depends, m2TW allowed ur mods to be installed as well as the vanilla game so u could start either ur mod or ur vanilla game with diff Exe's but they were both installed. Assuming Empire is the same, AND assuming keep the original files in tact and create a whole new folder u should be able to run the original exe and play online :)
mmm not very clear but i think it makes sense :P
perhaps the better question should be can u play your mod online, and the answer is no, unless some1 else has the same mod :) (i assume this works?)
"How come i cant make friends like that"
"You need to get out more"
"Im in another galaxy, how much more out can i get"
yes that would stop u from playing online.
i had trouble in Rome cos i used to modify my own files, and when i went to lan with my mates i had to give them my files cos i didnt have the vanilla ones :)
what i was getting at is for example i installed The Long Road which was a mod for M2TW, which when i ran the M2TW launcher asked me if i wanted to run vanilla or TLR. if i choose TLR i woudlnt let me go online but if i choose vanilla i would be able :)
hope that helps

It does help, thanks.
The concern would obviously be someone editing unit stats and then just taking those edited units online.
If someone has edited anything, it should lock them out of online.
