    Default AI Expansion

While in home confinement/isolation I pondered my campaigns a bit. Those that have gone longest the past year before I got fed up with constant CTDs are; Roman, Sweboz, Roman.
In them all I have noted a tendency for most factions to expand North and overland. Anyone else seen this?

The most extreme was the Romans when I was sweboz, who allied with the Aedui, attacked me in mid-Germany after 50 years of game time but never even got to Sicily... in the same game KH made it to the Baltic in modern Estonia- Skt Petersburg area, but never expanded into Micraasia...

Yeah, try the Victory Conditions minimod, they tend to go for their victory conditions settlements more and not expand to the tundra

Someone (I think it was MAA) said a while ago, that the factions have a tendency to expand Northwards, and then spiral around.

Cool store, bro! I want some ham.
    No ham, pepsi.
They make deli slices of frozen pepsi now? Awesome!
You also need to purchase a small freezer for storage of your pepsi.
It runs on batteries. You'll need a few.
Uhh, I guess I won't have pepsi then. Do you have change for a twenty?

Never noticed the spiral. Only the N expansion. Thanks I might try the Victory Conditions minimod, though I need to clean up my harddisc soon before I install much more.

The AI expands into the direction of the player. The main target for the AI is the human opponent. This is hardcoded feature of RTW.

[SARCASM]Ah so nice they made that feature for us to enjoy[/SARCASM]
And why is that? It's almost that they didn't care for historical accuracy but for profits and gameplay.
Ah, luckily I found EB before I threw my RTW disc out of the window

    ...what is that?

anyhow, the barbaroi are actually very easy to bottle up if you're sweboz/keltoi. Just take the transalpine settlements and place forts in the mountains NEAR the passes. Stock up crazy on slingers (or baltic archers) and pelt them when they siege your fort. You'll be slinging lead downhill, watch them barbaroi die!

Doesn't work as good if they decide to spam Extraordinarii on ya though... I hate those guys....

I definitely see more northward expansion than towards-player expansion. For example, in my current AS campaign, the Romani have expanded into Gaul, the Alps (even defeating Satres) and Iberia, and are only just now (232 BC) starting to attack some Illyrian settlements. They haven't even conquered Rhegion yet, let alone gone for Sicily.

While I admit that Rome does sometimes strike North, I have also seen them ignore the north of Italy for decades as they conquer Sicily. During one game, after they conquered southern Italy, rather than invading Gaul, they actually launched a naval invasion of Greece instead! (this was with BI.exe, of course)
