    Default Green Status

Are there any plans to use the 'diseased' status from beehives and cow ammo in EBII? IIRC, all it does is temporarily stats and I'm sure that some use could be found for it short of a Mithradates Diarhetic Honey Launcher.

In EB times, catapults didn't designed to fling rotten cows... as they must be bought mainly from steppe and that means the steppe army had a cow-flinging catapults....

Are you saying that cows only inhabited the steppes in Ancient times? That is so cool!

At that time there where no domestic bovids, but only the tamed wild one, the Aurochs, known to science as Bos primigenius. They didn't live in the steppe but in the thick forests of europe. The last herd lived in the Caucasus region.

    Ew.

Though I was really referring more to their spouting of what seems to me to be complete and utter bullshit when it comes to the history of domesticated cattle...

It would seem incredible that there weren't “real domestic cows/oxen” available at the time. For starters ancient mythology is full of 'em (granted, there are also plenty of tales about less docile animals too).

The Zeus rape one pops to mind. I don't think he could have gotten the jump on her if she didn't think it was domesticated. Doesn't the Odyssey talk about cattle on Helio's island?

    sheep?

Either way as far as I remember cows were domesticated quite early. I believe from neolithic times. Also the bull-leaping from the Minoans slip to mind...

Back on topic, were there battlefield events we could model using the green smoke from M2TW?

AFAIK the green stuff is just a localised morale hit, with a missile that doesn't damage buildings: Is that right?

If there is still "scares_infantry" type attributes then it seems somewhat superfluous.

The only thing I can think of is rather far fetched: Archimedes engines reputedly caused remarkable fear among Roman besiegers, but it hardly seems worth popping in a "Syrakusan Terror weapon" (Phobophetes Syrakousai?) as a faction specific (oops sorry I mean city specific) unit given how tight the roster is.

...the flaming pigs got a unit slot, yet the flaming-torch-festooned oxen missed the boat. Talk about Romano-centrism. Sheesh.

Defeat is not an option. The only question is how much we will win by.

Military History Quarterly once had an excellent article on Biological Warfare in ancient times. Its conclusion was that Bio-Warfare is almost as old as man. They also made some interesting inferences from "Homer" regarding the subject.

One story that i remember from that article, besides the Scythians penchant for poisoned arrows, was of a Roman force besieging a Greek city. The Romans dammed the river going through it and collected a massive amount of a local root that had the effect of causing dirreah, cramps, and nausea.

They threw the roots into the water, undammed the river, then just basically walked into the town after the thirsty defenders and citizens drank it.

I'm sure they'll bring them back just for you, Cute Wolf.

I don't understand why they ever got rid of them. They are the obvious weapon of choice for any faction wanting to go to war. Why spend loads of money on armour and weapons and soldiers, when you can just breed loads of pigs, cover them in oil or whatever and set them alight? Honestly...soldiers? Thing of the past. Flaming pigs are the way forward.
