Happy labour day for those who work, wishing to those who need one to get one... and if you don't need one... well, you just wish the same as I do!
Cheers people! Happy day!

Does Labour Day have still a meaning in Argentina or maybe Latinamerica in general?
Just curious.

This year, since the main union of workers IS the government, it lacks somehow importance. Yet there are people that remember it as the real significance of Labour Day has.Does Labour Day have still a meaning in Argentina

I think it has globally lost a lot of ground. It is just an opportunity for people to go have coffee![]()

One of my chambermaids caught me beautifully this morning.
She's Belgian, and quipped "Monday is a very special day in my country."
I responded sternly, "Labour Day?" firmly intending to have the little communist horse-whipped if she so much as thought about asking for time off.
"No, it is for Star Wars," she beamed back mischievously.
"Star Wars?" I queried, walking straight into the trap.
"Uh-huh. May the Fourth be with you."
Bloody peasants. Who said the Belgians haven't a sense of humour.![]()

I attended the rally in Sydney this year and I am so glad I did - my faith in the future of humanity and the entire Progressive movement was restored.

There were quite a few speakers towards the end, such as Verity Firth from the ALP, a Greens Councillor, a couple of Union Secretaries and an Immigrant worker from Pacific Brands who was about to be laid off (He got a huge round of applause).
All in all, a fun day. The mood was really optimistic and there was a real feeling that we were on the verge of an important era for the Progressive movement.
