The locals only like being dangerous when there is an unsuspecting tourist around to scare, they are too lazy to do anything except eat, sleep and drink the rest of the time.

I thought it was hilarious, as if that would work! Always good to scare people off from coming here, since we don't want strange furriners want tourists with money to spend.

Footy is just shocking. AFL requires so many more skills and I find is a much rougher sport (Though they have softened it a lot in the last 5 years).

Because the British empire never colonised any places resembling Wales to the north of Britain.

That would only make sense if it was "South New Wales" though. And parts of Canada are more North than Wales.

Bah! The area where Cook landed looked like Wales (apparently, I've never been to Wales) and it was in the southern hemisphere, happy now? And South New Wales would be the southern area of New Wales so

Hope all you other Aussies got out there and put a snagger on the barbie and maybe even jumped in the pool to celebrate our big day. I know I did, and I am definately gonna pay for it tomorrow at work. Pulling a sickie anyone?

Unfortunately my pool is green. The chemical balance is all out of whack. And well, I really need it, it's been so hot the last week or so.

I had a steak and prawns on the bbq.

A friend of mines father got the Order of Australia for Medical service, etc. Which is pretty cool.

    Had a easy day.

Watched a few movies (including Gladiator, for the first time ever) then had family friends round for dinner.

Twas a grand day in Perth. Cooler than it has been recently so I could enjoy the beach with mates. IIRC, it was some ~40° last week.

    Hooray for nationalism!

I rather enjoyed my lazy Tuesday off. I think it's quite funny how 500,000 people also chucked a sickie on Monday off for a 4 day weekend. Cost the economy $250 million apparently

It's like Brazil, when their national team play the whole country stops.

Something I always like watching is Sam Kekovich's address to the nation, this year however it was an address to the World, the video for those not living in Australia, because everyone here has already seen it of course

Also, something that was on the radio on Monday, Hamish and Andy sung a tribute to all the Unaustralians. I am Unaustralian

    Oh dear...

Australia to lose its National Anthem!!!

As it turns out, the anthem was plagiarised. More disturbingly, it is a girlie tune too, meant for campfire whistling by girl scouts.

Australian band Men at Work have lost a federal court case in Sydney, Australia, after being sued for plagiarism over their 1981 number one US and UK hit single 'Down Under.'

The band now face paying up to 60% of the song's income, after the court ruled the song copied its flute riff from a Girl Guides song called 'Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree.' The campfire song was originally written for the 1935 Girl Guides Jamboree, by the now-deceased Marion Sinclair.

Well this sheds new light to the meaning of the lyrics of 'Do you come from a land Down under...where the women glow and men plunder'.

The whole thing is ridiculous because the Kookaburra tune is just a faster version of this welsh song.

This nonsense crops up every couple of years. Some ignorant jury hears a scratchy cassette that has 3 notes the same as a number 1 hit and votes to give the profits to some lowlife skimmer.

In 3 months a sensible judge will overturn this insanely ridiculous judgement.

Vote 1 the jury system: for truly surreal decisions on legal matters nothing beats 12 people being harangued by proffesional rhetors for a couple of days and then locked away until the all agree.

As for Australia, Pev and I and our fellow Antipodeans dwell in a beaut country on the best planet at the best time in history so far. That we know of.
