Night 1

The home of Geno Vetto (Beefy187) was heavily-fortified against invaders. Ever since the bloody war with the rival Cataldi family finished a few years ago, Geno took his security extremely seriously. Before, you could count on your home being a sanctuary, a place off-limits for all those who were out to kill you. Were you marked for death, your attacker would do the honorable thing and pick you off away from the eyes of your wife and kids. However, the old ways were dying. The breaking of Omertà was evidence enough to this fact.

One thing that a fortified house did not protect against, however, were policemen. A warrant could break down the mightiest of walls. Unluckily for Geno, it was such a police car that drove by in the night, stopping at his house for a very long time. Thinking this was the end, Geno was prepared, saying good-bye to his family.

Two cops exited the car and walked up Geno's driveway, ringing the doorbell. Before Geno could answer, it opened. Staring at the two cops through the doorway were four men wearing nice Italian suits and sunglasses.

"Mr. Vetto is currently receiving medical care on the premises," one of the men said. "His heart is very fragile for the time being and his doctor is worried that a sudden shock - such as seeing two policemen enter his house and come barging around - would send him into cardiac arrest. Please come back at a later time."

"I'm afraid that won't do, you dirty scumbags," the braver of the two officers said. "We have a warrant for his arrest, and we intend to carry it out." He took out the warrant and made it plain for all four men to see.

"And we have explicit doctor's orders that say that Geno Vetto is not to be moved," the lead mafioso in the doorway said. "Show 'em, boys." At that moment, all four men reached into their trenchcoats and pulled out a significant amount of weaponry. Aghast, the cops took several steps back. "Please come back at a later time," the lead mafioso said again, this time smirking.

The cops could do nothing but storm back to their car and drive off.

However, despite the victory he had won today, Don Giampetro was not in a good move. The police's move on Geno Vetto confirmed his fears. The Catalanos were being infiltrated from within. "Michael," he said to his Underboss, "Summon a meeting. I want everyone formally inducted into our family to attend. We need to talk about what's happened and what we need to do." Nodding, the Underboss departed, in order to arrange the meeting.

Later that day, in a secret location, the Don looked around the very large table at all of his friends. They all looked back at him. Someone, someone looking back at him this very instant, meant to betray him and turn him into the authorities. He took a long look, piercing deep into his comrades' eyes, and then sighed.

"Gentlemen," he said, "Take a look around. You all have been in this company before. It is among this particular group in which you first became a full part of this thing of ours, enjoying all the benefits and protection that we offered to you. Do you all remember what happened when you were first inducted? We asked you if you wanted to join, you said "yes", and then what? You swore an oath, that's what. On your very afterlives, you swore that you would never betray anyone else in the room.

"This code has been broken. We all have reason to believe that we have been infiltrated. Some dirty, no good stoolie, perhaps even two or three, have broken their word and all bonds of fellowship crafted amongst us these many years just to escape a little legal trouble. There can only be one punishment for this, and you all know what it is." All men nodded solemnly, as the Don continued. "I would have already acted on this matter, but I'm getting old, it seems, and my intuition is not what it used to be. I unfortunately cannot determine the identity of our Judas. However, that's why I have gathered you all here. Certainly the democratic, popular majority of you gentlemen, each of you incredibly intelligent, can sniff out the rat. Therefore, we shall take a vote. Whoever achieves the most votes shall have his career with the Catalanos, unfortunately, prematurely ended."

With that, everyone was silent for a minute. After that, deliberation slowly picked up.

I believe we have no reason to jump the gun, not until the don can gather as much information as he can and make his judgement. I for one know nothing, and as of the 26th post since this day has begun, I have no reason to suspect anyone. This blind finger pointing will get us nowhere, we must not destroy ourselves but rather work as a family to root out those who wish to betray us.
