Phalanx for the Koinnon Hellenon

While playing a custom battle I noticed that the Koinnon Hellenon could choose the unit "Greek Phalanx", the kind with the long spears, like the Makedonians have. However, I have the highest level barracks built in all my Homeland provinces, but I am unable to build that unit. Is there some kind of reform or event that needs to happen to make this unit available? Or is it available in custom battles only? Thnx.

I could be wrong, but I believe those units will become available after the March of Time event.
(That's when the Romani get a huge city, other then Rome).

Does it matter where the Romani have that Huge City.....because I am about to invade Italy.

has to be in italy but there are some ways around it. not long ago a simmilar thread was opened, i'm shure you can find it via search.

(I invaded italy too and now I have to rely on mecenary phalanxes and hoplites :D )

That wont work. Someone correct me on this, but as far as I know, you will only get the MoT event if a faction with the Roman culture (so only the Romani) has both Rome and upgrades another city in italy to huge level.

So conquering a city in italy, upgrading it and then giving it back to the Romani with force diplomacy wont work either, the Romani have to upgrade it. You can offcourse cheat and give a roman city in italy more population.

Woked fine. You can upgrade it by urself and give it then to the Romani. I did it in my Mak and in my KH campaign. The goverment building can be Greek culture and I guess every other culture too.

Thnx a lot for the response guys. Well, it's gonna be 1- a defensive war in Southern Italy and waiting for the March or Time......or 2- an all out war with Roma and give them back Roma and another city once they are Huge. Time to send in the spies to check out the progress of the Romani.
I am lucky though, Epeiros still had the heel and the toe of Italy and recently kicked the dudes from Carthago from Sicily. So, since I am playing with the Koinnon Hellenon, I can use their lvl 4 barracks there to keep up the invasion and have not to wait for reinforcements from Hellas all the time.

Try to weaken the Romans as much as possible. Their smallest cities should be Arpi and Ariminium. Take them, since they won't be essential. Try to leave Capua, which shold be their second most populous city, after Rome.

And the invasion is not going so good. Pontos is nocking on eastern door, the Ptolemies as well. And I had some "collisions" with several Romani Legions and about 4 full stacks of Epeiros armies. So now Taras is under siege.....I just hope my reinforcements will arrive in time.

The siege of Taras ended with Epeiros withdrawing to deal with a Quarthadast army in Sicily. So my reinforcements marched south-west to Rhegion and captured it after destroying the relief force. The rest went smoothly from there and now my troops are laying siege to Syracuse. And it must have been after the capture of Rhegion or Lilbeo, but my phalanx troop are now available!!! And I didn't even get the March of Time event. Perhaps it's because I captured Southern Italy?

There is no eventscreen or message for this event, like the one in vanilla. I guess the Romani upgraded on of their cities to huge. But now you no longer have to hold back. Go and sack Rome and all their other cities!
