Because otherwise the same people would always be lynched first, and it does not seem fair. If someone is a good mafia player, the group reasoning could be that we can't take a chance with him and always kill him early. That's a sad way to look at things, and a good way to lose a player. Maybe I'm mixing some aspects of metagaming, which one is good and which is not, but I think my previous example show why that metagaming decision would not be nice.
