Well Australian and American culture in terms of the lines (grandfather, father, son etc) are a bit different...

I was going to say Michael/Mike but changed to Rob...

I don't know anyone that goes by their middle name here.

    Never understtod this.

What sort of person calls the child "Mike"?

If you give the child the proper name then they're free to use the petty one and the proper version goes on every legal document, so there's never any confusion.

Though, I'm biased as I loath being refered to as "Phil" though most of my male friends ignore that.

Did you name yourself Fred or change it from Fred to Nick?

I want to rename myself to 'Gomez' as it sounds like the kind of name a Gecko would have.

I did know someone like that once, each firstborn in his family was called Robert so he went by his middle name, Alex since he hated Robert. We found out one day when a substitute teacher called the roll and after that we would often make fun of him and call him by his first name.

On your name, pever. I think it's Nick, since Nicholas is the first "N" name that comes to mind that is still a proper name when short.

To be fair I can think of some names people might want to change.

Like when you're called Peter File, or Ben Dover, or something like that.

Its amazing how much flak you cop as a kid with the name Nick...especially when combined with my surname... Think related.

I had a friend called Nick in school, he copped all sorts of flak due to phallic related nick names. If your surname is fitting, then it must contain "Wil" in it, Wilson, Williams, Willis, something like that.

My name is Alec. No one ever calls me Al *song reference*. I love having a name that cannot really be shortened, and does not rhyme with anything remotely offensive. Nor do I have initials that spell out any form of word.

Unfortunately, there are some people that, when first greeted with, call me Alex. I want to punch those people in the face.

    Yup.

Well, either way, I think Nick is a bit better than Fred, but I'm not sure which one you opted for.

Oh and Gomez Benassi, yes I like the sound of that.

So, do your parents mind? You must have a hell of a lot of things you need to authenticate.
