Default What would Alexander's empire have been called?

My guess would be Arche Alexandrou while he was alive, and Arche Hellas (or Makedonia) kai Asia Megale after his death. What is everybody else's?

Yes, I just put Alexandrou since he wasn't the most humble man ever and would probably do that in honor of himself.

On the other hand, the successor empires were named after their dynasties partly because there weren't any suitable alternatives. The Ptolemeans didn't call themselves Arche Aegyptus because they weren't Egyptians nor did they intend to limit their empire to Egypt. However, they couldn't call themselves Arche Makedonike either. I therefor suspect that Alexander would have seen his empire as the Macedonian or perhaps Hellenic empire.

errr... it was Alexander! Before Alexander (and to some extent his father Philip). Makedonia was nothing but a petty kingdom struggling to keep the little it had in therm of --empire-- (in we can say that) and without Alexander it would have stayed like that. Philip ''made'' the pavement of makedonia and Alexander gave it it's glory threw his many victories and conquest.

Exactly my point in my view philip did as much as alexander the great, afterall it was him who reformed the classical phalanax and conquered greece, it was philips origional plan to conquer the known world. Philip equipped macedonia ready for its plunge into persia and india. I dont know i supose its each to their own but as far as i know alexander was a macedonian!

Actually, as far as I know, Alexander was different monarchs in the same person: he was King (basileus) of the Macedonians, Lord of Asia, shahanshah of Persia, Hegemon of Greece, etc.- but his uniting the rule of these different lands in himself was not the same as making all these lands into one united kingdom: there was not any such political entity as The Alexandrine Kingdom, or whatever you guys are trying to call it. This is one of many reasons why his conquests fragmented when he died: they had nothing to keep them together outside of his army and personality (the former more than the latter).

Don't project modern notions of statehood into an era where they have no meaning.

So that was more or less like the union of British and Scottish crown? (in this case, Makedonian and Persian crown, while they are still technically different nation?)

Nah, that was peaceful. Besides, Scotland was for all intents and purposes still an independent state until the Act of Union.
