Thread: Forested steppe?

  1. #1

    Default Forested steppe?

I've fought several battles against rebel stacks in my Sauromatae campaign now and I've noticed something odd. These battles are taking place in open steppe on the campaign map but the battle map is heavily wooded. Has anybody else run into this? Is this a bug or is my understanding of geography way off the mark?

Every field battle i have is in a vast forest,or heavily forested map,no matter the terrain under the army.

I caught a rebel stack on a beach and thought Finally! an open terrain battle..

Uh-uh.It was in the middle of a forest.

So it's not just me then. This seems like a huge bug to me but I haven't come across any mention of it on this board.

I'm quite regularly fighting Lusotanni, Aedui and Getai in quite open terrain. I guess your forests may have something to do with the area your fighting in. Several area's have a specific ground-type (like Syrian desert, Alpine woodlands,...) maybe the percentage of forests on the battlefield is partly dependent upon the groundtype? (That's only a guess though.)

    kind regards,

If it's the north-western parts of the steppe zone, you're actually dealing with the transitional zone of "forest Russia"...

Disregard that. I tested and yeah, there's definitely something off with the steppes; those forests are everywhere and look like they came from the Med and Southern European zone. Now I know this stuff is governed by \eb\data\world\maps\base\MAP_CLIMATES.TGA, and the steppe zone *is* coloured different there, but apparently it's wrong somehow.

The matter will be passed on to the appropriate authorities.

Thanks. It's pretty frustrating to think that you're taking your horse archer army into battle in open country and then find yourself in the middle of the woods on the battle map.
