AFAIK it does indeed mean that. And since you're talking about private baths, slaves, etc... You're making them look quite decadent/barbaric to me.

I will enlighten you on 1 point though... You seem to type an "o" every time you get an "e" sound (e.g.: enlighton/enlighten, charactors/characters).

Apart from that little thingy this AAR is looking quite perfect ;) Keep it up!

    Chapter Four. First blood

Lucius awoke to the sounds of a soldier. The march last night had wearied him apparently and he had slept soundly through the night.

"My lord, they are coming!" The soldier exclaimed, "They're coming with a huge force!"

Lucius bolted straight out of his makeshift bed, and looked around with his sleepy eyes, thinking how there was no time for a bath. Unfortunately, he thought.

"Assemble the men, I want all of them ready by the time I'm out of this tent!" Lucius yelled at the soldier as he was putting on his sandals. "Hurry the hell up! What in the world are you waiting for!?"

"Yes lord." Said the young soldier as he dashed out of the room.

What in the world is going on, Lucius thought, how did they Eporites know where we landed, and how did they manage to summon a force to face us already. No time to panic, he thought to himself. Roman discipline will save the day.

He stepped out of his tent and his horse was waiting for him already. All of his bodyguards were in their full plethora of armor and weapons. He gazed about at the camp and watched his soldiers scrambling to get ready for battle. His world seemed to get smaller as he focused on them...

"Sir, we are ready to go." Flavius said.

The words startled him and he nodded quickly and got on his horse.

"Flavius, stay back and supervise the burning of the camp. If something were to happen today, I wouldn't want those bastards to eat our bread and drink out wine."

"Yes sir, will do." Flavius answered obediently.

The legion left the campsite and entered a valley, it was quite the clearing, a surprise to Lucius who thought they would be fighting a forest battle. He assembled his men into 2 lines, with him and his bodyguard in between, along with the first cohort. On the side of the 2 lines he set up the Catapulta along with more legionaries to keep it safe.

The army was set up just in time, for the Eporites wasted no times for pre-battle negotiations. Alexandros Aiakides wanted to show the Romans who they were dealing with and what they should expect. No mercy, and no quarter.

"MEN! I do not have time for many words, nor do you need them. Stay in your lines, defend your belly, and help the man to your right and left, if you are brave, and if the Gods don't think your worthy enough to die today, then we will WIN! ROMA VICTRIX! "Lucius said as he watched the Eporite force close in....

"ROMA VICTRIX!" The legionaries shouted wholeheartedly.

What happened next was a mess. Enemy skirmishers charged and threw their javelins at the line. Given orders of fire at will, the legionaries threw back. After the skirmishers ran out of javelins they retreated behind the pezhetairoi. With the lines fully engaged, Lucius watched for any weak spots. The enemy had more calvary so he dare not venture out in the open until they were engaged. He watched his left flank become open to attack and ordered a cohort of the second line to protect it. Alexandros knew battle well, and sent elite skirmishers to flank the Romans while he distracted their front lines with phalanxes.

Lucius seeing the breakdown of his left flack orders his first cohort to engage there, he also moved nearer to inspire the men. Meanwhile on the right flank enemy calvary charged the legionaries, and in the middle the whole line of soldiers were being pushed back by the long pikes of the Pezhetairoi. To add to his fear, his left flank was being engaged by the Chaeonion Agema. All seemed to hang in the balance of his soldiers discipline.

Then as if the Gods smiled at him that day, the enemy commander was to impetuous and was cut of from his body guard. He fought on hard, but the mass of soldiers that surrounded him was unbearable and he instead of dieing by a roman pig, put his own sword into his belly. He was dragged of his horse and slashed and spat on by who knows how many soldiers. His horse soon fell too and he looked at it, and said "You are much better than those barbarians." Those words were met with a gladius in his neck and his last breath was full of blood. Alexanders blood.

News of the death quickly spread and one by one levies and battered phalanxes began to run. Lucius was too far away to see what happened but when he saw the enemy run he quickly ordered the movement of his own bodyguards to flank the Chaeonion Agema. After gaining speed and lowering their spears they charged right into the backs of the phalanx. Much to his surprise though the phalanx did not break but was so disorganized by multiple attacks that it just ceased being effective. They were quickly cut down and shredded in flesh and steel.

After that, the whole army broke. The 2nd line had by this time enveloped the phalanxes and with their general gone and elites defeated the ordinary pezhetairoi saw no reason to fight and ran.

Exhausted after a long fight that lasted hours, Lucius blew his horn and ordered no chasing the routers. Not like the men could though. They had no breakfast and those who did were now throwing it up from the countless bodies and smell on the field. Lucius got of his horse and walked to the spot where he had killed a man. He was laying on his chest and was facing down. Lucius, with difficulty flipped him on his side and looked him in the face. Clean shaven, dark green eyes, young. This man must have been no older than 25. Lucius got on his knees and spoke to the corpse.

"I know that if the circumstances would have been different, you and I could have been friends. But you are an enemy of Rome, and I a Barbarian. I'm sure you fought well, and deserve a proper burial, but it does not work this way." He spoke so calmly, as if to a son, it was an ere conversation, well dialogue. "For i have won, and you have lost."

With that Lucius took out his dagger and cut through the dead mans chest to his heart. With much skill and dexterity he cut out his heart and looked at it. Then he took a piece of cloth from the young soldier and wrapped it. He closed the dead mans eyes and kissed him on his forehead. Then he took the heart and set it on the ground next to a Greek standard he took out his sword and dug a small whole, just enough for the heart to fit it. With that he set the heart into the ground and covered it with dirt.

That night, after the soldiers had their way with the loot and took what they wanted, there was a great feast in the fort, even though they had to make a new one. The enemy commanders head was on a stake in the middle of the fort right next to the main tent's entrance. Lucius was drunk with wine, and pondered. What barbarians war makes men.
