    Question Re: Senior Members

Hmmm, the list is of SM certainly impressive, but I could name several Backroomers that I thought were going to be named. Such as Tribesman, who requires no explanation of his merits. Sure, he may be tad polemical at times, but that is a good thing IMHO - that is Backroom. From what the list of the new SM says, I see no "controversial" members, or at least none IMO.

So what are the requirements, or to put it better, the guidelines for selecting a Senior Member?

Im fairly sure Tribesman turned down being a senior member... not completely sure though...

The requirments used to had done something sizeable for either the .org or totalwar war, Modders, froggy for her guides ect.

These days I think its more of a been around a decent amount of time, fairly friendly (not nessecarily goody two shoes as far as I know but just generally decently behaved) and make a decent amount of posts I guess (not spamming)

I've been here a while so I think they figured in the end they had to give me it sooner or later...

To become a Senior Member you must be a solid member of the community, an example of which we can hold up and say "This is what we expect from you while you stay here at the .org." There have been exceptions to this, as slightly controversial members have also been given the SM status, but they are the exception not the rule. Large contributions to the community speak for themselves as does behavior.

Amount of time spent on the boards and number of posts made has nothing to do with considerations taken. In truth we don't "have" to give anyone Senior Member, instead it is given as a tip of the hat and a heart-felt 'thank you' to those who we feel have had a positive impact on this slice of the internet.

Well I was more thinking in terms of 3 nicely put well thought out posts a day rather than 1 nicely put well thought out post a day probably would get you there quicker as your interacting with the community more... I wasn't so much thinking purely based on post count.... obviously a post in the 3 word story is not the same as a long informative post elsewhere... and same with the time.... obviously the longer your here the more contribution you can make... the more likely you are to get the promotion.. but obviously 10 years spent generally spamming and being a pain without contribution won't get you anywhere....

Hmmm, this brings up another question - why in the bleeping heck is Foot not an SM? His contribution to EB is titanic. He is the current EB mod leader. He has almost 10,000 posts, nearly ever single one of them purposeful (at least on the public fora) - no small talk. His contribution to TW and .Org is more significant than at least five SM on the current list. Yet Foot is not a senior member...

    Anyone know why?

Clan is a shot back to the old days, where clan leaders had their own usergroup. Its an exclusive title.

Moderators, when stepping down, gain automatic Senior Member status, as thanks, and because they are. Assistant Moderators, do not.

It is true, with any honourific, it becomes less meaningful as time goes on. There are ways around it, to keep it a select honour, but as of now, its only around 10 people per 6 months that get it, but its when these people are the most active, you feel as though it means nothing.

However, it is up to Tosa/whoever else has a say/etc to decide how it is handed out.

Who's this Foot guy? Never heard of him. Hes made a contribution to his part of the subforum. A mod, not the .org.

That is a group of people I regulary read posts from that make me glad to be part of this forum. I would gladly give up my SM status to one of the first four, but thats mainly because I respect them, or love them (Shh, our love is secret Beefy) while the others are good solid members of the community, but I don't interact with them a whole lot.

Tell you what, a culling program wouldn't be a bad idea, I hear that a guy named littlegrizzly is asking for it.

In fairness to both sides, there is precedent to EB team leaders having been "Senior"ed in the past. The staff will, as always, take careful note of the membership's contributions and base its decision off that when the time next rolls around.

Well EB has rooted in the org almost from its early beginnings. If you see the "viewings" of org sub-forums you 'll notice that the EB part has one of the highest (if not the highest) viewings number at any time. It is well known that many people that joined the org for EB and EB only eventually discovered the rest of the forum. I'd say that it is an honour for the org that such a popular TW mod calls the org its home.

In addition most of the members, have one or more "operation" subforums. TinCow is to be found in PBEMs, Caravel in the Main Hall and the Sword Dojo etc. very few members participate in equal amounts of interactions with too many sub-forums. It would be unthinkable to say that "the Parliament is just a sub-forum for a game, not the org" and similarly it is imho wrong saying that EB is "a mod not the .org".

Anything housed within the org is imo the org.

It's not about "tradition" as such. Mod leaders don't automatically get Senior Membership AFAIK. In the case of Foot he has earned Senior Membership through his contributions here. It does not necessarily matter if he is only active in a particular forum/project or not. Mods that are hosted here are valid contributions to the .org and those leading or working on these projects are as deserving of recognition as any other .org patron.

Right you are. There are numerous people who do not get out of Gameroom much. That does nto diminish their contribution a bit, as it merely channels it into a different culprit.

IMO, he and the other modders are the only ones who are actually doing a job, working here, as opposed to the people enjoying themselves in the Frontroom, Backroom and Gamerooom. EB is not just a "mod", in the sort of dismissive manner you referred to it :P. Gollum is correct. Countless people come to .Org for EB. Some stay, such as me for instance. Everytime I see "Our Newest Member" there is usually a 2/3 chance he is viewing the EB forums. Without EB, this place would be far quieter.

I'm not saying that modders don't work hard and I really appreciate their efforts and hard work, but you are very mistaken if you think that hosting a mafia game is not hard work and does not require a lot of preparation, dedication and time. Hosting is rewarding, but it's very time consuming.

This discussion cannot stay neutral, due to the vast majority of participants liking EB, and me disliking it, because I've always been a R:TR fanboy.

As for someones post a bit beforehand, referencing how some mods stay within their areas. Caravel comes out, as does TinCow. Why, right now, hes accusing me of being a lying scumbag (which is fine, makes sense in game, since we are pirates) and even worse, calling me Pevergreen.

A more likely reason is that, until recently, the EB forum was something of a private era. The EB team ran things there, not the .Org moderators. Hence the contributions of EB members were less likely to be noticed by the forum staff.
