Probably if I felt that my family was physically endangered or was being treated unfairly by the establishment. Im not sure. If enough people I knew were rebelling I would probably start too.

I'd hope to be able to emigrate before the trouble really started.

You're from Australia. I don't exactly know the situation in your country, but don't you imagine the Aborigines hate your government?

    1) Actually most Aborigines support the ALP government. They recently apologised for the then-governments taking away a generation of Aboriginals many decades ago.
    2) Why is the level of support amongst minorities relevant to Nationalism?

Independance - give us our own country. Sorry I wasn't clear at first.

It's nice to hear about the Aborigine relations in Australia, though.

Ah, now I understand. Aboriginals have a fair degree of autonomy in some areas of Australia (Usually the parts no one wants to buy...), but over the last two years the federal government has been intervening in their affairs far more than they had in the decade before that. But anyway, I understand your point now.

The Canadian government have been taking away Native lands supposedly guaranteed by treaty over the past century. Although it has largely stopped now, the reserves are only a portion of what they once were in terms of size. Recently, apologies and financial compensations have been given, but I'd still rather see that land given back. It will never happen.

    I hate "my" government.

Do you hate Drug Cartels? Do You believe that the Drug War is basically a failure? Do you think that if we Legalized the Cannabis market, that use rates would drop, we could put age limits on cannabis, tax it, and other wise regulate it? Join The ORG Marijuana Policy Project!

The removal of hope, both personal and friends and family... draconian laws and punishments for little offences, general civil liberty stuff...

I would hope if it ever came to it i am a young man without a family (as in wife and kids) as i would be far more willing to give my life in the effort to cure it. With a family i would be caught in two minds between just muddling through to give my kids a good life and a good start or giving my life in the hope that they are more free....

Honestly, as said earlier, it would depend on numerous factor, emotional, political, economical, etc.

Though I think I would be much more prone to rebel against a democracy than against an autoritarian or totalitarian regime.

For all I know, I might as well join a totalitarian regime, given the right circumstances/brainwashing/whatever. And if I were to rebel against one, it would probably more caused by personal issues (my familly being harmed) rather than to protect some generic human rights.
