Incoming enemy fighters!

Prepare for launch.

General Pepper: The remnants of the former Venomian Army have decided to launch an all-out assault on Corneria! Fox, if you can hear me, report back to Corneria at once and help repel the invaders! They're everywhere, Fox!

Fox McCloud: I'm on it, general. But two members of my team are missing.... I'll do my best.

Stage One: Corneria.

Over the capital city, a swarm of Venomian fighters were engaged in a dogfight with Cornerian fighters. The Venomians had painted their ships the same color as the Cornerians, and were emitting a scrambling frequency to prevent identification. It was hard to tell good ships from the bad. Bill Grey, commander of the elite Bulldog and Husky Units, was attempting to discern which ship was which, using his keen eye and extensive experience. Several of the Cornerian fighters were firing at each other in confusion.

Bill Grey: Bulldog Unit 34, that's an allied fighter! Disengage immediately!

He turned and saw another fighter ignore an enemy vessel, and barked orders to that ship.

Bill Grey: Husky Unit 16, that's an enemy fighter. You're authorized to attack!

Even though he was doing a good job identifying allied vessels and enemy vessels, most of the Cornerian fighters were missing their targets. It was so bad, that the Venomian fighters were attacking each other as well.

Bill Grey: All units, hold the perimeter! Hang on guys, help is on the way!

Fox McCloud: You rang?

Bill Grey: Fox, you made it!

Fox McCloud: Just like old times.

Bill Grey: Bulldog Unit, delta formation! Husky Unit, gamma formation! That should help us identify allied ships.

Peppy Hare: They're heading for the Cornerian Capital building! Don't let 'em through!

Bill Grey: Husky Unit, cover the base!

A vortex appeared in the sky, and from this wormhole came a number of enemy missiles with photon warheads.

Peppy Hare: Surprise attack coming from above!

Fox McCloud: Emergency Maneuvers! Get outta there!!!

The capital building of the Cornerian government was destroyed by enemy missiles. In the explosion, many Cornerian fighters and several Venomian fighters were incinerated. The Venomian fighters disengaged from the battle, leaving orbit of Corneria itself and disappearing into the nearby asteroid field. Fox, Bill, and Peppy were able to escape from the blast.

Peppy Hare: Doggone it!

Fox McCloud: We'll find whoever did this, and we'll make them pay for it.

Bill Grey: I'm counting on you Fox. Go do us proud.

Fox McCloud: I'll do my best.

MISSION FAILED.

If you wish to skip the fancy storytelling, music, images, and videos, that is fine. As long as you give the game your best shot during the game itself, you can ignore the writeups if you wish. Someone can even give you the gist of it.

Night Phase One

Meteo Asteroid Field

pevergreen was piloting his starfighter through the Meteo asteroid field, attempting to get to the planet Fortuna, on the other side. He was looking forward to making repairs on his ship and getting a hot meal after the disastrous battle on Corneria. His starfighter zipped easily between the dangerous asteroids at speeds that would boggle the mind of the average Cornerian. He did his usual status report.

"pevergreen here. No problems."

Suddenly, his communications system went haywire. His comm signal was being jammed by an unknown source. Cold sweat began to pool down his back, and his hands began to tense up. He looked at his sensor panel, and nothing showed up on the screen.

"Fortuna base, come in! Allied craft, please respond....... Do you copy? EMERGENCY MANEUVERS!!!"

Suddenly, from behind a large asteroid, pevergreen spotted a vessel approaching from the rear. Brilliant red plasma streaked past pever's ship. Reacting instinctively, pevergreen executed a barrel roll to try to avoid being hit. Then he swerved behind the nearest asteroid and attempted to do a vertical loop to evade his attacker. However, the unknown attacker reversed thrusters and waited for pevergreen to come out of the vertical loop. Now pevergreen was right in its sights.

"I've got you now...."

Red plasma struck pevergreen's engines and his starfighter stalled. The reactor exploded, sending pevergreen adrift. A second blast ripped away the entire starboard half of pevergreen's vessel. All pevergreen could do was smash his instrument panels with his fists in frustration and panic. Then he looked up and saw a bright burst of plasma headed straight for his cockpit.

"NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!"

Sector Y

Death is Yonder piloted his craft through the Sector Y nebula, on his way toward the base on Planet Katina. There was heavy ion storm activity which required skillful piloting and heavy shielding in order to avoid being damaged. Fortunately Death is Yonder had both of those things in ample supply.

"Katina Base, this is Death is Yonder. I should be arriving in orbit at approximately 0900 hours tomorrow. Do you copy?"

The ion activity greatly increased, and soon a gravitational vortex began to open directly off of his starboard bow. Death is Yonder immediately tried to execute evasive maneuvers, but his engines couldn't overpower a gravity well of this magnitude.

"Katina Base, this is Death is Yonder. I'm being pulled into a gravity well! Mayday, Mayday, all ships in the area, please assist!"

There was nothing Death is Yonder could do. He was soon pulled inside the vortex. The scene inside was indescribable chaos.... there was a vast quantity of space debris. Metal girders, titanium plating, asteroid clusters, and ship debris was being spun around at enormous sub-light speeds. The maelstrom was horrifying to witness... and there was nothing the tiny starfighter could do once it was trapped inside the spinning vortex. Death is Yonder saw a massive metal beam moving in his direction, and there was no time and no way to evade collision.

"AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!"

Odd death, seems like I wasn't targeted by the run-of-the-mill attacker, I mean, no star ship battles like pever, instead a powerful device that opened up a giant gravity well and an inadvertent collision with a metal beam.
