    Red Fury

    1600, Italy

Tommasino covered his eyes from the blinding light, riding his packhorse even further, the surrounding landscape bleak, crows crowing from the dead, horrible trees. The bad dirt road crackling under his horses hooves. There was smoke on the bleary horizon, a good sign, life was around this area

Tommasino had not seen any one for at least two full days, and the village he was looking for was not where it was located on his old map. But with the sign of the smoke, it meant there must be a tavern near by, good enough to recover his spirits for the next day, it was now around mid-day, the hottest part of the day, the Italian sun shining directly onto him. The sweat poured off him, make him wet. He couldn’t wait for the good water to pour in to his mouth, already imagining it in his mouth, he sped up his horse. Something flashed in the surrounding trees, moving like a shadow, what was it; it couldn’t be bandits, could it? There was no sign of life on the roads all round, and another fact was that the trees were dead, leafless and rotten, there was no where to hide. It was probably just a mirage from lack of water. Tommasino kept on walking, caring about nothing around him, once again his thoughts on water. The once again the shadow flashed, but on his other side. Now he was seriously scared, it wasn’t bandits, and then what could it be? He spurred on his horse, racing to the town, the air got thicker, a cloud of smoke moved in. He could not see anything as the heavy depressing fog moved in. He started coughing, something smelt like a fire, Tommasino’s eyes started watering, the fog then started to fade, a patter of feet could be heard around him, he must be at the town, but where were they?
“Hello!? Anybody?” He yelled, the patter of feet kept going, and voices could be heard, but as if very far away. Then something hit him. Hard. He fell off his horse, the horse neighing with terror, not his horse, he reached out for his horse, ready to hop back on, and there was nothing there. Now seriously horrified, he ran forward. And the mist lifted off. And Tommasino gasped, there in front of him was everything he had thought impossible. The village was defiantly there before, but it had been mysteriously been blown away, by the looks of it. Only single bits of wood remained, ash covered the ground like snow. The smoke came from several fires, all burning on the remains of what looked like human bodies, who could have possibly done this? The village was just gone. No blood, no buildings and no signs of battle. It was something Tommasino has never seen before; it was amazing, but scary. He trudged on, sulking over the loss of his horse, and looked behind him at the mist, it was gone. It was seriously freaky now, and he was chilled to the bone, this Scary village just gone like some sort of tornado hit it, and the weird mist which disappeared when he had gone through it? And now he remembered, the shadow, these things linked coincidentally together and he was horrified. It was time to get to the next village. He walked out, when the shadow flashed, what was it this time?
“Who are you?” yelled out Tommasino, no one replied, he seemed relieved no one had replied, and kept on walking, when he heard snarl, he stopped. Scared. What was that? He slowly turned around, to find him self face-to-face with the creature f his nightmares, he looked in shock, what was the thing? It was twisted and red, and red flaming eyes and it had a tail.
“Hello, Tommasino, I have been told interesting facts, like for one, you have been chosen by the select few” said the thing, Tommasino didn’t have a clue what the thing was talking about, and backed away slowly.
“Did you do this?” asked Tommasino, pointing at the surrounding village,
“Yes I did, and I will finish it up when we are, done” said the thing. The thing poked at finger at Tommasino’s chest, and Tommasino was frightened,
“Who do you join, the Heavnic Forces, or us?” said the thing, Tommasino didn’t know what he was talking about once again, and also didn’t know what to say. His ears and eyes hurt from the surrounding fires.
“Sorry, but I don’t know what you are talking about” said Tommasino, and the thing stepped back, and walked away, all of a sudden, he disappeared. Tommasino was mystified. That, supposed animal, had just disappeared right there, and he had a tail, Tommasino had so many questions. But shrugged in his mind and started walking away, when a mad cackling came from nearby. He looked around, there in the shadow of the fire, stood a hooded man, a black cloak and black hood, and fro what Tommasino could see, no eyes. The man fingered a red knife in his hands, and was laughing. “Hi, um, how did you just get there?” said Tommasino,
“Stupid Humans, I am no man, I am a Shadow Lurker, and have been sent… by people, as you have a message” said the Shadow Lurker. Tommasino nodded his curiosity on full run now.
“You have refused to join my leader, and shall suffer the consequences” said the Shadow lurker. He raised his hand, and threw his Red Knife, which blurred as it flew through the air. Tommasino put up his arm for protection, an automatic reaction, but the knife hit him in the belly, but he was sure it was heading for his head, the pain shot from head to toe, and he screamed din pain, but managed to mutter a few words,
“Who…who...i-is your … l-leader?” muttered Tommasino, but the Shadow lurker was muttering something as well, and Tommasino caught the last few words,
“And bring down upon him, the ashes of our dammed” and the shadow Lurker pointed at Tommasino with the last few words, and Tommasino screamed in even more pain, as he burst on fire.

    Chapter 1

    Siberian Mountains, 1986

Jack jumped over the couch, landing on the soft mattress of it, the T.V buzzing away, the cool air of the Siberian Mountains flowing through the house, it was minus 4 degrees, and the snow had blocked them in. It was freezing inside, and in some spots, the snow was getting in. Basically, they were stuck, but the power was still running. They had a two-storey house, and 3 bedrooms, one for Jack’s parents, one for jack and another for his Big Brother, Phil, Jack looked at the T.V, there was some story on the mountains. It down right boring, and was about to leave, when the weather forecast came on.
“Hey! The weathers on!” jack yelled up stairs, there was the thud of feet as everyone came downstairs, and bolted over to the couch. The bad music of the weather forecast came on.
“To day we have had an bad snowstorm ripping through the mountains, over the Eastern Part of the Siberias” said the Weather man, Phil snorted,
“Well that’s obvious” There Mum made shushing noises and pointed back at the T.V,
“And we over at the Western Siberia’s it is a very different story, we do not know what to believe but it is reported to be over 20 degrees around the area, but no one has come out, we will hopefully report later on with more info on this strange event, I hope you enjoy your day” finished off the Weather Man, and the music started again,
‘Did I just hear right?” said there Dad, Phil nodded,
“It hasn’t been 26 degrees here for years” said jack, it was impossible, the weather was so high,
“Why couldn’t we be over at the Western Siberia’s?” asked Phil, no one answered, but Jack also wanted an answer to that, and was going to ask the question again, when his Dad trudged off outside to clear off snow, and his Mum went up stairs. Jack and Phil looked at each other, and shrugged. They were obviously keeping something to themselves. But it was not anything to worry about.
Phil went off to help there dad, and probably to badger him even more, and jack flicked over the channels, seeing what else was on.
There was a small program on all the lost mountain climbers, and jack watched it casually, until he started drowsing, and felt himself going to sleep, the snow kept hitting the windows, the T.V going. He heard a change of music, and barely noted that the program had changed. When he heard something from the T.V, it was an report on 12 reporters, who had just disappeared on the main road.
‘The main road? But someone would’ve seen if a tornado took them’ thought jack, and is thoughts were right, it was impossible to get lost on the main road, as it was the busiest road in the Siberian Mountains, and one of the only roads around. He got up and went upstairs, disturbed by this announcement, but wanted some sleep. He got to his bedroom and collapsed on his bed, and looked out of his bedroom window. A nice sky, with clouds of Snow moving across it. He fell into a deep sleep, on his comforting bed. He slept for what felt like hours, and finally stirred. It was now later in the afternoon, he got up and changed into something else, and sat on his bed again, fiddling with a hole in his bedcover, thinking of something else to do. Maybe go outside? He got up and looked out the window, looking at the snow covered trees, his father and brother back inside. He looked at the sky, it was now a bit redder, probably from the sun setting. He looked away, and opened the door, then went down stairs, his dad and brother were watching T’V, some action show on, and his Mum was in the kitchen, and by the smell of potatoes coming from the kitchen, she was cooking dinner. He smelt the air again, sucking in the lovely smell. His dad looked around,
“Finally, your up, bit of news coming from inner mountains” said his dad, jack nodded and sat down, still quite tired, but interested in whatever news he was to receive,
“Well, it is something quite disturbing, and I think of you old enough to know, but the reporters were found” said jacks Dad,
“Uh, that’s good, where were they, and what happened?” said jack, not really concentrating on the subject,
“Well, they were, uh… found, dead, dumped” said his dad, jack looked up, now fully awake after this bit of news,
“Who would do such dreadful stuff?” said jack, wondering why someone would kill them.
“That’s the thing, they have suffered serious burns, and look like they have been tossed” said his Father, Jack pondered over this, when Phil suddenly spoke up.
“But how could someone get 12 people over 50 kms in two hours? With no roads, its impossible” said Phil, dad shook his head,
“its not impossible, because it just happened”
“it sounds supernatural” a silence hung in the air after that remark, each of them thinking on it,
“Don’t speak such nonsense jack, there is no such thing as the supernatural” said dad, and at that point mum came bustling out of the kitchen, plate full of dinner in her hands, Phil and Jack raced over, ready for dinner when there Mum put an hand out to stop them,
“Uh, well to earn this, you have to go collect wood for the fire” she said with a smile, at once Jack and Phil protested, there Mum shook her head. Shooing them away with her hands, they gave up and stormed out of the house, slamming the door, they headed to the woods. Not talking, Jack felt a tiny bit scared after what happened to the reporters. They collected wood, and were far away from the house. Jack saw an very good piece of wood, and raced over to get it, thinking of dinner, when he tripped, blood in his mouth, Phil laughed out aloud,
“Serves you right for running” he laughed, jack was infuriated, and walked off, angry at Phil, what did he know” He probably hasn’t even cut his knee his whole life, let alone his lip. All of a sudden the ground shook, Jack grabbed a tree for support, what ever that was, it could’ve started an avalanche on mountains like these. He sprinted back to where he left Phil, and found him standing there, looking in shock at the sky. And was like he had been electrified, he just stood there. Jack walked up to him, and looked at where was looking, and looked back at Phil,
“What ya looking at?” asked jack,
Phil pointed at the sky, mouth open, when Jack saw what he was looking at. Instead of normal white, fluffy clouds, there was dark, menacing red clouds, with what looked like lightning coming from the clouds, but it was red. Jack wasn’t as stunned,
“This is just like at the movies!” said jack in awe,
“We have to get back to the house”
    “Why?”
“Those clouds, just, you’ll know later” said Phil, and with that he ran off in the direction of the house, Jack raced after him, struggling to keep up. They crashed through there surroundings, when they reached the house. It looked okay, Phil raced in, and Jack came in after him. The house was in a mess. The floor was strewn with all there kitchen stuff, these was a little fire burning. Jack carefully tipsy toed his way towards the lounge room, when there was a sudden bang, and the roof shook. Jack stuck his head through the door, the couch was tipped over, the television destroyed, an there lovely dinner all over the ground. Phil came out, completely stunned, and went up stairs. Jack followed, jacks bedroom door was ripped off, and there was a massive hole in Phil’s bedroom roof. But there parents bedroom door was open an little. He looked through the crack. His mum was son the floor, but there was an cloaked hooded man, wearing black, holding his dad by the throat.
“Where are they?” whispered the cloaked man, his dad gasped for air,
“I don’t know who you’re talking about?” said his dad, the man tightened his grip.
“You know who I am talking about, the next generation” whispered the man again, the cloaked man dropped Jacks dad to the floor and stopped, standing still. He then whipped around looking straight at Jack and Phil, and he pointed. When jacks dad pointed his palm at the man, and an powerful blast of wind issued from his hand, blasting the man, and making an hole in the room, an loud bang issued. The cloaked man was thrown out the hole, and landed in the surrounding forest, there dad ran over to jack and Phil, and pressed an sheet of paper into there hands, and whispered,
“Good-bye my sons, I want you to run out of the Siberia’s, run! I have loved you my whole life, and remember, I shall always love you, and my soul will always be part of yours, now run my sons!” jack started crying, and Phil pulled him, there dad following, they raced downstairs, and out the front door, and there dad pushed them away.
“Now run! Run so they never find you!”
They ran, when the ground shook even more times, they reached the road, when they heard a horrible shrieking, an and an tremendous bang, the ground heaved. Jack sobbing, Phil pulled himaway, and they moved along the road, heading for the nearest village,
“What does the note say?” sobbed jack, Phil looked at it,
“We are to go out of the Siberias, heading West, and find an small village called Rankovick, and speak to an old man, called Frank Ulmer” jack nodded, and they trudged on, there was an great adventure ahead of them, and they had no idea what was ahead of them.

    Chapter 2 of Red Fury

They kept walking, Jack exhausted from the days results. He then took notice of there wondrous surroundings, they were next to an Mountain, snow covered it like Fairy Floss. On there other side was the white Slopes, and the White Forest, and beyond. They were walking on a snow-covered road, the snow had stopped falling, and it was heating up very fast, the snow melting like Ice-Cream in the Midday sun. Jack was thankful that the cloaked man was behind them, away from them, the man had an, strange, un-safe feeling about him.

“Why don’t we try to get someone to come? Flares? Stop some cars?” asked Jack, Phil kept walking, then shook his head,
“We don’t even have flares, and there is no cars along this road. Anyway, it would be highly dangerous to do that” said Phil,
    “Why?” asked Jack,
“That cloaked man, he was looking for us” said Phil, this was an startling bit of news to jack, and it took some time for him to think of what he was going to say next,
“And you know how?” asked jack,
“I don’t but it is just the feeling, they were looking for some people, and it just feels like it should be, us.” Said Phil, jack understood, he felt like he knew the cloaked man before, like he had seen him before, but, he hadn’t. Not of what he could remember.

They kept walking, sucking in the mountain air. To think that 4 hours ago jack was waking up from an nap, looking at the clear blue sky. Now he was exhausted, looking at the menacing red sky. He looked up, studying the sky and air. Without looking down, he spoke.
“Why do you think the skies like that?” asked Jack,
“I don’t know, I never knew the sky could go red like that, unless there was fire in the clouds, or there was red smoke” said Phil, Jack was going to ask if he saw any smoke, when there was a small humming. It didn’t feel safe to be on the road, and jack felt like they should get off. At once.
“I think we should get off the road” said Jack, Phil nodded, and the jogged into the cover of the trees. A short while later two cars came racing around the corner, flicking up snow, and cutting the corners close. They raced past, and jack could continue to hear and see them race off to the other end of the mountain. They then came out and continued walking, until the noise was far behind them. They found a good spot and slept for the night, thinking of the days events. It took them two weeks to cover the Siberian Mountains. Over the time they became tougher as they lived with in nature. Eating wild berries, at one time Phil vomited as they ate a very wild one, which had gone sour. They ran into now one, completely ignoring villages, the village they were heading to was 10 km’s outside of Siberian mountains, in the plains. There it was much warmer, and more food. Hopefully they had lost the Cloaked mans tracks, and they sometimes doubled back to make sure. Then one day, they went over another hill, and into the plains of Siberia. Jack was amazed by it. Here was Eastern Russia, and villages dotted here and there, roads were more often, and there was a slight humming from the nearby main road. There green lush plains, the snowy mountains behind them.
“maybe now we could get a car?” said Jack, hope in his stomach, Phil shook his head,
“About another day and we will be there, do not worry” he said, jack wasn’t worried about time, or how long until they got there. It was his stomach which was the problem; He was starving after weeks of eating wild berries and the occasional deer.

They walked down the slope leading to the valley, and trudged through the bush land. The occasional bird chirping away. When finally they encountered human life. They came upon a village, the biggest one Jack had seen. There was over 2000 people in the village it seemed, a massive number in the Siberians. The first person they came upon they asked where the place was.
“Excuse me sir, could you please tell me the name of this place?’ asked Phil, the old man looked at him.
“Rankovick. You boys look fairly rugged and in bad condition, how about you come over to my house and grab something to eat?” asked the old man.
“Oh yes please, we’re star” jack was cut short by the look on Phil’s face.
“We would love to, but we have, business to attend to” said Phil, the old man nodded.
“Well if your ever wanting company or a good talk, my place is down Roona way” said the old man, Where was Roona? Wondered jack, but the old man was gone before he could say anything. Phil walked off, motioning for Jack to follow, and they walked down the streets. There were no roads here, and about 50 cars, all not out yet. Some of the houses were still simple wood, but most were brick and concrete. The streets had signs, and they saw that the local tavern was near by.

They jogged to the tavern. It was quiet inside, and was made of wood. It was two storeys high. Jack and Phil went inside, the bar was nearly empty. Only some late night drinkers were still there, half asleep. They walked up to the bar man, and he looked up from counting the money in the register.
“Could we please have directions to where a Frank Ulmer lives?” asked Phil,
“Uh! Old Frank, he lives down Roona way. Lovely old man, lives by himself. He has lived here for some 30 years. Some people asked why he moved from France, he said he was waiting for something” said the barman, but when he had said down Roona way, Jack and Phil were already out the door. The door slammed shut behind them. And they looked around, where was Roona way? They then noticed a name under the nearest street sign, saying Roona Suburb. They stumbled down the way, and looked around for Frank’s house. There was no sign of the house. They then saw a flash. It came from the nearest alley. Phil ignored it but Jack was worried, he squinted, looking for what it was, when it flashed again. This time someone stepped out from the shadows. It was an cloaked, hooded man, It the cloak and hood were black, it was the man from there house, there hunters! He approached, an red knife sled forward from his arm. And he raised his arm. Jack urgently tugged at Phil’s sleeve, and Phil looked over. He was going to yell out. When an strong hand came from inside an house. And dragged jack and Phil inside. They were trapped! The door was locked. Jack turned around.
    “Oh!” gasped jack.

    Chapter 3
    Broken Water

Jack looked up, and was surprised to see it was the old man, who was peeking out the key hole.
“Looks like he’s gone” said the old man, the old man shuffled into his kitchen,
“I knew they wouldn’t stay long” he said, and he beamed at Jack and Phil. Phil looked like he was not going to say anything, and just stood there. SO jack decided to talk,
“Uh, we have to be going actually” jack just had a wonderful idea,
“Do you know where a Frank Ulmer lives?” asked jack, there was a sparkle of amusement in the old mans eyes,
“Uh, good old Frank. He’s quite a beauty, handsome really” said the old man,
“Uh, that’s nice of you to say, do you know him?”
“Yes, in fact he is a great friend of mine” said the old man; Jack could tell he was not lying by the look in his eyes,
“Great, can we meet him?” said Phil excited, it was the first time he had spoken,
“I’m afraid I didn’t catch you two boy’s names?” said the old man,
“I am Phil, and this is jack” motioned Phil towards jack.
“And your last names?” jack wondered why the old man was curious, people didn’t just hand out there names around the Siberia’s,
“Um, our last names? Well” Phil and jack glanced at each other,
“Our parents never told us” said jack, looking at his feet in embarrassment.
“I thought so” said the old man, “because your Parents lived in the Siberia’s, and came from America” said the old man, Jack looked up in amazement, how did he know? Then he realized. It was kind of obvious,
“And you two just got over the cold, attend home school and love potatoes” said the old man with an smile, this time both Jack and Phil looked up, How’d he know they liked potatoes, the old man had an smile which split across his face, making jack feel better.
“Because I am Frank Ulmer” said the old man, relief flooded through jack, there little adventure was over, now they could return to Siberia’s or America! Phil handed the message which there dad had given jack and Phil to Frank, and walked over and sat down on one of the kitchen chairs. Franks eyes scanned over the message, over and over. He then walked into his bedroom, and they heard a good deal of noise. Jack and Phil looked at each other mystified, and peeked into the bedroom. Frank had a suitcase out, no two suitcases out, and was packing stuff which looked like the contents of his cupboard, and then Frank rushed away and got stuff from his draws. Jack and Phil quickly withdrew to where they were before, and Frank came out.
“We’re leaving tomorrow night, all of us” he said with a stern look at Phil, Who was about to protest. Jack was tired after two weeks of sleeping on the ground, and walked into Frank’s bedroom, where there was a mattress layer out for him, he fell asleep at once.
    **********

Jack woke up with a yawn, noticing how warm it was, and temporarily didn’t know where he was. Then he remembered they were in Rankovick. He got up, stretching his muscles, which groaned in protest. Jack trudged out into the kitchen, ruffling his hair, to find Frank and Phil sitting there, and deep in conversation.

“So it’s definitely us, right?” asked Phil, Jack didn’t have a clue what they were talking about, Frank nodded. The look on Phil’s face was amazing, and his eyes flickered slightly over to Jack.
“Morning” muttered Phil, Frank leaned back, watching Jack. Then Frank got up and walked to the door,
“I’ll be back soon, no causing trouble, and don’t leave the house!’ said Frank sternly. Jack nodded, as did Phil.
“Good” And Frank creaked open the door, and the sunlight poured in, the buzz of talk coming in from the street. There were people badgering Merchants for more stuff, traveling in packs, one had an cute dog, but these scenes were cut off as Frank snapped shut the door. Phil sat down next to Jack, and they sat in silence for minutes,
‘Why isn’t he speaking?’ thought Jack, he looked over.
Phil’s head was leaning back, looking at the roof, his eyes closed. A peaceful expression his face as he snored slightly, deep asleep. Jack chuckled and closed his eyes, absorbing the peace and quiet of the house, the slight buzz as people talked outside. Then the door creaked open, and sunlight once again poured inside. Jack opened his eyes and looked over, it was Frank. He was holding several bags of food, murmuring to himself,
“Oi! Wake up!” said Frank, Phil snorted a same time as he said that, Franks face twisted into a smile. He pulled out a bucket from the kitchen cupboard and filled it with water. Jack snuck away, dreading when Phil would wake and see Jack at once, Frank tossed the water onto Phil, he jumped like he’d been shot, and spat out some water. Soaking wet, he wiped his eyes. Jack roared with laughter, as did Frank.
“Never…do…that...again, an alarm clock better” grunted Phil; he stormed off, into the bathroom to dry himself. Jack stood where he was, watching the bathroom door so he could start laughing at Phil again, savoring the moment of when he finally got his brother. Phil appeared, jack was about to start teasing him when he felt a giant splash, and massive amount of water went over him, going down his back and making him shiver. Cold as, jack turned around in shock. Standing behind him with two buckets was Frank, grinning.
“We’re not all immortal to water” he said grinning; now it was Phil’s time to laugh, and he laughed hard. Jack also spat out water, and walked forward slightly. He snatched the bucket out of Franks hand, and filled it with water, then tossed the whole bucket at frank. With lightening reflexes Frank kicked the bucket out the window, which shattered, glass throwing it self over the floor, but Frank couldn’t avoid the water, which splashed over him. Frank grinned,
“ya caught me there. But you have wrecked my house” he said, waving his hand over the mess. But Frank suddenly pointed at Jack, and then Phil.
“You have better get some sleep, our trips this afternoon, and we will be up all night” ordered Frank, jack obeyed and went into Franks bedroom, where he collapsed onto the mattress on the floor, Phil came in a while later, also collapsing on the bed next to Jack. Phil fell asleep at once; jack was amazed he could get to sleep so fast. Jack heard muffled swearing from the kitchen, and slowly lifted himself off the mattress, curiosity going, jack got up and creped over to the door, where he could spy on Frank without being seen. Frank had a cloth, and was trying to soak up all the water, and get the pieces of glass; he stood up, rubbing his back. A look of frustration went over Franks face, and he threw the cloth away.
“I’ll do it the easy way” muttered Frank; he pointed at the water, jack stood stunned, the water slowly raised to his finger, forming a small sphere. Jack was amazed, how’d he do that? Then slowly Frank clicked his fingers and the water disappeared, moments later Jack heard a thunderclap outside, and it started raining. These powers seemed supernatural, was Frank human?
‘It’s probably just a coincidence, nothing to worry about’ thought jack, calming himself. That was until Frank pointed at the glass, and it flew into the window, forming an window again. This time jack was fearful, maybe Frank was the robed man from there house, and he was undercover? Jack went over it in hs mind, but was startled when he saw Frank heading towards the bedroom, jack sprinted over to his bed, fear running through him, and jumped into his bed, pretending to be asleep, Frank came inside, and layed down on the bigger bed, minutes later small snores came from the bed. Jack couldn’t sleep with the combined snores of Frank and Phil, but managed to doze off.

The next chapter may even come today!the next chapter shall be short, but not too short.

I am happy people are enjoying this story, there are main reasons I love writing, 1. is that its your world, you shape how you want, make your character do what you want it to do, and number 2. is the people who read it, I love hearing Feedbac for my stories, good or neutral and advice.

    Chapter 4
    The Escape

Jack woke up, the moon was glaring rudely through the windows, there was no wind. Phil was slightly snoring still, but Frank wasn’t in his bed. Jack got up slowly, when he remembered how Frank had powers.
‘Maybe he already knows I was going to wake now’ thought Jack, and he shivered at the thought. Jack slowly crept to the bedroom door, fear swelling in him for every step. He waited by the door, dreading to find what was behind it. And jack looked. Nothing, the kitchen was completely empty, nothing n the benches, table. Jack walked over to the cupboard, and peered inside casually. Nothing, all food gone, all equipment gone. There was a loud cluttering from inside the bathroom, the moon still shining through the windows, jack walked up to the bathroom door, swelling courage inside him, he opened the door. Frank was frantically shoving stuff in, he looked up in shock as the door opened, and when he saw it was Jack put a hand to his heart.
“You frightened me jack” whispered Frank, sounding alert. There was a very loud snore from Phil, and Frank leaned closer to jack,
“Wake up your brother, tell him to shut up!’ said Frank urgently, Jack crept over to Phil, grabbed a pillow and whacked him over the head,
“Shut Up!” said jack, Phil jerked up, looking around,
“I didn’t do it!’ oh…” he realized he was in Rankovick.
Frank came rushing out of the bathroom, and saw jack and Phil; he pressed his finger against his hand,

    Stay Quiet” whispered Frank,
“Why do we have to be so quiet?’ whispered jack, Phil nodding in agreement.
“Because there prowling the streets” whispered Frank,
    “Who?” asked Phil,
“A Shadow lurker, and …and” Frank shivered,
    “A Wholmer”
    “A what!?”
“A Wholmer!” whispered Frank urgently, a look of fear in his eye,
“I’ll tell you later” jack and Phil packed all there stuff; there wasn’t a lot, and they got ready to leave. Frank walked up to the door, and peeked through the keyhole. Still looking through key hole, and waved jack and Phil forward and they came, and then Frank opened the door slightly, he sprinted into the darkness of the night. But the night was not ad dark as most nights, as the moon was at its fullest. Phil quickly followed; jack got ready to go, looked around, and scooted after them. Frank and Phil were waiting in an alleyway, looked around the curb,
“Good” muttered Frank, then he ran down the street, looking around wildly, he truly looked like an old man, then something happened which made Jacks heart beat harder . Something jumped forward from the shadows, but Phil pushed jack back, so he couldn’t see. There was an tremendous roaring, and all the lights in the village seemed to switch on at once, there was a buzz as the whole village awoke, all scared in there beds, whispering to one another, “Did you hear that?” ; What ever the thing was it disappeared soon after, and Frank was left lying in the middle of the road. Torchlight’s went on, scanning the street for the source of the noise. There was a slow beat of sirens as Police came, jack looked up in fear, and the police would shoot them, no matter if they had done anything; but for fun. There excuse would be poor; jack raced over to Frank, Phil hot on his heels, and pulled the old man up. Frank got up easier, and joined them running, the suitcases on there shoulders, they ran, people were shouting from there houses, but withdrew back inside when the sirens squawked even louder. Jack looked back, he was blinded for a bit when a light flared around the corner, Jack covered his eyes, seeing white, but kept running forward. Frank stopped,
“Go ahead, I’ll deal with these ones” said Frank, a determined look on his face, “And I’ll do it the easy way” muttered Frank as an afterthought, Jack and Phil kept running, aware that there was a light following them from the Police Cars. Jack looked back; Frank was standing there, a short figure against blinding light, a shadow.
It inspired Jack, Frank was old and defenseless; he was facing cruel men with AK-47s and rifles, and cars. Jack was tempted to run back and try and help Frank, but jack knew his duty. Jack stopped when they reached the edge of the village, and watched the battle. Frank raised his hand, then shouted something. The car which was leading jerked sideways, heading full speed towards an house,
“What of those inside?’ gasped Phil, but the car crashed into the wall, bursting into flames, a spark drifted off from the flames, and caught the house which was on top, which was wooden, and it caught on fire, burning those inside. Jacks eyes swelled with tears, it was the first time he had seen death so cruel. Jacks attention slipped back to where Frank was, the flames licking behind Frank, the light had gone. More cars were approaching, at least two more. This time Frank raises his hands and clapped. The car in front hurtled past Frank, and past the fire, and stopped short behind Frank. 3 bodies tumbled out of the car, obviously dead. This time Frank ran, heading fro the car, the last police car close in pursuit. Frank hopped in the car, and took off. The police car driver had his eyes on Franks Car, and accidentally slipped into the fire, and the car blew up. More fires started across the street, smoke rising thick and fast. Frank drove up to where jack and Phil were, and pulled them onto the car, they sped off, into the forests around Rankovick, fires raging through Rankovick and the thing roaring in rage.
“We made it” said Phil in relief, Frank shook his head,
“We only got past the Rankovick Human Defenses” said Frank, staring ahead, jack heard him murmur something,
“Now its time to face what hell can throw at us, from here to Spain”

There was soft thudding, it sounded as though branches were being ripped apart, some strange beast could be heard snarling behind them, but all jack could see was darkness, jack couldn’t see his enemy, no one to fight, nothing to fear. But the noise. There police car was a jeep, with a machine gun on top, there was a roof, with several holes so you can stand up. The back of the jeep had nothing to protect them but the sides had protection. They then shot out of the foliage, and the noise stopped, Jack looked behind them, there were yellow eyes gleaming from the forest, watching the. Jack shivered.
“What was that?’ asked Phil, sounding very scared.
“Have you ever had time to read stories about, wolves?’ asked Frank, Jack and Phil nodded, wolves were lovely and cute, but nasty when they want ed to be, which was usually.
“And they human form of wolves?” asked Frank again, jack shivered, he nodded, Phil looked horrified,
    “You…you mean that was a”
“Werewolf” finished Frank, Jack was shocked,
“but werewolves don’t exist” said jack, he knew they were just stories,
“Werewolves have hidden themselves lately, for the past 4 centuries, after humans started to become aware of them and kill them” said Frank, still driving,
“They will kill, and some work for the forces of… evil” finished Frank, jack knew he was going o say something else,
“And what was the thing which grabbed you?” asked Phil,
“That was Wholmer, terrible beats, they love human stomachs the best” said Frank with a shiver, fear in his eyes,
“But these things are supernatural, they don’t exist” said jack, Frank looked over,
“They do, because you just saw that we were chased by an Werewolf, there’s no stories now Jack, these beats work for evil, and there’s more then Werewolves, Wholmer and Shadow lurkers, much more” said Frank, it was at that moment when jack realized how dangerous of an adventure they were in, this could easily kill him as someone could clap there fingers.

    Chapter 5
    Icebreaker

The jeep chugged along, jack had many more questions, and one of these was-
“How do such beats exist without Humans knowing?’ asked jack, frightened of the thought,
“Oh, Humans know all right” said Frank matter of factly,
    “Eh?”
“Wholmer, originally the Egyptians knew all about them” said Frank,
“Wholmer haunted all who killed in murder and all who went to the underworld”said Frank, “According to myths”
Jack couldn’t grasp it, these monsters were vicious, killed, werewolves roamed forest right outside Modern Russian Villages, but no one mentioned anything, it was impossible!
“There’s more then Wholmer and Werewolves” said Frank,
    “What!?”
“There’s Shadow Lurkers, the twisted One, Nettlers” said Frank, this was overwhelming, Shadow lurkers and Nettlers sounded okay, but the twisted One!? Jack was about to ask what it was, when Frank cut him short,
“No more questions tonight, we need to get to the next village before day break” said Frank,
    “Why?” asked Phil,
“The werewolf and its pack will be after us, and we need to keep ahead” said Frank, at the moment a howling was heard from there right, Jack looked fearfully into the shadows, seeing only the illuminated field around them.
“Do not fear the dark, it is what comes from the dark you shall fear” said Frank,
“I’m not scared!” complained Jack, hoping his face looked annoyed, not fearful and worried like he was inside himself.
    “Just curious”
He wasn’t just curious, he was terrified, and Jack was sure Phil felt the same. Jack kept looking into the fields, catching occasional glimpse of soft padded paws before it disappeared into the darkness. There was the humming of the engine, the padding of paws and the rustling of leaves. Nothing else moved or made a noise. It was as if the surrounding forest was scared, the trees didn’t waver in the wind, the crickets didn’t croak, and there were no owls or birds. It was desolate. Jack quivered where he was kneeling on the truck, not daring to stick his head out of the vehicle; he was scared stiff that the werewolves might attack at any moment, here he was. In a jeep on the Siberian Plains, running from werewolves, he had never seen a picture of a werewolf, but now he had to face one…

All of a sudden there scenery changed, they were back in the forest, which meant-
“Don’t werewolves only attack at night in the forest?” asked Phil, jack waited for Franks reply, Frank nodded. Now jack was wishing he could use magic, to teleport him to Moscow. There was a snarling, Jack whipped his head around, there, right near the jeep, was a werewolf. Jack looked at its fur, all messy, and its eye, one large and one small, and its massive long ears, legs and arms. He couldn’t look at it, be near it, Jack quickly jumped over to where Phil was sitting, getting next to Phil. Jack watched the snarling beast, knowing it would be human when the moon went down, which was only 30 minutes away. It looked harmless enough, jack couldn’t imagine someone being scared by werewolves, he thought until it attacked. It launched it self off the ground, ramming sideways into the jeep, nearly turning them over,
    “I thought so” said Frank,
“What did you think?” asked Phil,
“That’s just a cub” said Frank, Jack hadn’t taken his eyes off it, and fear went through his veins again, if that was just a cub, how big was a adult one? And how strong would it be? The Cub werewolf rammed the jeep again,
“How is a werewolf a cub? If its human?’ asked Jack,
“humans who are children, but are werewolves at night. Cub’s usually have fur, adult ones are hairless.” Said Frank, Jack was revolted, then there was louder thudding, smashing noise and howling. The howling was horrible, jack covered his ears, it felt like misery itself. The jeep shot out of the forest, the moon was waning now, and the werewolves would be turning into human soon, up ahead was lights, and smoke. There was small fire as villagers warmed themselves in there homes, The next village was here! There were about 10-20 huts, all wooden, and about 300 people as jack estimated. There jeep pulled up in the village, ad friendly people came over, greeting them. Jack jumped out of the car, and he was closely followed by Phil and Frank.
‘There could be enemies anywhere around us right now’ thought Jack, looking around, he was quite shaken by being chased by werewolves, and inwardly thanking it was dawn. Frank walked off, shaking away some villagers, Jack followed him, and Phil managed to pull himself away. Frank entered the local hotel, Jack walked over to the hotel door and peeked inside. The place was lovely, made of wood and well kept. Frank was talking to someone at the counter, and eventually walked away, motioning for Jack and Phil to come over. Jack strolled over casually, although he felt sick inside himself. They walked upstairs, and Frank opened an great wooden door, to reveal a bedroom, three cosy beds, an wooden desk and lamp. Jack collapsed on one of the beds, then spoke up-
“What does a Wholmer look like?” asked jack, Franks sighed,
“They depend, right nows theres an recorded three, one is yellow, and 30 metres high, the other is 10 metres high, and greenish, I have never encountered the third” said Frank,
“And what are nettlers? Shadow lurkers?” asked phil,
“nettlers I have only heard of, they lurk in water, then lash out with tentacles and pull down ships, eating all on board. Shadow lurkers are agents from hell” said Frank,
“What do they do!?’ asked jack, but Frank refused to speak on. There was the annoying question of what and who was the Twisted One, but Jack refrained himself.
“And what are these things from?” whispered Phil,
“Hell. I can tell you this, Heaven and Hell ahev been fighting since earth was created, wanting possession. When the Human race came, hell hated them, and was intent on destroying them” said Frank,
“no more, sleep now” ordered Frank, Jack pulled back the covers of his bed, and lay down, looking a the roof, thinking of werewolves and hell….

    Chapter 6
    Rose

Jack woke up the next morning, with the sunlight streaming through the windows. Jack looked over and saw Frank and Phil’s bed empty, and made, Jack got up quietly and walked to the window. He surveyed the streets below him, several people were strolling down it, someone was whistling, it was a clear blue sky, with fluffy clouds floating by in the sky.

Jack sighed with content, and changed into nicer clothes, which he found at the foot of his bed with a note on it,

    Jack,

We are just going out for some food, and to survey the surrounding area. I will be back soon to discuss what we’re going to do, and I’ll bring a friend with me. Phil’s also here, we’ll be back around 10:00.

    Frank,

Jack read it through several times, and realized he had spare time until 10.

Jack glanced at the clock, it was quarter to 10 already! Jack must’ve slept for ages! Jack slapped his hand against his head, realizing that he had lost heaps of spare time. He then tidied himself up, brushing his teeth, having a shower (The water was spring water from the mountains) and combing his hair.

Around quarter past 10 there was a knock on the door. Jack walked over and looked through hole, and saw Frank and Phil, and someone else, who jack didn’t recognize, Jack opened the door with a wide smile. Phil looked at him with relief, and said-
“You slept long brother; I was awake in time to see the sun come up”
And with that Phil walked past him. Frank was holding several bags of what looked like shopping, and merely grunted, and Frank pushed past jack. The third person, the stranger, smiled warmly at Jack, and Jack tried to smile back, but couldn’t as his curiosity take hold. Jack stepped out of the way and the stranger walked by. Jack shut the door and walked over into where Phil, Frank and the stranger were waiting.
Jack pulled out a chair and sat down, the rest contented themselves by sitting on beds.
“Okay, Jack, your questions, and you Phil, ask me few, but not less” said Frank, not bothering to introduce the stranger, by the look in Phil’s eyes, he was observing this as well. Jack decided to ask the first question,
“What’s this Heaven against hell thing?” asked jack, a glint appeared in the strangers eyes.
“Aye, this leads to our new friend. You may have noticed him, but he is no he, or a she, this person is no person.” Teased Frank,
“It is an alien!” yelled Phil, fear in his eyes, Frank and the stranger burst out laughing.
“Very funny Phil” said the stranger.
“Wha-?” gasped Jack, how did the stranger know Phil’s name?
“No jack and Phil, I am no alien, and I know your name Phil through complicated means, does that answer your question jack?” asked the stranger, jack was taken back, when he did he ask a question.

When a voice rang clearly though his head,
    He can see your mind
What was that voice? Jack shook his head and concentrated back on task.
“I am Mattkilanius, in human language often referred to as Matt. I am no human, and no agent of hell, I am that you often dream of” said Matt.
“But I give no word away” quickly said matt as he looked at Frank, who smiled.
“Huh?” asked Phil, Frank smiled, but a frown appeared on Matt’s face.
“Are you sure Mister Ulmer that this is the ones you talk of?” asked Matt.

Jack looked from Matt to Frank, to Phil, who also looked at Jack, there was a confused look on Phil’s face as well.
What are they talking about, looks like Jack doesn’t know either.
What was that? It was voice which ran clearly through his head, all other thought pushed out of his mind, as if a barge coming through a harbor full of small yachts. Jack looked around bewildered, and Matt muttered something,
“There” Jack couldn’t hear the second bit, but Matt’s mouth kept moving, and Frank nodded. Jack felt strange,
“Why are Nettlers Unheard of?” asked Phil, Frank raised a finger.
“Can you Imagine Nettlers taking ships every day? Plus there very rare. Right now there are about 10 worlds wide. That is happening with many other creatures as well” said Frank , “There is one in the Aegean, one in the Black Sea, one in lake Superior and two around the East Indies and Australia”
“They don’t sound pretty scary” exclaimed jack, Frank let out a humorless laugh,
“Don’t drop your opinions when you’ve never met it” said Matt,
“You mean when you’ve never fought it” corrected Frank, and Matt nodded.
“Why not just shoot them in the head?” asked Jack,
“There head is harder then Titanium” said Frank.
Jack noted this fact, in case he met one. Frank got up,
    “Now to our plans”
    Jack looked up,

“This is what we’re doing. Right now we’re 100 km’s off Rankovick, by midnight tomorrow we need to be at Komi, then we travel to Moscow or Leningrad”
    “Moscow!!???” exclaimed Phil, Frank nodded.
“And we leave, now” ordered Frank. Jack jumped up like he was shocked, as did Phil, and the scurried off to pack there stuff. Jack sorely wished they could stay in this village, it was lovely, the hotel was excellent and the clothes were well. But they had to leave, when jack realized something, he walked out into the bedroom as did Phil and spoke to Frank directly.
“Why do we have to go to Moscow? Why can’t I and Phil go back”
    “Home?” finished Phil.
“Hell and heaven fight each other for one reason” said Matt,
“And that is this; they fight to control the earth and all who reside on it” said Frank,
    “Why?” asked Phil,
“That you shall know in time, but for this; they have no home”
“They use creatures and humans to battle, hell use creatures of nightmares. Like monsters and beasts. Heaven uses angels and ulms, and humans to battle.’ Said Frank,
“this bit is knowledge which could wreck your lives, but I reveal this; some humans are not normal, and hell and heaven must recruit them. It usually runs through a bloodline, mostly families in Central Europe and the Americas, as they have most background” said Matt.
“but to the main subject, why are we going to Moscow?” asked jack again, annoyed at the change of subject.
“Because jack, the werewolves are after us” said Frank, jack realized he had a point there.
“Right, let’s go at once, why we don’t leave now?” asked Phil,
    “We are”
    “Ooooohhhhh…”

Jack felt no intention to stay, and hurried off to pack, if possible, even faster. Finally he was done, and heaved his case to the door way, where Matt and Frank were waiting. Soon Phil came, huffing and puffing. Frank opened the door and Jack and Phil heaved the suitcases down stairs,
“bit of help please?’ asked Phil,
“You need a work out” chuckled matt, the look on Phil’s face was so funny to watch, a sit turned from sweet to sour, and Matt walked past them, laughing. Jack looked at Phil, who was glaring at Matt. But started to heave his case downstairs again until it was at the bottom of the stairwell, and they wheeled it outside.
    Well sorry!
The voice rang through jacks head again, and he stopped, staring at a certain piece of path. Phil came over, and patted him on the arm.
“What’s up?” asked Phil. Jack looked up into Phil’s face, and looked around him, as if discovering his surroundings only then. Frank was gone from view, but Matt was looking in awe at Jack’s eyes. Matt looked away, only glancing every now and then at Jack.

Soon there was a humming, and a car appeared around the corner. It was a very nice car indeed, and the person in it looked like they were throwing away money. The car was a convertible, the top gone, and it was sleek and smooth. There was a aged man sitting in the front, driving, and a women in her 20’s. Jack only caught a glimpse of them, and didn’t notice anything. Frank appeared by the corner, a grim smile on his face, and pointed at the car, which stopped at once. Frank then clicked his fingers and the car sped backwards to closer to Frank. He clicked his fingers again and it opened the card doors. Frank walked over to it, and jack caught a glimpse of the aged man, who was wearing a shirt with palm trees on it, and a hat. He was very rich by the looks of it. Frank spoke quietly to him, faster then light the man drew a knife a tried to stab Frank, who quickly jumped, then Frank muttered something, and blasted the man out of the car. He hit the wall; the impact could’ve killed any normal human. But the man got up and brushed dust off him. Fire shot from his mouth, and from his hand. Nearly engulfing Frank, then something amazing happened, the man shot fire from his hands, mouth and eyes, and Frank deflected it by turning it into ice, then shooting it at him, spearing the man and killing him. Frank got in the car, and Matt and Phil followed, as did jack.

Frank was driving, Matt was in the passenger seat and Phil hopped in and looked at Jack, to find someone else sitting in between them. The lady from before was sitting there, eyes closed. Then she opened them, she was wearing a wooly jumper, and she spoke-
“Finally Frank, it took you 30 years to find it, did it?” asked the lady, Frank nodded. The car started and took off, going very fast. The ladies voice was clear; her hair was black and her eyes blue.
“I have known about it for about sixteen years” said Frank; jack was deeply surprised to find that they knew each other.
How do they know each other?
It rang through his head again, this time clearer. Sixteen years, what happened sixteen years ago? Jack was sixteen so his probably didn’t know about it, as he was a baby. And what was the item?
The lady looked at Jack and then Phil and at Jack again. This time noticed how beautiful she was, and stared at her, but looked away. He looked back to find her looking at him still, and deep inside him he was slightly annoyed. She spoke to him-
“You are jack right?” she asked, Jack nodded.
“I am Roseairllia, but in human language I am Rose” said Rose.
    How old is she?
The thought wandered through his mind, the voice, this time jack merely acknowledged it.
    “Uh” said Rose,
    “What?” asked Phil,
“I can see it in your face” she teased to Phil,
    “See what?’ asked Phil again,
“You’re wondering my age in human way” said Rose. Phil nodded,
‘you will find out eventually” said Rose, a annoyed look etched over Phil’s face, but he didn’t pursue the subject. Jack looked at there surroundings, they were out of the village now, speeding by Russian mountains. On there way to Komi.
