Red Fury
1600, Italy
Tommasino covered his eyes from the blinding light, riding his packhorse even further, the surrounding landscape bleak, crows crowing from the dead, horrible trees. The bad dirt road crackling under his horses hooves. There was smoke on the bleary horizon, a good sign, life was around this area
Tommasino had not seen any one for at least two full days, and the village he was looking for was not where it was located on his old map. But with the sign of the smoke, it meant there must be a tavern near by, good enough to recover his spirits for the next day, it was now around mid-day, the hottest part of the day, the Italian sun shining directly onto him. The sweat poured off him, make him wet. He couldn’t wait for the good water to pour in to his mouth, already imagining it in his mouth, he sped up his horse. Something flashed in the surrounding trees, moving like a shadow, what was it; it couldn’t be bandits, could it? There was no sign of life on the roads all round, and another fact was that the trees were dead, leafless and rotten, there was no where to hide. It was probably just a mirage from lack of water. Tommasino kept on walking, caring about nothing around him, once again his thoughts on water. The once again the shadow flashed, but on his other side. Now he was seriously scared, it wasn’t bandits, and then what could it be? He spurred on his horse, racing to the town, the air got thicker, a cloud of smoke moved in. He could not see anything as the heavy depressing fog moved in. He started coughing, something smelt like a fire, Tommasino’s eyes started watering, the fog then started to fade, a patter of feet could be heard around him, he must be at the town, but where were they?
“Hello!? Anybody?” He yelled, the patter of feet kept going, and voices could be heard, but as if very far away. Then something hit him. Hard. He fell off his horse, the horse neighing with terror, not his horse, he reached out for his horse, ready to hop back on, and there was nothing there. Now seriously horrified, he ran forward. And the mist lifted off. And Tommasino gasped, there in front of him was everything he had thought impossible. The village was defiantly there before, but it had been mysteriously been blown away, by the looks of it. Only single bits of wood remained, ash covered the ground like snow. The smoke came from several fires, all burning on the remains of what looked like human bodies, who could have possibly done this? The village was just gone. No blood, no buildings and no signs of battle. It was something Tommasino has never seen before; it was amazing, but scary. He trudged on, sulking over the loss of his horse, and looked behind him at the mist, it was gone. It was seriously freaky now, and he was chilled to the bone, this Scary village just gone like some sort of tornado hit it, and the weird mist which disappeared when he had gone through it? And now he remembered, the shadow, these things linked coincidentally together and he was horrified. It was time to get to the next village. He walked out, when the shadow flashed, what was it this time?
“Who are you?” yelled out Tommasino, no one replied, he seemed relieved no one had replied, and kept on walking, when he heard snarl, he stopped. Scared. What was that? He slowly turned around, to find him self face-to-face with the creature f his nightmares, he looked in shock, what was the thing? It was twisted and red, and red flaming eyes and it had a tail.
“Hello, Tommasino, I have been told interesting facts, like for one, you have been chosen by the select few” said the thing, Tommasino didn’t have a clue what the thing was talking about, and backed away slowly.
“Did you do this?” asked Tommasino, pointing at the surrounding village,
“Yes I did, and I will finish it up when we are, done” said the thing. The thing poked at finger at Tommasino’s chest, and Tommasino was frightened,
“Who do you join, the Heavnic Forces, or us?” said the thing, Tommasino didn’t know what he was talking about once again, and also didn’t know what to say. His ears and eyes hurt from the surrounding fires.
“Sorry, but I don’t know what you are talking about” said Tommasino, and the thing stepped back, and walked away, all of a sudden, he disappeared. Tommasino was mystified. That, supposed animal, had just disappeared right there, and he had a tail, Tommasino had so many questions. But shrugged in his mind and started walking away, when a mad cackling came from nearby. He looked around, there in the shadow of the fire, stood a hooded man, a black cloak and black hood, and fro what Tommasino could see, no eyes. The man fingered a red knife in his hands, and was laughing. “Hi, um, how did you just get there?” said Tommasino,
“Stupid Humans, I am no man, I am a Shadow Lurker, and have been sent… by people, as you have a message” said the Shadow Lurker. Tommasino nodded his curiosity on full run now.
“You have refused to join my leader, and shall suffer the consequences” said the Shadow lurker. He raised his hand, and threw his Red Knife, which blurred as it flew through the air. Tommasino put up his arm for protection, an automatic reaction, but the knife hit him in the belly, but he was sure it was heading for his head, the pain shot from head to toe, and he screamed din pain, but managed to mutter a few words,
“Who…who...i-is your … l-leader?” muttered Tommasino, but the Shadow lurker was muttering something as well, and Tommasino caught the last few words,
“And bring down upon him, the ashes of our dammed” and the shadow Lurker pointed at Tommasino with the last few words, and Tommasino screamed in even more pain, as he burst on fire.
