The Frozen Crusade
The Frozen Crusade is a relatively new PBM offered on the .Org. It was created in December 2007 and plays using the Medieval II Total War: Kingdoms expansion pack.
The PBM shows the Brotherhood of the Teutonic Order attempt to bring the areas of Prussia, Livonia, Lithuania, Russia, Poland, Scandinavia, and Western Germany under their rule. It is located in the Throne Room.
How is it played?
The game's rules borrow heavily from the popular PBM's designed by econ21, Will of the Senate for RTW and King of the Romans for M2TW. The game is changed due to the interesting dynamics of the Teutonic Order, which include having no family tree, no marriages, and no princesses, but only a religious brotherhood of warriors. The hierarchy of the avatars are Bruder (Brother, similar to KOTR Elector), Komtur (similar to KOTR Count), Meister (KOTR Duke), and the in-game ranks of Ordensmarshall and Hochmeister.
Masterdoms
At the start of the game, there are two Masterdoms, presided over by the Meisters. They are Prussia in the south, with capital Marienburg, and the larger Livonia in the north, with capital Riga. The Hochmeister assigns new generals to a Masterdom as there is no family tree to dictate their allegiance like in KOTR. New Masterdoms may be created as the number of Teutonic Generals grows and the empire spreads.
The Order Council
The Order Council, not unlike the KOTR Imperial Diet, meets every ten turns to vote on Edicts, propose new laws, and vote for the Schatzmeister (KOTR Chancellor). This functions almost exactly like the Imperial Diet except for the fact that aside from the original FAQ, there is no Charter.
