So to think of it treasury size may very well affect loyalty but I think indirectly rather than directly,

seeing as how if you don't have the money you can't build and may your subjects happy..
I know this has been a problem for me in RTW as I have to continually build to please the underlings of the city or I'd continually get riots and revolts... so I had to RomeShell some money just to survive as a faction... I hate doing it but I don't see an alternative...

Fortunately, population/overcrowding isn't something you have to worry about in MTW.

I don't think the size of your treasury affects loyalty of your provinces, just with your armies. So long as you're not taxing them too much, I doubt the "people" care very much about how much money you have....the troops in your armies, however, care a great deal.

Good point, troops that are not paid will rebel! That's why you do have to use mercs sparingly, as their loyalty is particularly capricious,; if the cash isn't there soon, they're gone!

Ah yes, this makes much sense Martok. Why would a soldier stay if he isn't getting paid anything? lol.

Could that perhaps be a factor in the cause of those pesky civil wars?

Indeed. Most of these blokes don't fight solely because of patriotism or loyalty to their liege lord (i.e., you); earning coin is most certainly one of their primary motivations.

I don't know that it really causes civil wars per se. However, it could easily aggravate any....domestic problems you may be experiencing.
