    Go with 64bit, especially when you get more than 3GB of RAM.
    No real reason to go 32bit unless you have some old peripherals where you can't get 64bit drivers anymore.

    Are the compatibility modes in 64-bit notably worse than in 32-bit?

    Well, the old 16 bit games just plain won't run in a 64 bit OS. Apparently, it's just plain unpossible. Also, Gametap (and probably a couple others) don't support 64bit OSes either.

    Just wait until you can get those on GOG, i wouldn't really expect my DOS version of ATF to run in 32bit Vista either.
