The server was not *scheduled* to go down, there was a technical issue; our technicians are working on it as we speak.
And maybe TWC members should stop spamming this thread so badly, lest we find it locked and barred soon.

Norman Invasion - The fate of England lies in your hands...
Viking Invasion II - Unite Britain in the best TW campaign ever!
Gods and Fighting Men: Total War - Enter the Mists of Myth in Ancient Ireland
I saw that typo Aradan :P
There's already been a wave of deletion. The only reason this thread still stands is because I like you TWCers and I want you all to have a place to vent, hang out, and socialize while your site is on the fritz. I think you would do the same if our positions were reversed.
If that hospitality is abused, however, this and every other "is the twc down again?" thread from here on will be viewed as spam and deleted. And I really don't wanna go down that road.![]()

They have changed to the new server, but obviously, all the kinks have not been ironed out yet.
Don't be to hard on CA apparently (well according the PC Gamer UK) the AI in Empire is and I quote 'A bastard on hard difficulty settings'.
Good to see this place has Comic Sans MS and Green. Looks like the Helios will be delayed for this month. BTW Hi to all TWC refuagees I just hope the .org fanboys don't mind us invading your space.
Here's a social group for TWC'ers to hang out while we are waiting for the website to come back up: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/group.php?groupid=65

We actually have at least two issues here at once. Maybe more. Believe me this is more irritating for myself and Sim than it is for anyone else, as neither one of us foresaw these kinds of problems.
First, there seems to be an issue with kswapd and the Linux kernel. We are using Ubuntu and I can find numerous threads on this in their forums. Sim disabled the swap files a few days ago as trying to kill the process doesnt work, and performing a normal reboot locks up the entire OS requiring a hard reboot. I think he later renabled the swap files, but I havent asked him to be sure.
We also had a problem with usbcore locking up, which hopefully was fixed by disabling the USB ports via BIOS and blacklisting the processes from even starting in the first place. Friday afternoon/evening I went through all the BIOS options and disabled all the hardware we do not use. This includes serial/com/USB/second NIC, etc. After several reboots to make sure the system would come back up it seemed to be running fine. I checked it early Saturday morning and it was up and running with what I considered to be a normal load average.
I do not know what took the server down this time, it would not respond to a login shell, and going to the server and performing a hard boot doesnt work either. Currently I cannot even log into the machine even when standing at it. Something got a bit hosed up. Early tomorrow morning I will be going back and trying to boot to a live CD and figure out what happened. Worst case is I reinstall on the OS partition and reconfigure. The data is stored on a separate partition and should be intact.
The second problem actually is beyond our control. Sim ran a network map on our IP address and its showing some stuff it shouldnt show. Particularly there are Micrsoft NetBIOS and SQL ports responding, and we are not using Microsoft. So it seems to both of us that somehow our IP is not pointing at our machine. I will be talking to our host about that in the morning as well. I am too damn tired to go back there tonight.
The host actually has a core router replacement scheduled for March 2nd. I do not know the details on that other than they expect that there might be some network speed issues for 30-45 minutes while that is being replaced. I was notified of this when I installed the server. Its possible that the router they are replacing was already having some issues and they have gotten worse, I will get more details from their network engineer tomorrow.
The downtime Friday evening WAS announced in the Q & S. That was the last scheduled downtime. The current downtime was NOT scheduled, and is actually driving me nuts.
GED I program linux (as you've seen in my "Linux Thread") would you like some help?

Yeah sure.
Tell me why the server boots, shows a login prompt, then a black screen when you go to login.
