I didn't vote for my home country in this poll, but I was psyched to see my hometown appear.
Baton Rouge: Represented!
University or Tavern? I guess LSU is more of the latter...
So far I have really enjoyed my Prussia and French games. As Prussia I carved out most of what is Modern day Germany; and then France declared war so I had to take them out of the picture.
As France I started the revolution about 80 years early and played Napoleon at every one else's expense.
Spain and The Netherlands were fun, but I have enjoyed France and Prussia more. I am still feeling out Russia.
USA here voting for Prussia. BTW, I hate RTI and American faction. Completed GB and Prussia and working on France.
Prussia is just too fun. My armies are constantly marching back and forth across central Europe beating back multiple full stacks (I turtled a bit mid-game for AI to catch up). France/Spain are the new Egyptians. Right now I am fighting World War I: 4 Prussian stacks on the western front facing hordes of full stacks of French and Spanish, 3 Prussian stacks on the eastern front facing around 3 times their number of Russians, and 2 stacks in the alps facing the Italians and Austrians.
Cannot make a dent in the front line due to video memory CTD when more than 2 stacks are involved (no problems in custom battle though). Star forts are deathtraps; I let them take Brussels/Strasbourg then counterattack!
I also had sort of a Jutland, except the British were wiped out instead of merely roughed up a bit.
What!? Glorious Poland has only one miserable vote?
I voted United Provinces, but I actually have a new favourite. Don't like how easy it is to spam troops? Play as a faction that literally cannot build more than 6 units of infantry!

When I say Prussia you say Army!

Out of the original major factions, I'd have to say Russia is my favorite. You get to engage small and obscure factions, you get to take on the Ottomans and Persians, and you have a secure eastern flank. Plus, you get to do alot of development within your lands rather than being in a position where your raking in the cash to begin with.
Of the minor factions that I've played so far, Hannover has been my favorite, differing unit colors aside. You see, the campaign color for Hannover is a light purple, but their units are red like the Polish. I rather enjoy their central position, which allows for a wide variety of campaign possibilities, from attacking Great Britain and securing the Hannoverian Succession, to unifying Germany or becoming a Scandinavian power. They also start with a weak province and offer a big challenge at the outset. Once I try Denmark, Venice and Portugal I might have a different opinion, but so far I go with Hannover.
"Religion is a thing which the king cannot command, because no man can be compelled to believe against his will..."
- GB if anyone EVER invaded them to wake me up from Boredom..
- UP was a bit too easy but cool to take over Europe from the Dutch.
- I think I go with Prussia! I just love the thought of everyone hating you and taking them anyway..
Prussia's in the lead-looks like i'll have to try playing as them!
It seems some of the mniors are getting disporportionately large amounts of votes (although this admittedly equates to about 2). Italian minors have more votes than Austria? Think of the air rifles people!
The best part is the inevitable point of critical mass where you start becoming entirely unstoppable. It's not like with colonial factions where it's all about your domination of trade or the other theatres, with Prussia the whole world hates your guts because you've turned eastern Europe (usually) into mulch, and they can't do a damn thing about it. It's so deliciously evil, and so very much more personal that everything you've done has been direct actions against the other so called 'major powers' right there in their home territories. You've had to sweat and bleed for every penny you could get while those idiots grow fat on their huge incomes and wandered giant stacks aimlessly about the place like toys and now, now they're all ****ed.
I'm also immensely happy that my staunchest ally, my most cheerfully supportive friend who has remained a pleasant bright green no matter what I did, is the Ottoman Empire. Heehee! I didn't even ask them to be my military ally because I didn't want everyone declaring war on them all the time. Heathens? Well I find them quite agreeable actually, who says there isn't room for two religions....not three though, die Catholic scum!![]()
Love is a well aimed 24 pounder howitzer with percussion shells.
I voted for France because I'm enjoying my current campaign as them. A point about Austria someone else made in another thread was they are extremely weak economically to start off with..I couldn't say if you can improve that much because I got bored of having no money pretty quick.
Ottomans have been the most satisfying so far.
Oh the joy when I finally managed to build some line ships and knock the living daylights out of the Venetian galleys who had been blocking my sea trade for nearly 20 years.
By far my sweetest feeling of revenge in almost 9 years of Total Warring.
"St Juniper once said, 'By his loins shall ye know him and by the length of his rod shall he be measured.' The length of my rod is a mystery to all but the Queen, and a thousand Turkish whores, but the
fruits of my loins are here for all to see. I have two sons, Henry and.... another one.
Step forward, Harry, Prince of Wales."
( King Richard in Blackadder)
The thing about the Ottomans is that I went in expecting an army based around antiquated Janissary muskets. Turned out that it was an army based on swordsmen. It was actually a fun surprise. It just seems bizarre that they are even more backwards than the Indians.
Also, even though their New Model infantry are based off of 19th century units, they don't have fezzes. Biggest disappointment by far! If you're going to be historically inaccurate, give us fezzes, damnit!
