Mark hadn't really enjoyed going shopping, especially on the day before school started after winter break. His mother had insisted. Now sitting in the Honda he regreted even more as the traffic jam blocked up the entire street for twenty five minutes. Looking around, the car wasn't interesting. Neither was the eight cars surrounding his. The sidewalk had no attractive feminines, nor anything of interest. The entire street was boring.
However, slowly at first, the air hummed. The windows of the car rattled. The radio popped and buzzed as it lost the signals. Looking up, hundreds of glowing comets streaked into the atmosphere, and grew in size. Growing, growing, growing until they were Suns. That was the last thought of Mark.
"What are they?"
"Colonel, the invasion has begun" the private reported, the video link buzzing slightly. Around him was the blackened remains of Rhodeville. The ground was blackened, nothing of any size was standing. A dull gray sky above was only a lighter hue than the ground.
"I've seen CNN, Fox, everything private. Anything else of interest there, or would you like to contiune to state the obvious?" Colonel Thaddius Mordecai Rousseau wasn't happy. As special director of the project Prometheus, he wasn't pleased, for the invasion had begun.
The invasion was forecasted after Rosewell. Although the U.S. government had hid it, it occured. More than three spacecraft had been recovered, and the scientists had pieced together the Icarus 1. The first slipspace capable Navy vessel. After that, everything had gone faster. Then the Icarus 2,3,4,5, and 6. Finally the Department of Defense couldn't handle it. So they created the D.E.D, or Department of Extraterrestrial Defense.
The department was in of all places, New York City. An entire city block was the D.E.D. building. Underneath was the only hangar in the world to house a slipspace vessel, fourteen vessels to be exact. Plus three coloning vats, and two planetary particle defense shields.
The aliens were mentally alive. They spoke of the 'Ikukakana' and their strength. They were the Rouyayaya, a race that had defended against the Ikukakana for centuries. Now they were coming to Earth.
Walking around his office, Thaddius played with his rubix cube. He never solved it, just played it. His thick black hair was loose, and curly. He was not muscular, but portrayed strength, and the dragons on his right forearm gave the impression of a teenage rebel. However, he was in his late thirties, and was limping with the pains of a hip nuclear device. If he ran, it didn't impede him. However, when he walked, it caught his leg. The device would fire when his neural impulses sent the message 'They know our secret, die Ikukakana'
Plasma screen televisions covered his walls, and showed the response to the attack. CNN,ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, BBC, everthing.
