros, even though they are tough as hell. Phalanxes pwn barbaroi.

In EB phalanxes "pwn" everything from the front. Ironically, only heavy cavalry is good against EB phalanxes, since they are the only ones who can get through all of those pikes without being instantly obliterated. Kind of funny and ahistorical, but nonetheless true.

Oh? I find Heavy Cavalry pushes back the phalanx rather than penetrating it.

As for these armies, one of them hangs around north of Pella, but I smashed it up with a combined arms army of Phalangites, Agraines, Thessalians and Cretan archers.... I wasn't arsed going around to another pass.....

I've managed to conquer 2 of those provinces before. It was hard as hell and i needed at least 2 legions - 1 to tie down the city and the other to fight the silver mega army. I was lucky and my army was not only somewhat experienced w/ excellent general but also had the super high ground. and some scorpions (I think that I killed the general, if not some of his best troops that way). Just my 2 cents on how i did it.

Just don't create a fort in their territory! If they attack that then you'll get a CTD next turn due to some problem with the script re-positioning the defending stack. I thought I had an easy run to the province's city by distracting Satres with a pointless fort seige against some low-level roustabouts while I went for the gold, but unfortunately no luck...

On the other hand, if you're playing as Romani and have a few decades to kill while waiting for the Marian reforms to kick it, Satres et al are a great way to "exercise/condense/entertain" your current lot of Polybian veterans, and might provide a welcome (and repeated) variation from whatever frontier skirmishes you might currently be fighting to maintain your empire...

I was hoping Satres was a historical character, kicking ass all over the map. It would be a nice variation from all the tales of the Celts being run over by everyone during this historical period.

Oh, well. I guess I can only rewrite history in EB...

I just hope to replace "Satres" with a bit historical legend.... as Celtic time - Robin Hood... kick the rich's a** and give the spoils to poor peasants of the Eleutheroi...
