-Year 1620-
from January to June

It's been said that Emperor Friedrich II cried when he heard the news from east. General Tilly, who had besieged Ottoman fort in Balkan, was murdered just one day before the attack against the fort in Balkan. His men, now without their general, decided to go on with the attack but then things went completely wrong. Austrian army lost almost one third of it's soldiers before even reaching the walls of the fort. After that a bloody battle on the breaches started. Although couple regiments managed to enter the fort they were routed soon after that. Both sides suffered heavy casualties.

French fought in the same time a smaller battle against Spanish mercenary force in Milan. With his reinforcements, general de Treville, completely annihilated his enemy while suffering only minor casualties. However, this victory was unnoticed by majority of people because England had declared war on France. Fighting against three enemies proved to be too much for France as the time showed in the following months.

February was as bloody as the previous month. Austrian army under general von Mercy tried to balance things in east by attacking Ottoman fort in Hungary. Although they managed to take down part of the wall they still were defeated and had to retreat.

Louis XIII, just like Ferdinand II, received bad news from the front. Large Swiss army had moved south to engage de Treville and his army. Royal army did what they could but enemy just overwhelmed them and in the end they suffered the fate of Spanish mercenaries. General de Treville lost his life in this battle which meant that another good leader had died.

In March at least Emperor Ferdinand II got good news. Army of the Catholic League under Johan von Aldringen finally took Ottoman fort in Hungary. "The Battle for Hngary" was won by the Austrians. However, this did not changed much because they were surrounded by Ottoman forts in Wallachia and Balkan. Most importantly, the people in Vienna had lost their optimism. Quick war against the Turks, as the people had hoped, had become a distant memory.

In Paris, Louis XIII got another batch of bad news. English Royal Army under William McCoy had landed it's forces in Normandy. After defeating a small French force they quickly occupied the province and moved west, towards French port in Brest.

The following months only saw some minor engagements. McCoy took Brest and Spanish army in Southern Netherlands bombarded Chateau Subotan from April to June. Most likely this French fort will fall sometime in the second half of the year. Another French fort, near Switzerland, was besieged by Swiss troops who became more and more discontent as the war went on.

However, everything could change during the next six moths..
New wars could start and rebellions may arise...
