Whydoes posting or lack of posting at night mean anything? I don't really see any reason to post and night most posts at night are mild spam at best. There is no real new info to speak of until the next morning I very rarely post during the night phase on any game that I play.

There's a thread in the Frontroom where you can post pictures and talk about them. And the Frontroom itself is very well suited for talking about TS's travels in Australia.

Could you please continue this in the FR?

I am surprised. Are you saying that it's okay for a townie to lurk?

    Lurkers are bad, bad, bad.

I still have a one-digit experience of mafia games, but I am already very much anti-lurker. When in doubt, I'll vote a lurker over anyone active because otherwise I'll never get a clue about the lurker. These guys won't talk unless you put pressure on them. And they won't help much finding the mafia unless they work behind the scenes.

Look at what happened: I posted the spreadsheet, split made a list of names and suddenly quiet people start talking at night and get all defensive, isn't it fantastic?

That would work in a world where everyone write his share of posts, but it does not apply to people with a post every two days. There's no content to analyze.

I'll give you an example from this game: Peasant Phil. He posted the very minimum, one post per game day and never at night. Plus each post is conveniently a few hours before the deadline, so he has time to see the big picture. This is the first game I play with him, so I don't know if this is atypical of him, but I find it very suspicious.

How will you catch this guy early if you vote based on content? You can't.

If we always vote on content, we'll have a permanent bandwagon on The Stranger until he dies.

Depends on what you consider lurking. For example, some might consider us two lurking because our post count in this game is way below that of The Stranger, I don't see that as bad...

Except that Split has been less present that most people on his list, granted he seems to be more active now and that's good.

Also I would like to point out the irony of being accused of first being to talkative and present, then being accused of the contrary.

Yes, it does not work like that, otherwise a majority would be flagged as lurkers. I don't know where to draw the line, but to me anyone with 6- posts at this time is a definite lurker. They should be encouraged to speak.

Oh, but split is (or was) lurking. Maybe he felt he had to speak after looking at the spreadsheet.... I don't see you as a lurker. 14 posts in 7 phases, that's okay I guess but again, I don't know where to draw the line.

There are Lurkers and there are Lurkers.

Lurkers are those who never ever post or active, townie or otherwise, and pretty much get branded as such, no matter the game.

Lurkers are those who do it intentionally in a game.

I don't like to go on only post count. I will never be in the top post counts, but I try to add some help each time I post. Some just post to get their post counts up and add nothing to the game, to me that is worse, a distraction, that lets the mafia slip by unnoticed.

why would that let mafia slip by unnoticed. when no attention is payed to the distraction, it no longer is a distraction. a distraction says as much if not more about those distracted.

true that...there was so much fluff in the first 2 phases.
As many people have said - post count alone means nothing. And discussions during the night phase are very limited during any game, more so for vanilla style games.

And here comes my explanation conveniently on time before a bandwagon against me is started.

Firstly, this is my usual way of playing (for those few games I play). It gets me to mid game most of the time until I'm lynched for various reasons but basically because I'm not vocal enough. I believe I've only been killed once in about 10 games. My strategy is one more born from my RL then any actual strategy behind it. I just have the time to look at the site once a day, I'm just glad if I've been able to read all the new information each time I log in.

Secondly, my conveniently timed posts can be explained by me being in the same time zone as Andres (in the same country even). When I find time to read and post it means that probably Andres also has that time. Hence I can give my input at a good time.

Thirdly, I've been giving some content in my posts. Atleast I always give a reason when I post and as far as I can tell haven't bandwagoned (well maybe you can call Seon a bandwagon but at that time it was Seon against TheStranger).

I believe there are better targets for your anti-lurker policy than me.

    Self-preservation how?

Renata's pretty much a better player to me; you're paying her a disrespect by tarring her with a similar brush to me.
    How out of self-preservation?
The 'bond' between the female players here was partly the reason why you got elected (that and the lack of a serious contender). You reaffirmed that bond by proposing a candidate for the Naib election from that small club AND revealing that you kept them safe from night kills. Surely you can see that you'll be protected from a night kill at least once and if this chain continues even multiple times. And so you acted out of self-preservation. Quod erat demonstrandum

I'm not saying that Renata is a bad chioce for a Naib. I'm not even saying that you did a bad job as Naib. I'm only saying that, in my eyes, you did nothing extraordinary thus you have no more authority than me over who's going to be the next Naib. Nothing personal, I just want to prevent this game getting railroaded from the beginning and that getting the daggers killed in the end.

    Night 4 - Conclusion

Sasaki Kojiro was sitting in his hotel room, burning copies of Miyamoto Mushashi’s “The Book of Five Rings”, his favourite hobby.

While he was enjoying the heat, he heard the noise of something being thrown against his window.

He carefully stood up and with one sudden movement, opened the window. He saw nothing.

When closing the window, he noticed a package on the balcony. He walked over to the package and opened it.

It was a copy of “The Book of Five Rings”.

“WAAAAA!” Sasaki said, and he stormed back into his room. “Must burn!”

He threw the book in the fireplace and calmed down.

What strange people, these inhabitants of Granada, throwing idiotic books against peoples’ windows.

Remembering that he had left his window open, he stood up to close it, when he saw a dark cloaked figure standing on his balcony. The figure had a bokken in his hand.

Sasaki charged, but the attacker simply stepped aside, jumped into the hotelroom and closed the bulletproof unbreakable window, leaving Sasaki standing outside on the balcony.

The dark cloaked figure placed an hourglass in Sasaki’s sight and then walked further into the room.

“Hmmm, I guess we’ll fight our duel once all the sand has run to the bottom bulb.”

Sasaki waited patiently until all the sand was in the bottom bulb. At that moment, he stood up and drew his katana.

The dark cloaked figure didn’t show up.

Sasaki grew very impatient and started running circles on his balcony.

“Why does it take so long? This is rude!”

Suddenly, the figure appeared behind the window and walked towards the hourglass to turn it around again. The cloaked person disappeared.

Barely resisting the temptation to start yelling out his frustration, Sasaki sat down and watched the hourglass. He would have attempted to break his own window, but it was a special, bulletproof window, unbreakable, so he had no choice but to wait.

And again, the dark cloaked figure didn’t show up on time.

Sasaki started to hit the window with his fists in a fruitless attempt to get in the hotelroom to start the duel.

Suddenly, the dark cloaked figure appeared and turned the hourglass again.

Sasaki really went mad and started to punch and kick on the unbreakable window, screaming obscenities like "Heineken", "Amstel" and "Crystal Alken".

The dark cloaked figure appeared again and Sasaki could hear him laughing.

With a sudden movement, the assassin opened the window and Sasaki, who was still punching with all his strenght, stumbled forward and fell on his forehead.

The dark cloaked figure simply hit Sasaki with the bokken, causing a severe skull infraction. A second blow broke his neck.

Bursting out in laughter, the dark cloaked figure left the scene, but not before leaving a copy of “The Book of Five Rings” on Sasaki's body.

Yaseikhaan opened his eighteenth bottle of beer. What else was there to do when you were forced to stay in your hotel room.

He stumbled around a bit and drank out the bottle. He walked to the refrigerator only to see that it was empty.

"Mmm...", 'khaan said and he started to think, which wasn't an easy task, given his condition.

"'tis an emerzenfy, so I'm allowed to get ou... ffff," 'khaan spit a few times on the floor, "to get out. Emergenzy, yes."

He walked over to the closet were he kept his equipment and dressed for the night.

The Guardia Civil would certainly have arrested him in this condition, if it weren't for a person standing in the shadows of a narrow alley.

The person stept forward, blocking 'khaans' path.

"Out of my way!" 'khaan yelled. "Zis is an emervenfy!"

    The person kept silent.

"You're dead!" 'khaan yelled. "I'm a pampire vunter!"

'khaan drew his toothbrush. He looked at the object in amazement and started to laugh.

"Hahahahaha! A toothbrush! What was I'm going zo voo with a toothbrssssh," he stumbled and collapsed on the floor.

Rolling over the floor he kept laughing, staring at the toothbrush in his hand.

After a couple of minutes he came to his senses and saw that the dark figure was still watching him.

"Hmmm. Yes." 'khaan said, and he stood up.

Slowly, he drew one of his daggers and he crawled forwards towards the dark figure.

The figure stepped aside, waving with his cloak and yelled "Olé!"

'khaan looked at the figure. "You phtink you're funny, eh? Toothbrush funny, olé not funny. Poor bulls getting killed!" 'khaan said angry and he "attacked" again.

The figure made the same movement saying "Olé" again.

'khaan stared at him, a troubled expression on his face.

"Poor bulls!" he yelled and he started to cry uncontrollable, letting his dagger slip out of his hands, on the floor.

"Boohoohooo! They kill bulls! Poor bulls! Evil men! Savages! Boohoohooo! Why am I so drunk?"

The dark figure stepped forward, wielding a wooden club.

The killer quickly hit the crying vampire hunter on the head, unsheeted a sword and decapacitated the man with 6 names.

    Day 5

The new Naib watched how the daggers arrived in the Generalife.

When all were present, Renata stood up from her comfortable chair and immediately addressed the crowd.

"We lost two of our finest men last night. Our brother 'khaan apparently ignored the advice to stay in his hotel and got killed in a dark alley. Rumour has it that he was drunk. Mister Kojiro was killed in his hotel room, holding his favourite book in his hands."

"Let's try to find the vampire among us, shall we?"

I suggest starting with TheFlax, though several good candidates have been mentioned in private. It's just too much of a coincidence that he mentioned Sasaki Kojiro to me as a suspect earlier today. Especially given Niklas did the same exact thing to me as mafia in Star Wars, the night he killed Beskar.

Let's start by lynching GH. His excuse is just as valid for a mafioso as it is for a townie, and the fact that he went out of his way to give it says something.

What I said was that I thought Sasaki was less present than usual and that was placed mostly as an observation. I don't follow the logic of even talking about him if I was behind his death, why would I link myself to him if I knew he was going to die.

My main suspect as I told you is White_Eyes, based purely on a feeling I have. While I'm at it, Vote: White_Eyes.

    @ Sasaki -- Agreed.

@ TheFlax -- The point I'm making is that, some couple of hours before Beskar turned up dead of Force Destruction in the Sith mafia, Niklas came to chat with me, and during that chat somehow contrived to make it clear that he was still suspicious of Beskar, even (IIRC) adding on a few new details to the case. He did this so that I would think he didn't know that Beskar was about to go smashing through the hull of a spaceship. But of course he did.

I asked you who your suspects were earlier; you said you thought Sasaki was a bit not-Sasaki, then went on to mention white_eyes and someone else I can't remember [Captain Blackadder] as your main suspects. Now Sasaki is dead. The same motivation that Niklas had applies to you, if you are mafia.

Odd choice to kill Sasaki so early in the game. Either someone new, or he irked Scienter.
