Introduction

FN NOVGOROD.gif

The People of Novgorod are essentially the unplayable Early period predecessors of the Russians. Differences between the two are otherwise minimal. Their faction colour is that of the Russians — light blue.

The Novgorod faction can be made playable by changing the startpos file Early.txt. Changing the line:
SetActiveFaction:: FN_NOVGOROD		FT_MINOR
to:
SetActiveFaction:: FN_NOVGOROD		FT_MAJOR
will make them playable in the Domination campaign. Playing Novgorod with Glorious Achievements will cause the game to crash when the scores are checked.

The Early.txt startpos file is also missing Offices for the People of Novgorod. These can be copied from the Russians' entry from Late.txt:

AddOffice:: FN_NOVGOROD    royal_palace         "Chamberlain of the Great Palace"     +2    +2    0    0    0    0    0
AddOffice:: FN_NOVGOROD    constables_palace    "Grand Warder of the Kremlin"         +2    0     0    2    0    0    0
AddOffice:: FN_NOVGOROD    marshals_palace      "Grand Marshal"                       +2    0     0    2    0    0    0
AddOffice:: FN_NOVGOROD    chancellery          "Chancellor Of All The Russias"       +3    1     0    1    0    0    0
AddOffice:: FN_NOVGOROD    admiralty            "Grand Admiral of the Fleet"          +1    0     0    2    0    0    0
AddOffice:: FN_NOVGOROD    cathedral            "Metropolitan of Moscow"              0     2     0    0    3    0    0

The People of Novgorod also do not get Princesses. If these are desired, the unit_prod file will need to be modified to allow them.

Games starting in the High or Late period do not have the People of Novgorod as an available faction, they are replaced by the Russians.
