    Great work, seriously.
Don´t worry about the lack of pictures, when storys are great there´s no image that can fully express its greatness.

Hahaha!, i´m the worst try of a phylosofer that exist, but that´s all i can say with my limited english.

Anayway im not worthy enough to give you this but who cares. .

And then of course there's the occasional grammatical error. Nothing a run through microsoft word couldn't fix, if you wrote it on there and then pasted it into your post.

But truly very awesome stuff! A++!
Oh, well I tried to post recent family trees to help out, but I guess ill try to make things more clearer later. Couldnt hurt I guess. (Would you really give an A++ for something with grammatical errors)

    Bloody sand

Philisor stood there, his body big and muscular, greatly emphasizing his
history as a warrior. From head to toe, his skin was baked, and dark from
the suns heat. He bore on his chest many scars from previous battles.
On his cheek, there was a deep cut which created a ditch in his skin, from
his right ear to through his cheek, all the way to his lip.

The past years, while he was on campaign against the numidians, he had
hardened. He needed little to survive. He went days without food, and
great lengths of time without water. His body learned to be obedient to
him. He never took his armour off, so it became light to him. He never
wasted his energy. He only conserved it. Saved it, for what would be later.

Now, his eyes followed the columns of Roman soldiers. He was assigned to
hold the hill at all costs. He was only allowed to retreat when he heard the
horn of Hamalcar. He always obeyed orders.

"Do not fear men. We have faced much adversity in our lives. We faced
hunger and thirst, and exhaustion. And we still triumphed. How many miles
have we marched under the hot sun?"

There was silence. Every man knew his duty. Every man knew that he did
not matter. Only obedience mattered. They had all hardened, like Philisor,
and those that didn't, they didn't live long.

"We stand here, not a step back, until we hear the horn. Then we hightail
it back behind the lines. Understood?"

In unison, several thousand men yelled "YES SIR!"

Philisor watched as the Romans neared. Closer and closer they came,
practically at crawling speed. He knew why too.

They were not prepared to fight us. They didn't know what true
exhaustion was. They did not know what thirst was, or hunger. For
two weeks they chased us deeper and deeper into the desert. The deeper
they chased, the less food and water they had. They had expected us to
fight, but we did not. Now, they were parched. Their skin was burned, and
many could not handle the strain of the sun on their armour, which heated
up to enormous degrees. Others, he was sure, had blisters from the suns heat,
    on their faces, and sandals.

Philosor smiled at Hamalcar's brilliance. Surely, such a man was fit to rule.

"Get ready!" Philisor yelled a final order. There was a deafening clamour of
spears being put over their shoulders as man stood next to man to fight
off the enemy. The Romans charged the lines, but they did not know what
    was to come.

The moment before the clash of men was always the worst. There was a
strange silence, and then a whole plethora of sound. Shields breaking,
swords and spears grinding, men dieing, the wounded screaming. Philisor
had heard it all. He thrust his sword into the enemy. The man quickly fell
and another took his place. And so began the battle.

The second man almost knocked down Philisor, but was unable to finish the
task. Philisor ended his life as well. The battle continued, as the Carthaginians
pushed and thrust their spears into the Romans, and the Romans thrust their
    swords into the Carthaginians.

The fighting continued, and it seemed like forever was held in those few minutes.
Philisor knew that his line would not hold forever. Men were falling everywhere.
    Then the trumpet sounded.

"Fall back! RETREAT! RUN MY BOYS!" Philisor yelled as he thrust his sword again,
    to help another man flee.

    ***************
The ranks broke and the rout started. The enemy general, cocky in his
quick victory, personally charged the fleeing soldiers. He killed a few, and
rode one, not noticing what was ahead.

The fleeing soldiers ran behind the second line of men, who had been waiting
for the enemy. Philisor stood behind the 2nd line, and tried to catch his
breath. The enemy fell upon the 2nd line, this time with less ferocity, but
their numbers were larger. After he had caught his breath, he heard the
trumpet sound once more, and the 2nd line retreated behind his line, which
had widened to create an even longer line.

The romans charged again, and as planned, Philisors line allowed them to
push the carthaginian line closer to the 2nd line. The romans thought they
were falling back, but Oh!, they did not know what awaited them. When the
trumpet sounded again, the Romans had already pushed too hard, and ended
being in a semi-circle or men. Trapped, exhausted and scared, they threw
down their swords and ran. But not before many of them were plainly cut down.

Thousands fell, and those who weren't caught by the infantry, were run down
by the heavy cavalry, which had been waiting and saving its energy.

The enemy General was pulled off his horse and hacked into peices. Philisor
laughed as he realized the best part of the battle was yet to come. Those
that they did not catch, the sun would take care of. For there was no refuge
for these men for many miles.

The battle was an immense victory. 70000 roman lay dead making the sand
crimson, while only 5000 Carthaginian men, out of 30000 gave their life for
this victory. Philisor sat in the bloody sand and rested. Now he could go home,
    he thought.

Wonderful update Vasiliyi. I really like the style you show the events from the perspective of one man at a time I also found it nice to see romans fight (and fall) in the desert - haven't experienced in EB so far.

Cannae... Well a really fitting Name. The other really good name which I thought on first was Carrhae...

"As many houses so many tradtitions (and atlest four times as many tastes) it seems" - they look a bit too corolful to me, although they have there use as anti-cavaly troopers.

There meny nice looking units in EB although I have come to judge warriors by there looks, but by there fighting skill. At first site I believed Gaesatae and Tindanotae were just some "easy to kill" naked fanatics like the ones in Rome - I learned from experience how wrong I was

Thank you Jebivjetar, if you think this is good, wait till part 2. It will be much, much worse off for the Romans.. I think. Or will the romans be able to defeat Barca? (Oh THE SUSPENSE!)

I do like to use them in my Romani campaign, they are my suicide sqauds. They go where the fighting is heaviest. Needless to say, they dont last too long in my legions.

Thank you. Yah, I like this style too, because it allows me to get a better picture of the whole campaign. Yah that battle was fun, but I hate to break it to you, it was a custom battle.

    The walls

The streets of the great city of Kart-Hadast were dustier
than ever.A year had passed since the Romans took over
the city, and now, due to the greatness of Hamalcar they
    were expelled off the continent.

After defeating the Romans in the desert, the remaining
roman garrisons were slaughtered in the streets they
occupied. A few brave last stands took place in each city,
but they were finished off by the citizens of each city.
Two things remained left to do.

Today, The grand army, which had left to fight the numidians
almost twenty years ago, returned finally, to its resting place.
Kart-Hadast. They walked in step, perfectly drilled in their
parade march. Each man carried his weapons and armour
with ease, completely dressed for battle. The citizens of
Kart-Hadast ran up to the soldiers, kissed their hands and
thanked them with tears for doing so much.

First the lighter infantry marched in, their javelins strapped to
their shield, looking straight ahead, as if they were unaware of
anyone watching them. They walked up the wide main street of
Kart-Hadast and stood at attention at the Palace steps.

Second the heavier infantry too marched in, and they too,
were greeted with flowers and kisses from younger girls.
Cheers sounded from the oppressed crowd, which had been
    freed by the Great Hamalcar.

After the Heavier infantry marched in, the elite marched in,
their Sarissa pointing high into the sky. The african elite
axemen too followed in, showing their sharp weapons of
war as they marched beautifully to the palace.

After all the infantry marched in, the choice cavalry galloped
gallantly through the citizens, which have been saving their
pomp for these men. Each cavalry soldier carried with them a
horn, which when they arrived at the desired, they blew with
all their might, and finally, Hamalcar the Great, The savior of
the city, Rode on a chariot, along side of Bomilkar.

Bomilkar and Hamalcar had their hands on each others shoulders,
as a sign of friendship, and with their other hand they waved at
the people. Their chariot was adored with gold and all sorts of
precious metals. They made their way to the palace, and when
reaching the steps bottom steps it, Bomilkar stopped, while
Hamalcar walked all the way too the top.

At the top of the stairs, Hamalcar raised his hand to speak.
There was a complete silence from the crowd. Thousands of
people stared at Hamalcar, the man they now adored for saving
    them, in silence.

"Free people of Kart-Hadast. It is an honor to stand here in front
of you. My heart, goes out to all of you, who suffered under the
Yoke of the Romans. I swear to you, that they shall be punished
for their wrong doing. I will not rest until every city they occupy
    burns."

He wasn't able to finish the sentence before the crowd cheered
with a sudden madness. "Burn, burn, burn, burn, burn."

Hamalcar let them cheer for a little while, but then raised his
hand for more silence. "My people, for many years, this city was
run by corrupt people. They forced the poor to be poorer, the
weak were oppressed, the widow and the orphan were mistreated.
THIS STOPS NOW. I have personally hunted down the people,
and now, we will bring them to justice. They will be hung off
the walls of our great city, to show all that we are not a
    corrupt people!"

The crowd once again broke into a mad cheer, but this time
they all shouted different phrases. "Hang them!" Some shouted,
"Cut them into pieces, and send them to the corners of the
empire!" Others did. There were thousands of phrases being said.

"My people, with the senate being so corrupt, and now dead,
I will assume power. I will rule with a loving hand, which I
always have shown to you all. The army, after today will be
free to return to their families. Taxes will resume their normal
status. The granaries will be open to all who are hungry. This
city will prosper under my rule, I vow that to you, with my life."
With that said, he bowed down to his people.

There was an erie silence among the people. They had fled
Tyre, centuries ago, to avoid the hardships of a king. But
now, as proved, even the Senate can be corrupt.

"LONG LIVE HAMALCAR! LONG LIVE THE GREAT KING! LONG
LIVE KART-HADAST!" The crowd suddenly erupted.

They cheered for more than half an hour, all the while,
Hamalcar was on his knees bowing down to his people.
Even the army couldn't keep from cheering. Each man
clashed his sword, or axe or spear against his sheild.
    *********************************

That day, and for the next 6 days, the city celebrated
its new king. The council, which Hamalcar caught trying
to escape by boat to Sicily, were individually charged
with corruption, were hung off the walls of the republic.
There was one man, who was particularly heavy, who's
body ripped from its neck when it was dropped landed on
    the had sandy floor.

The spectacle only excited the crowd even more. People
from all the great cities of Africa came to the city. Even
Carthalo from Karali, and Adherbal from Lepki went to the
city to bow down to their new king.

And so, the walls of the republic, were now the walls of the Empire.

Well, Hamalcar has a son who is also in the story (Barca.) Hes Sharp/charasmatic/vigorous, and has countless other good traits. Im pretty sure he will succeed him. But we'll see.

Yah, i had to include that part about the heavier one, people had to know that Hamalcar meant business. You'll have to wait for the italian campaign a bit here still. Hamalcar is in his mid 40's. Still has time to hold it together. Im pretty sure his son will rule after him.

(oh a side note, ive noticed a very strange occurrence in the family tree. Both Hamalcar's wifes are named Polymede. If you ask me thats just creepy. Also Barca's wife is 8 years older than him. Creepy.

That's awfully sexist of you, bet you wouldn't raise an eyebrow if his wife had been 8 years younger would you?
More seriously, most marriages would have been about political influence, if a wife from an advantageous family came on the market age was rarely a factor. Getting a hot 16 year old was usually just a bonus.

Well, ive only really seen wifes be younger than their husbands, I think anyways. The really creepy part is that she has the same name as Barca's dead mom. Either he is really into that or that is just plain weird.

    Ah, how kind!

Lusos in Ireland, your doing or a rebellion? Yellow death on the rise, AS look done for, everything else pretty standard.
It was my doing. If you read a few chapters back, there is a vague chapter about the lusos fleeing north.

Default Re: Thassalokratia- A Carthaginian AAR

    The end, of the beginning

Barca looked over the map of Spain, in his tent. There was
now a little drawn Carthaginian banner over all the cities in
Spain. He traced his finger from Gader, to Baikor, then onto
the place where Six battles were fought against the Lusitani.
Then he followed his path of Victory as he fought other
tribes of Spain. The greatest of the tribes, the Lusitani, fell.
Then the Asturians, Cantabrians, the celtiberians, Vettones,
Carpetani and finally Edetani. They all fell to his mighty army.

He was 26 Years old now grizzled in battle, and understood
tactics well enough to lead an army in his sleep. His father
sent him documents and scrolls written both by the Romans
and Hellenes. Over the last 10 years, he had read hundreds
of accounts of battles and tactics which were written in
    those endless scrolls.

    (Kurush Wuzurg)
He read about the great Kurush Wuzurg, which created the
Persian empire. He read of the mistakes of Darius and Xerxes
when they attacked the Greek city states. He read about
the ferociousness of the Spartans which held the mountain
passes for 3 days. He read of Phillip which reformed the
Makedonian army in order to conquer the city states of the
    Hellenes.

He remembered his heart swell when he read of the victories
    of Alexander the Great.

    (Alexander the Great)
He remembered crying when he read of the great siege of Tyre and how is mother colony held bravely but was sacked.

    (Siege of Tyre)
He couldn't eat for days when he found out Alexander the
Greats empire was torn apart after he died because of the
lack of a successor. He greatly admired Alexander and his
    style of warfare.

He remembered laughing out loud in the middle of the night
when he read of Brennus's sack of Rome. He fell asleep with
a smile on his face as he thought of the Gallic king throw
his sword onto the scale when the Romans complained that
the weights were inconsistent. His heart burned to rid the
    world of the Romans.

He read of the great Estrucian wars in which Rome rose to
dominance. He read about how the romans fought. He
memorized every battle that they fought in. He could actually
lead a roman army in it manipular warfare. First he would set
up the skirmishers and slingers, then the Hastati, following them
Principe, and then Triarii. Behind the Triarii would be light reserves,
or Rorari. Oh yes, he know how they fought. He knew of their deadly
Pila, and their discipline. He would put it to the test.

He took a sip of wine while he over looked the map of the
Mediterranean sea. He looked at various maps of Italy, and
tried to imagine what it actually looked like. He imagined the
Po valley where the the Romans had beat the celts and now
called home. Soon, he would be able to see it.

His thoughts were interrupted by Likinos, his champion ever
    since Uxentio left.

"Lord, the army is ready for your announcement." Likinos said stoically.

    "Thanks you, Likinos."

Barca stepped out of the tent, and looked over at Kanmi who
had aged little the last 10 years. He was in his 40's now, but
he stood at attention with more pride than any young soldier
    in the army.

He looked out at the encampment. Thousands of Warriors, clad
in their armour and armed to the teeth stood at attention, all facing
the tent which Barca had exited.

Their armour was cleaned and fixed for this occasion, as well
as their weapons sharpened and repaired. Many had personalized
their shields to depict the battles they were in. For 10 years
these men followed Barca. They all adored him.

"My brave warriors," Barca began. "For 10 years, we have
campaigned and conquered the tribes of Spain. Many times
I starved along side of you while campaigning. Many days I
marched with you all. I felt all the hardships you have felt. My
feet froze when yours did, my stomach grumbled when yours did.
In battle, I never hid from the enemy. No, I have many scars to
prove this. My sword has been bloodied just as yours has many
times. You are all my brothers."

The army cheered when he paused his speech. Never had Barca
seen his army held together by one spirit like they did today. His
heart ached as he continued to speak, as what he was going to
    tell them was hard.

"My brave warriors, you know of my hatred toward the Romans.
You all know that they are nothing but barbaroi who sneak and
connive whenever possible. They do nothing honorably. They
killed my mother, and until recently, held a terrible yoke against
the main cities of Africa. My father, has defeated them and
restored power back to us, but we must strike them back. That
is why, I ask you all to follow me to Italy. I am in need of hardened
men who know war just as well as I do. I need you, to come with
me to sack their cities. The wealth you acquire as we go there
will be yours. I will not ask for a single obol from you."

There was silence now. Barca knew there would be, so he
continued. "But first, each man will return home for one year.
Go home to your wives, children, fathers. Go home and rest,
you deserve it. Let every man know, that if he does not return,
he will not be considered a coward."

After saying this, the entire army burst in cheers and ran toward
Barca. They kissed his feet and hands and lifted him up with their
hands. They passed him along on their hands through the entire
army singing songs of praise towards theri great general. Barca
loved the men for what they did, but in his heart, he was restless
for having to wait another year.

    ***********************

That night, back in the tent, Barca stood again overlooking the
map. Next to him was Kanmi listening to Barca tell him of his plans.
Likinos, once again entered the tent. He was dressed in traditional
celtic armour dress. He wore his chainmail, and his helmet. In
its sheath, there was his longsword. His shield was strapped
to his back. He wore his sturdy leather boots, which had a strap
for a little dagger to be held in place on his right boot.

Barca turned around to greet his friend when he noticed that
Likinos was dressed to leave. Sorrow came upon his face and
he turned back to the map.

"And where will my great Likinos be going now?"

"Home." Likinos gulped as he spoke.

"Home." Barca repeated "To your wife and child?" Barca spoke again,
    still not looking.

    "Yes, lord."

There was a moment of silence. Awkwardness
filled the tent for single moment, and Likinos turned to leave.

Barca whirled around asked Likinos "Will I ever see you again, Likinos?"

Likinos looked into Barca's eyes for a moment and replied. "Yes."

With that Likinos turned and left.

Oh, this is most thrilling! Will part two deal with Barca's invasion of Megale Hellas? I can't wait to read about Rome getting sacked :-D

Yeah, I remember. I didn't realise you had kept them alive in game. Ready to build themselves back up and reinvade Spain at the worst possible time for Barca perhaps....
Great update to prepare for part two, love that map of Italy. What period is it from?

Well, im not sure what im going to do with the lusos quite yet. Ill probably use them in part 3. (Thinking of Ideas already) The map I found on Google. I made a terrible attempt to write in Italia, so make it seem latin, but whatever. I think its supposed to be a late Medieval map of Italy.

Ok. So with Part 1 done, there wont be an update for about a week an a half. I will be out of town starting all next week and then Ill get home on the following Monday that week. (the 22nd) Expect an update on that Tuesday or Wednesday.

I would also like to thank everyone who commented and read Part 1. Your input has seriously shaped the way I write my aar, and I will try to improve on every aspect of my writing.

A special thanks to Miotas and Johnhughthom.

Miotas for suggesting a different format to write it in to make it easier for people with smaller computer screens to read it, aswell as making it more pleasing to the eye.

A thanks to Johnhughthom for listening to my ideas for part 2 and offering ideas to make the story more enjoyable.

I always thought being a forger would be fun hammering metal. Also HAve you read Across The Waters: A Story Of Migration? It might be the greatest AAR i have ever read (well more story than AAR.) AT the end he posted everybody's names. I hope this AAR doesn't get screwed up by CTD.
