Question So, what will happen to family trees?

I don't remember reading any information on this. Fellow Orgahs, post your ideas, opinions, and assumptions (facts, too, if available).

For Great Britain, ideally, there would be a number of families, those prominent within Parliament, for example Grenville and Fox, Pitt or Grey.

Thus far, I'm not aware of CA having released any info on how family trees will work this time around.

The things I'm particularly curious about:

1.) Can family members still appear on the battlefield? While I know some royals still led armies in this period, it was becoming increasingly rare.

2.) Can we marry princes/princesses into other factions' families, thus possibly gaining a claim to that nation's throne (and vice versa)?

3.) If our government is a monarchy (or constitutional monarchy), will we be able to designate who's next in line for the throne?

4.) How will families work if our faction has switched to a democratic/republican government?

Yeah, I was wondering how non-monarchy succession would work as well. I doubt the player will have direct control. I guess we might be worrying about the traits of our prime minister...and no way we'll see a politician leading an army in battle!

I hear that the Count of Montecristo is looking for a job in government.

I'll bet Napoleon will hire him.

Anyways, I hope family trees aren't destroyed. I love tracing my family tree down through the years to the present generation, carrying on cool legacies, etc. Even in a Republic, I sincerely hope they're kept, symbolizing prominent families and such. Of course, civil wars could screw families up entirely.... Gah, I'm so confused! CA, help! Jack Lusted, help!

I would like the idea that field commander and governor would be separated, have your precious royal bloodlines creating able administrators and hire/train generals for field armies (or remove rebel chance without general and give captains ability to improve in command or such traits trough education/experience)

I hope they dont destroy family trees either, but the thing you have to remember is unlike Rome or medieval, the game will only last for 100 years. So maybe unless your a monarchy, they might give each leader four years or 8 in power. I know that wasnt the way it went back then, but if they dont then you could end up with one leader till the end of the game almost.

Maybe we will get to pick the next leader who knows. I did love the family tree though. It was a classic idea.

This worries me, while this was not a probelm or as much in MTW2 it was a major problem in RTW. Where you'd just have leaders goin on and on....and on...and on.

I hope CA either places some pretty strict term limits or something similar. Though if you keep a monarchy I don't know how that would work, but if you assume 1 guy every 30 years, you'd only get 3 different leaders...which sounds...kinda boring......

I suppose if you were a monarchy. It would go something like this: You have a King/Queen. You might get only three in the whole game. (maybe less) You also have a Primeminister. Now the primeminister should last for four years to keep the game interesting. Each one has there own traits and all that stuff.

Republic.: I dont know much about republics as I have never lived under one. but lets assume CA have there thining caps on and decide to make it four years as well. (possibly 5 at a push)

On a side note, I've been poking around the forum site and I'm a bit gutted to find out that Africa will only be a trade theatre. Because not long after the game ends(96 years to be precise) Britain invades Zululand. And the fact that it wont be tied to historic events has left me a bit miffed. Hopefully a mod/expansion should sort this one out.

I guess it will be kind of like mtw then in that you can toss around various titles to various people as time goes on.

As for your side note, CA has stated multiple times that while some of there staff would like something more modern (as noted in interview that discussed 19th Century Total War game (1800-1900) they are nervous to get to modern do to the fact ww 2, and modern warfare have been highly redone and overdone.

I actually assume the expansion will cover the current time frame, the same way Kingdoms covered pretty much the time frame of MTW2 just more in depth.

I see your point. The thing is during WWI and WWII it wasnt really about taking over the world. ( Well it was for one man haha) But for the rest of the world it was about stopping him. There wasnt any real diplomacy untill the end of WWII and even that had to be done with the aid of a bomb. Plus it was all trench warfare mostly.

Having said that. I would be up for a futuristic/Post apocolyptic war. I can see how that might be fun.
But anyways thats getting off the subject....

I honestly dont mind how they do the tree as long as they kinda keep it in. It sounds like the player isnt going to be the leader anymore. It also sounds like they are borrowing heavily from EU3 which is good because it was a good game. If EU3 had incorporated turn based moves and real time battles, it would have made game of the century.
