The french ambassador stands and makes an announcement.
Attention! Attention!
It seems the silly Spanish Kn-n-n-n-n-n-ig'hts are far sillier than we thought. Not only have they rejected our generous offer, but like Don Quixote they have attempted to....
The french ambassador bursts out laughing
..."Counterattack" us. needless to say this did not go very well for the Spanish. We are making good progress toward the heart of their territory now. We have retaken what land they tried to defend last season with ease, and are now at the gates of their settlements. They do not seem to have much in the way of resistance anywhere in their territory, though we can see that they are *trying* to build up some kind of counterattacking force in their castles, as predicted. Unfortunately they will not be able to raise such an army in time.
Au revoir, mon ami, and bon chance. I will miss you very much indeed.
I would like to note however that they have decided to try a highly unorthodox strategy for counterattacking us. They have taken to renaming their settlements, and.... forgive me for saying so in this dignified setting, but.... No, King of Spain, (no means no) we do not wish to be your homosexual lover, nor do we wish to imbibe the secretions that come from your derriere, nor do we wish to be your female dog. I realize that you desire French men, very very strongly, and perhaps one day, if we capture you alive, we will allow you to partake of your lewd and lusty desires with one of our unwashed Spanish prisoners in a jail cell just before your execution, but frankly none of our males are so undignified as to wish to have relations with you, no matter how badly you clearly want it.
I realize this will be heartbreaking for you to hear, but at least now we understand why the Spanish King invaded Africa.... it was to find him some fine exotic men! :laugh4:
I have heard of coming out but this is beyond ridicule. Actually renaming half of your settlements, to tell the entire world how much you wish to be with men, that is quite interesting and unexpected of course. But we wish you well, I know that you might be able to find what you're looking for out at sea, on a swaying ship filled with swarthy-skinned seamen. Don't let the scurvy get you. Oh, pardon me but I sank some more of your fleet, and I do apologize. I know it makes you weep to see all those men drown, for reasons both subtle and gross.
Adieu, mon roi, for the crown that sits atop your head is starting to look slightly more.... like a tiara. :quiet:
All Hail the Glorious Emperor, Sun-God Askthepizzaguy, Eternal Ruler of France!
GOD BE PRAISED!!!

Not really sure how to respond to the Frenchman’s assessment of the Spanish, Crowley approaches the court with another matter,
“Adding to the French’s...good news, the main Turkish force held up in central Sicily has been crushed and the many Turkish nobles sent to salt the earth they so recently burned. We have also recaptured western Sicily and shall have the entire people of the Sicilian island free within the next season. Although with the fall of the Turkish invaders, another invading Easterner rises.”
Crowley pauses to clap slowly and sarcastically.
“I must congratulate the Egyptians, or whatever they call themselves now days, for their new king isn’t as stupid as we first assumed. He managed not to leave his troops open to attack like we had hoped he would, oh well, that still only brings him just short of comatose; for even a village fool would now better than to march on lands under the protection of Rome; and a mere baby would know better than to attack Rome when half her forces were already gathering in Italy to smother out the Turkish invasion.”
Thinking out loud, Crowley ponders,
“Although, I do have to wonder if there really is something else going on here; a more sophisticated plan. I’m not really that knowledgeable on modern Eastern customs, but could this be one? Some kind of twisted mass sacrifice? Or a sort of spring cleaning of the Royal families? That must be it. Why else would two Eastern Sultans send so many of their own royal lines, just to have them fall on Roman swords? I do have to wonder...should we start keeping a tally? I mean shouldn’t they be paying us for all this work we’re doing for them? How can they consider themselves civilized men when they just throw their unwanted trash out on a neighbor's lawn, without even asking or providing a little compensation?
The Egyptian Negotiater Nasser gives a smile to Crowley across the table.
"The King has indeed decided to spring clean the royal houses of worthless generals. He hopes you are up to the task."
Nasser starts to laugh as the others around him stare in amazement.

"To think, I once held respect for the people of the east, oh...wait, that was just belly dancers. Come to think of it, I never liked you guys, always trying to rip me off on business deals, and I suppose you're not going to pay us for our services rendered here either, tipical."

the Kiev diplomat is handed a scroll by one of his attendants, while reading this scroll he looks concerned, then angry, before regaining his composure and turning to the assembled diplomats.
I have just recieved news that the 1st Kieven Expeditionarry force was attacked without provocation by a Turkish fleet. My liege's first reaction was that war weaws neccisary, but recent evidence that the Sultan was suffering from a severe headach, and that a lesser noble ordered the attack in place of the esteemed sultan.
In light of this, we are prepared to come to a peaceful solution.
First of all, reparations must be paid as soon as possible to the Kiev for this attack and to replace the ships we lost. This reparation will be a sum of 2000 florins, which is subject to negotiation based on the extent of the damages.
Second, the man who ordered this attack is to be handed over to Kiev to do with as we see fit.
Finally, the Turkish fleet responsible for this attack, must either be disbanded or move out ofthe Black Sea, which will be in accordance with our ealier agreement that only fleets 1 ship large are to be employed by the Turks in the Black sea.

Once again the Kievan's commitment to peace surprises and impresses the French ambassador, who raises a goblet of wine in his honor.
(OC) Replaying turns is against the rules, yes? I'm sorry but I did not want to reload that turn and redo it as it would take way too much time. And it is against the rules.
Nasser stands and nods to the Kievan Diplomat.
"You will recieve reparations from Egypt.

Joszef the Magyar staggers to his feet, a thunderous expression on his face.
It seems that the navigational skills of the Fatimid navy are sorely lacking. The Magyar are ordinarily given to taking the presence of uninvited foreign troops on their land as a deliberate act of war - however in this case given our desire for friendship with Egypt we will offer the Fatimid ambassador a single opportunity to explain and to confirm that they will be re-embarking their ships next campaign season, never to return.
He fixes Nasser with a steely gaze and awaits his response.
Nasser stands up.
"Don't worry, the navigational skills of the Fatamids are not poor. They're... excellent."
Nasser starts to grin at Joszef.

The big Magyar does not respond except to spit on the flagstones in front of the Fatimid and make an obscure gesture which appears to be obscene.
His companion, the Priest Stephen, while remaining seated, speaks in a level voice.
And so it is that despite our best efforts the long-feared day has come. So there is to be war, unending war between West and East, between Christianity and Islam, between those who were once friends and brothers.
Well, let it be known that while we did not seek this war we will pursue it to the death with every sinew of our bodies.
These Saracen curs will rue the day they despoiled the blessed soil of our homeland with their accursed and filthy feet. That is if they live long enough for reflection.

The French ambassador looks up from his papers.
"Pardon the interruption, but France would like clarification from the Turks and the Egyptians whether they are indeed declaring war on all of Christendom?
The attacks on Sicily and the Holy Roman Empire, then the Kievans, and now new hostilities between Muslims and Hungarians?
Where does it end? What is the case for war being presented by the Egyptians and the Turks here? Is there any reasoning being offered, or am I to assume all nations on the Mediterranean are going to be targets of naval raids now?"
The French ambassador pauses, allowing his words to sink in.
"If I do not hear something on this matter I will assume that France may be attacked one day as well. I request an immediate response to these points, please."

“As poor as the Egyptian leadership seems to be these days, it is more likely fear, not incompetence that drives them to the Magyar’s shores. They surely fear that to stay on the open seas is to leave themselves to the mercy of the ever growing Roman Navy. A fear most justified, although it does seem at the moment they should be more scared of angering those they have not already invaded.”
“An even more important question, however, is it pride or ignorance that leads the Sultan down such a dangerous path? Personally I prefer ignorance among my enemies, but pride will do.”
Nasser slaps his hand on the table and roars with laughter.
"It was simply a joke. Our lord has not and does not plan an invasion of Hungary or any other other Christian nation."
"We must apologise to the Hungarians for abusing their land. We would ask for military access, but we are unable to at the moment."

Joszef looks quizzically at the Egyptian.
I confess sir I do not see the humour in it. But you have the opportunity to demonstrate that you are not serious about invading - simply withdraw your troops to their fleet at the first opportunity and we will overlook it.
In future be warned - we take incursions into our lands by armed military forces, even those of our friends, very seriously and we are inclined to assume the worst.

If we are to have guests in our house we prefer to have notice ahead of time and not to have them in our hallway with their luggage uninvited.
Therefore kindly remove your forces from our shores - when we have seen this sign of good faith we will be willing to discuss access with you in private.
Needless to say, we would consider it an affront were they simply to leave our lands and decamp to invade one of our allies...

The french ambassador stands and makes an announcement.
Attention! Attention!
The GLORIOUS Armies of France have liberated several more settlements from Spanish control, and sunk another large number of Spanish ships. It seems we are indestructible against the failed Spanish navy.
It also seems as though the silly King of the Spanish rebels has made residence in Marseille, France, after abandoning his homeland and telling his men to tear apart and burn all things of value in his cities. The king has gone UTTERLY MAD and is hoarding his wealth aboard the rickety and VERY VERY sinkable Spanish galleons! It is very hard for our French fleet not to turn into pirates, considering all the ships we have captured and sank.
But the shocking thing is what the king has done to his own people. He has burned his own settlements to the ground, and ABANDONED all of Spain to the French armee! All of Spain and Africa is now a sitting duck, waiting to be crushed under the weight of the unstoppable French army!
With this move, the Spanish King has admitted utter defeat, and shown contempt for his own people! As a result, the Spanish people have declared him the madman that he is, and have thrown off the shackles of his so-called rule! Even now, his men abandon the defense of his settlements and welcome the French army with open arms, hoping for more enlightened rule... hoping that someone, anyone, can restore the rule of law, and restore the greatness of the Spanish villas and castles all across the land, which the King has so mercilessly burned to the ground.
It will take many seasons, many many seasons, to repair all the damage that the Spanish King has done to his own people. But we have excellent news.
We have located the Spanish King and his main army, positioned in Marseille, and we are proud to say we have anticipated this move and already have thrice the army the Spanish King has mustered located within striking range of his forces, and we rule the sea. The King will not be able to advance any farther, and he will not be able to return to Spain, and there is nowhere to retreat but towards our glorious allies, the Northern Roman Empire.
Furthermore, we have located his top general and his army of conquistadors, who have also abandoned their homes and their families to become pirates. These silly Spanish Kn-n-n-n-n-n-n--n-n-n-n-n-n-nnn--n--nnnniggits will be put to a swift death, where they cower in the Northwest of Sardinia.
Now that we know where his forces are, and now that we control the seas, the Spanish King has trapped himself and his death is most inevitable! The French Navy and Army will soon come crashing down like a mace, and crush the skulls of the mad pirate who calls himself King!
As for the Spanish people, we have treated them well. Their taxes are low, and none have been enslaved or imprisoned and minimal bloodshed was required to liberate their settlements. The loyalty of the Spanish army at this time is at an all-time low, and many wish to join the French army, for they know they will be well-treated.
We welcome the Spanish people as our brothers, and we pledge, on the honor of the Emperor of France, to restore all of Spain to her former glory, and repair all the damage the Spanish madman has done to his nation and his people; far worse than the French could ever have possibly done. Welcomed as liberators, we will be a united people!
Let the glorious news be spread! The filthy pirate king will soon be dead!
All Hail the Glorious Emperor, Sun-God Askthepizzaguy, Eternal Ruler of France!

Crowley stands,
“In light of this news of the Spanish king’s madness, the Emperor has deemed the sighting of Spanish pirates so close to her own waters unacceptable and ordered they be attacked on sight. Already many of the pirate fleets have fled at the sight of our mighty ships, a few of which now rest on the bottom of the sea.”
Turning, Crowley smiles at the Islamic delegations,
“Now for more uplifting news: although we do not understand why you Saracens play such pitiful games, let it be known that Rome grows bored of your childish tricks. Syracuse has fallen; the Turkish holdings in Italy are gone. Now the Fatimid has a choice; send the kids home to suckle their mothers or stay and fight, either way papa pharaoh needs to keep his children off the neighbor’s lawns. However, for the safety of the kids, it would be advisable that you immediately trade Bari to Sicilian or Roman hands, at least if you want safe passage next season. Just...think of the children.”

Joszef is in a good mood today. Already he has five of the Court dogs surrounding him as he tosses them scraps of meat from his plate. One particularly large hound has its head placed in his lap, its eyes rolled up to meet his in a loving obesiance. As the serving wenches pass he pinches or slaps them, laughing uproariously at their startled reactions.
After several flagons of ale he decides to share the reason for his good humour with the rest of the assembled dignitaries, rising unsteadily in his customary manner.
Lords, Ladies and Gentlefolks of all persuasions! I am pleased to recognise the act of friendship displayed by our Egyptian friends, who have vacated their fortifications and departed our lands by sea as requested. I know not where they have gone and I care not, provided they do not return uninvited once more.

The french ambassador stands and makes an announcement.
Attention! Attention!
Still more Spanish land becomes French this season. The righteous blade sinks deep into Spain, piercing all the way to Africa, and will soon bite through to the Atlantic. And yet another blow is struck, as now Spain must fend off a sea of red uniforms from the north.
:quiet: (Oops!)
The silly Spanish King never ceases to amuse... you would think by his posturing that he had struck a terrible blow against France, and turned the tide of the war! Oh yes, perhaps he thinks so.
As his nation lies burnt to the ground by his own hands, and yet more settlements fall into French hands, the final strategy of the Spanish King is made clear: Before his inevitable and very, very satisfying demise, he intends to try to make the French King feel sad because he managed to destroy a barracks or two before he went.
Oh no, surely this cannot be. It tickles me to see this!
Perhaps this man does not realize that his nation is already French, and will soon be partly English as well. Tsk tsk tsk.... and once he has suckled at the fountain of his last sweaty sailor, and met his end, execution style, and served to the dogs for dinner, the glorious French Empire will be able to easily afford to replace these barracks, paid for with Spanish coins.
Marvelous indeed that the Spanish King does not even try to defend his own homelands, and gave them all up for lost not even a day into the war. Perhaps the yellow painted all down the Spanish uniform is not a sign of national unity, but of cowardice? Oh yes, it would seem so. He who burns his homelands, and sails away, lives to cower another day. :laugh4:
Now nothing can stop the advance of the French army, already so deep into Spain that Granada is about to fall, and Cordoba as well. And in the West, the English are ready to take all of Portugal. And yes, we see yellow armies sulking about in the West, watching Spain burn... there is nothing they can do to prevent the inevitable. Spain is lost to the Spanish King, and found easily by France. And Africa is next to fall.
How many settlements must be burned to the ground, before you must raise the white flag? How many roads must a man walk down, before you can call him a man? How many sailors must the mad Spaniard send to the bottom of the deep blue sea? And how many seamen will be his "companion", on the journey to the salty, briny deep?
These questions and more will be answered in our next exciting installment of:

Cowley receives a letter from a young Italian boy. Tipping the boy and sending him away, Crowley opens the letter and almost immediately burst out laughing. After a few moments he calms down enough to say,
“This must be a jest! Does the Far East take Rome for fools or are they just hard of hearing. If I recall correctly, I said Rome would not rest until your crimes were paid for in gold or blood. The Turks may have paid in blood, but their debt is far larger than that, so if they expect a ceasefire and trade from Rome, there is gold that must be paid. The Sultan shall receive our offer personally. Now for the Fatimid, you seem to have been merely misled by your ally, but there is still a debt owed.”
Turning back to the letter, Crowley reads on,
“Let’s see here....Ah, scratch that, it seems the debt has been paid in full; blood, good choice. Rome is now open to accept your plea for ceasefire and trade. Now, what else does it say here?”
Crowley finishes reading the letter, then lays it down,
“It seems Roman forces have been busy as of late. First and most important, Bari has been captured and Italy is entirely back in Christian hands, as good as reason to drink as any. A grand total of five Spanish fleets have been sunk this season, while two others cowardly retreated. It is also important to note that with the sad deterioration of the Spanish Kings mind and the ruined state of his lands, the Emperor no longer recognizes the Spanish as a nation, and as such has revoked the Spanish’s right to ambassadors on Roman soil. Unfortunately, the Spanish diplomat near Rome was reluctant to leave all our fine woman and wine. In the ensuing struggle he unluckily miss-stepped and fell from one of Rome’s walls. Hum...”
Crowley picks the letter back up and scans it carefully,
“Doesn’t seem to mention how he ended up there, though....”
“Oh, one more thing; if anybody sees that silly Pope of ours, tell him he’s a dead man. He was not allowed to ascend to the throne of the Papacy, just so he could so callously excommunicate faithful Christian nations. I was personally hoping he would just die of old age, but this has gone on long enough.”

Joszef the Magyar rises to address the Court. For once he appears to be sober.
We regret to inform the nations of the world that war has once again broken out between the Magyar and the Konyite Turks.
While we have strived to live in peace with our neighbours, their unprovoked attacks on our lands in the past and on the lands of our allies have left us fearful and distrustful of their motives.
So, while it may yet bring ruin upon the Magyar nation, we have resolved to purge the Turkish threat from our border and remove their ability to wage war in the future. This season Bucharest has fallen to the Magyar and in coming seasons we believe we will press our advantage further.
We would like to implore of the Fatimids: we mean you no offence or harm and we beseech you to remain neutral in this war as you did in the last Turko-Magyar conflict.

Although this attack should soon be repelled, I call a personal crusade on the Castilian nation, calling any Europeans to Arms who wish to assist in defeating these rotten dogs from the depths of Europe - any participation shall be rewarded greatly by both my own King, and the Great King of France, along with much gratitude, thanks, and a kind promise to assist in any future such wars.
I end my pledge by saying that, whilst I shall remain with my French brothers behind the walls of Paris, any other dignitaries are free to leave if they wish so, although I would rather they remain so that they can see every last Castilian dog on French soil rounded up and dealt with in whichever manner the Great King of France sees fit.

"Christians and Muslims fighting the same enemy? Could this be the beginning of a beautiful friendship or a devastating war?"
Narrowing his eyes at the Egyptian diplomat, Crowley adds
"Although if the Turks have taught us anything, it's that Muslim armies heading for the West can so ever easily get side-tracked in Italy. I'm sure it's our fine wine and seasoned fish, but on that subject Rome would appreciate it if the Egyptian armies would withdraw from Greece, before we have to get involved. We'd rather not get sucked into another war. You know we do have better things to do then fight other people's battles, like..."
Crowley thinks for a second,
"Huh, it does seem to be all we ever do. Maybe if I make a checklist I'll find something, let's see: move to counter Egyptian invasion of Greece...nope; take Marseille from silly Spanish knights...nope; kill traitorous demonic Pope...that'll do. In true Catholic fashion we have exercised the Pope and freed him of his demonic possession, which seems to be the curse of becoming Pope these days. Joszef stands, a befuddled look upon his face.
Well.....let me think.
The Spanish were at war with the Moors whom the Turks and Egyptians were allied to. Hence the Spanish were at war with Egypt and Turkey.
So perhaps Egypt is threatening to invade Spain in support of the French?
But the French are allies with the German Romans, who are fighting both the Egyptians and the Spanish.
So by invading Spain he would be helping his enemy the Emperor.....but by invading France he would be helping his enemy the Spanish.
He screws up his eyes and rubs his head.
No, it is too difficult for me.
Shaking his head, he sits and returns to his ale.

After a short time had passed, the French ambassador was called back by the king, to be informed with some urgent news. Now he has returned, to inform officially about the new Emperor to rule France.
Attention!
All emisaries in the court turn silent, their eyes now set on the French ambassador.
Thank you, my good men.
I would like to say many things from the new Emperor, unfortunately in short time. So I shall pick the most announcements to make first.
First of all, new Emperor of France wants to thank the gracious King of England and honourable Emperor of the Northern Roman Empire for their great assistance in these times of war, against evil powers of Castille-Spain. These will not go unrewarded within success.
As you may have noticed... I called the Castilians by the word „evil“. This is not just an empty word, this time this word weighs with things we usually call evil. As soon as new Emperor had come to power, he sent his best spies into heartlands of Castille to find out what caused mass death of his armies. Only few spies returned... with deep fear in their sorry eyes. Gods help them...
The Castilian King has teamed up with witches and devils, assisting him and his armies in war against Dragon States of France. He eventually made blood-pact with Devil himself!! In exchange of souls of Spanish Royal House, Devil granted him ultimate power to his men. Power, that turns men into walking trolls, abominations or worse. Only few units attacked entire armies of France in their forts, located in Spain... and now they all are gone, killed by enchanted Spanish troops. I personally did not believe that, till the so-called ’great’ battle of Clermont, where a small force of horsemen that looked like any normal horsemen, rampaged entire army, defeating Clermont.
Half of France is now under rule of the Devil-King. Our reforged Legions are now attempting to take back lands, which are under their control. Gods help us...
That’s all for now, fellow emissaries, and thank you for listening.
All Hail the Dragon-Emperor, RexLegend I , Ruler of France!
French ambassador bows and takes seat, meanwhile observing viciously “representative“ of Spanish people. Or whats left of them.

Crowley solemnly stands and addresses the court,
"I call for a moment of silence in remembrance of the valiant Hugo von Hohenstaufen who died nobly freeing Greece of the Egyptian invaders."
Crowley bows his head, then after a long pause he raises it again a sly smile having returned to his face,
"He, however, did not die alone! He sent both the general Abu and the Sultan's own son, heir to the throne, Amir Abu Bakr the Mad down to the devil's rusty gates; before ascending himself to meet Saint Peter. Other forces have also freed Corinth of Egyptian tyranny, while sending Abu--different Abu--to join his brothers in hell's fire. Unfortunately, the fourth Abu still remains unaccounted for. Actually, I don't really know what his name was, Abu just seems to fit; besides, I don't really know any other common Egyptian names off hand. Anyway, he is believed to be dead, but in the mass chaos of the Egyptian retreat we were unable to confirm. You know, I always wanted a monkey named Abu, I just can't seem figure out what I'm now going to do with three dead ones...I could have them stuffed?"
Crowley laughs to himself until he remembers where he is; cringing, Crowley looks over at the Egyptian delegation,
"Too soon?"
The Council doors bang open and the majordomo announces Lady Sigrid Hauteville and Graf von Ortenburg.
Lady Sigrid was absent from the Hall since King Ubaldo I of Sicily was killed at the Battle of Naples Gates fighting the Turks. With him most of the high nobles died as well. Sicily spiraled into chaos.
But with Lady Sigrid return maybe someone finally got the upper hand at Apulia, Calabria and Sicily
She greets the Council and sits gracefully at the table. Graf von Ortenburg comes to stands just behind her chair and handles her respectfully, but firmly a sheet of documents.
Lady Sigrid glances irritably to the Graf and accepts the sheet. She opens the package and reads the first document:
"The County of Sicily and Dukedom of Apulia and Calabria from now on are hereby named the Kingdom of Sicily. Ettore Hautheville, now King Ettore I, son of King Simon I is our new King. However, since he´s still a child, the Naples Council shall rule until he comes to knighthood age. Emperor Constantine has generously returned Naples, Palermo, Bari and Siracuse to the Sicily Crown."
She advances for the next document: "King Ettore I and Emperor Constantine agreed to nominate the following names for the Naples Council..." She stops a moment to glance to Graf von Ortenburg that answers with a half smile and nods for her to continue. She makes a sour face and reads: “…Count Loritello, Graf von Löwenstein and Giuseppe IV, Prince of Salerno. Each has one vote at Council."
The next document reads, "The Prince of Salerno is visiting Vienna, inasmuch he defers his voting rights to Graf von Löwenstein that will speak on his name". Lady Sigrid mumbles "why I fear this visit will be quite long...".
Sigrid shifts to the next document. "The Emperor Constantine grants the title of Freiin von Kyffhäuserkreis zu Nordec to Lady Si...what?" She half jumps at her seat and turns back to the Graf that now smiles happily with her surprise. "Go on my lieben". She eyes him suspiciously and continues "...to Lady Sigrid Hauteville, now Baroness von Kyffhäuserkreis with all the privileges, lands and manors the title holds." She shakes her head in amazement "...surely this is a sheet full of surprises"
She frowns before the next document, reading it intensely. The Graf behind her now sports and even bigger smile. She peeks back to the Graf intensely, and then explodes "Non!! Non, Je ne conviens pas!! Vous n'avez pas ma bénédiction de père!! NON!" She impulsively rips the document before her, tearing it to shreds. The Graf blinks shocked and don’t knows what to do, he steps closer to whisper furiously to Baroness Sigrid ear but only succeeds to get her viciously whispering back something that makes his face go red with anger or embarrassment, or both. He looks to Crowley that shakes his head curtly. The Graf steps back still trying to control himself.
Sigrid waves the document pieces away airily and continues to the next: "The Crown of Sicily wishes to announce that the Egypt moves at North Africa have not gone unnoticed and that our navy and army are alert to any move your forces make across the sea. Lastly, Sicily congratulates the Emperor for his victories at Greece, may our Lord continue to guide your Holy Sword of Vengeance against the Saracens."

Willmott shakes his head in anger, drinking a whole glass of wine at once.
The offer you have also made my good friend, the King of France, is an outright insult to his peoples - the lands of Aragon and Navarre have always been French lands, being part of their territory since the times of our forefather Charlemagne himself. The big Magyar has been wrestling with something for some time. In the pale light from the leaded glass windows it is noticeable for the first time that time has taken its toll on Joszef. His moustache is flecked with grey and his big round face now drawn and lined with worry. Those who observe him have seen clearly in his face that he has been uncomfortable throughout this discussion. Once he begins to stand but is restrained by a hand on the arm and an intense look from his priestly colleague. Finally it seems he can stand it no more and, brushing Father Stephen off, he rises to address Crowley directly.
Good sir, it pains me to have to say this, particularly in light of the close alliance in place between our two great nations. We Magyar will never forget that German Rome rode to our rescue when the night was at its darkest and nobly and in good faith returned to us Corinth and Iraklion after the enemy was driven from their walls. Nothing that happens now can ever offset the great debt that Hungary owes to the Emperor Charles and his proud people.
However, my own honour demands that I speak out in conscience against what I perceive as an injustice being perpetrated by Germany against the nation of Castile.
Let us not forget that the road to our own successes against Turkey and Egypt were paved by the Spanish in North Africa. While the rest of Europe stood paralyzed by infighting and politics, the Castilians alone stood against the Islamic hordes and drove them back into the desert from whence they came.
Dishonourably and in a spirit of selfish acquisition, at the moment of Spain's triumph over our enemy and when her back was turned, France struck her a dagger blow between the shoulderblades and invaded her undefended homelands.
Even now, after Spain has valiantly fought off her invader and taken the fight to France and England, she is willing to make peace and lay down her arms.
I see but one villain in this piece and it is not the Spanish. I urge the noble Germans to stand up for what is right and refrain from their war against Spain. If support cannot be given to the Spanish cause, can you not at least stay neutral in their conflict that a diplomatic solution can be found between France, England and Spain?
I speak these words from my own heart and not as an expression of the formal policy of my beloved King Laszlo. I hope he will understand my desire to do so and not remove me from these proceedings in punishment.
He sits once more. The Priest Stephen glares at him.

My people have no true say in this matter and will not become involved. However, if, God forbid, war were to come from this we would always stand by the side of our friends the Magyar.
However, I do not think that likely, especially with the fatimids still around to plague us.

Crowley sighs, mumbling to himself,
"Here he goes getting all sober and ruining my fun."
With a slightly annoyed smile, Crowley stands to address the court,
"It is true the Spanish were once a mighty people and they defended the faith valiantly; and I... ur...the Emperor respects them greatly for that. It is also true that the previous French kings actions were...well, less then honorable. However, the Spanish have since fallen from grace. They destroy non-discriminately; leaving not only the lands of their enemy desolate, but their own as well. Even God's temples are not safe from their madness. Maybe a foreign ruler is just what they need to bring prosperity--and sanity--back to their lands?"
"My Lord is of course a benevolent man, and has been more then generous in our past peace talks with Spain; but they were blind to their own predicament and unwilling to let go of their unreasonable demands for the lands of Aragon. They still seem to be in denial and my lord has lost his patience. With the Crusades for the Holy lands constantly on his mind, the Emperor has decided to delegate all Spanish operations to a less then benevolent man...me."
Standing straight in a mock-military pose, Crowley proclaims in a loud voice,
"As head of all Roman campaigns in Iberia, I swear to bring as swift an end as possible to the Spanish conflict; I give my word that Rome shall not see the destruction of any and all public buildings; and I shall see to it that the Emperor's policy of generosity shall no longer be extended to the Spanish Crown;"
Crowley stands there grinning until one of his assistants whispers in his ear. Grumbling, Crowley adds,
"unless, obviously, the Emperor orders it."

Just a few minutes later a messenger enters the court room and hands Crowley a letter.
"It appears we have good news already, as the mighty cities of Cordoba and Alexandria have fallen to Roman forces. Despite a general want of revenge among the troops for the burning of many great Christian cities, the Emperor has ordered otherwise, and as such they remain un-razed."

Ah yes, on that note I think it is worth mentioning that the Holy city of Jerusalem was safely captured and kept intact by Rus forces. As were 4 other Al Qud provinces. Perhaps now they will pay head to our offer of letting them surrender.

The Ibero-Roman emissary turns to the Danish and English emissaries.
I have just heard from the King of France: he refuses to grant any peace terms. I call upon you to desert such bellicose and greedy allies, and stand up while their is still time.
For after Egypt falls, and I fall, what will there be to stop the French and Northern Romans from invading and annexing you? If they can destroy my kingdom, which is twice as big as yours, then surely they will not scruple to invade your lands and seize them for themselves.
Strike now, strike hard. The French are still smarting from my invasion of their lands - if you but hurry, they will be forced to sure for terms of peace.

Crowley smirks,
"Is that the best you can come up with? I think history would judge otherwise. If we had sought the lands of our smaller allies, we have had plenty of chances to do so. Roman forces controlled over half of Sicily during the Turkish invasion, yet we returned them. We have never made an aggressive move against our Danish allies, and we gladly accepted the English when the French decided to spare them. Although we are very generous with our allies, I'm afraid Spain is out of luck as the Empire isn't so keen on sparing her enemies."

Of course you have not invaded Denmark - how could you when you have bigger matters such as a war with the Turks and Egypt? But you have shown your true nature: a grasping, power-hungry aggression that rivals even that of Rome of old. You will not bear peace easily; it bores you.
And do you think that France, having had to cede her Irish provinces to the English in order to fight the war against me, won't lust for them back once she has brutally slaughtered the last of my line? She started this war, completely unprovoked, against her Christian brother who had just finished recovering North Africa from the Moors. You may make great show of your war against the Caliphate in the east, but you seem to enjoy the destruction of a fellow Christian in the west.
We shall fight you to the last, but should you by a miracle of God, repent of your of unjust actions, we will submit to any reasonable peace offers.

French ambassador rises from seat with face, looking like he's about to burst into laugh.
You old fool... Why should France want to attack England and Denmark?
Then ambassador shakes head with face turning sad, and drinks one of rare French wines from sacked areas of South France.
Many seasons have passed... Many armies lie dead, with fair and unfair or even "evil" actions. Many men never return to home. And many return, only to see their homes burnt down. Both Spain and France have now deep scarred wounds, that can't be forgotten, never. France almost lost her war, but got her strength back. When French King offered peace, you had chance to end this nightmare. But oh no! Proposal was rejected utterly and French had nothing to do with unacceptable terms, while having one "straw" left. And you knew it! Yet still you moan and groan here about greed of ours and call our allies up to backstab us!? We had no other option left but continue war and push this so far forward, that it's price is nation, sacked by his own Kings, becoming under rule of foreign rulers. Too deep are scars, of past and present...
Quick but breathtaking silence lasted in hall, before ambassador continued.
There's one thing left to say... You were warned and you didn't listen, being stuck in your pride. No any request of becoming vassal was offered. Now face it and stay proud as you were once. This is probably last thing you can do by now.
French diplomat takes seat, while having empty eyes looking into nothingness.

Crowley raises an eyebrow to the Spaniard,
"Power-hungry aggression? Rome has spent the majority of the Muslim war and at least half of the war with Spain protecting and reconquering allied lands..."
"...despite my advisement otherwise," Crowley adds under his breath.
"Roman men have gladly given their lives in the defense of her allies and they would valiently do it again. Of course Rome has a hunger for power, all great nations do, or else they would not be great nations; but we do not do it at the expense of our allies."

While your position is understandable, sir Frenchman, perhaps you could show yourself the true better of the Spanish by having mercy. True the Spanish did not do the same for you, but will your people not live most happily knowing that not only do you know how to fight for their freedom, but you know when to stop the fighting, taking some victories to keep your former enemy from striking back.
Continued fighting will only drive the scars deeper.
I encourage a deal whereby Spain keeps its nationhood, maintaining Iberia, minus Barcelona and a castle of Frances choosing. Barcelona will be the reparations for your refusal to have peace with France earlier, while the castle shall serve to ensure that you do not strike France again.
I know you are not likely to enjoy this agreement, sir Spaniard, but it would show the world that your people are able to step down and make compromises in the name of peace.

"I think you miss the point, I doubt the French care much about Barcelona. It is the unravaged city of Zargoza that the French will not let go of. Not to mention, a large part of Iberia resides in Roman hands."

We are prepared to cede the French the castle of Valencia and the Northern Romans the Balearics and three provinces in Africa.
Turning to the Rus emissary, the Ibero-Roman emissary explains.
The Spanish March(Pamplona, Saragossa, and Barcelona) has never been in Castilian hands. It is currently owned by the French, so we cannot cede it, only desist from pressing claims upon it.

We regret to inform this court that we had to attack the Danish fleet outside Bordeaux. While we wished to avoid war, the situation was getting tenuous in Iberia, and due to their threats of war should peace not be reached we felt we had no choice but to defend our waters.
If the Danish King will assure us of his neutral intent, then we shall immediately offer generous compensation for any damage sustained.
The Danish envoy looks up to the Spanish ambassador:
So, the dogs of war have been unleashed, and our brothers from the ship have died. We are saddened by this, but make no mistake, our axes wont waver.
We don't want your money, the lives of our brothers are not up for sale. If you, however, will reach an agreement with France and Rome, we will discuss the conditions for peace then.
We have heard your earlier pleas. Of course the French or the Germans could chose to attack us. They have not done it so far, and we, vikings, chose to believe in honor. We will of course defend our homeland from all aggressors. Our kingdom is not that large, but our axes are sharp and they can split some wigs, if need be, adds the burly man, grinning.

I'm afraid that King of France has lost merciful ability against Ibero-mans.
After short consideration.
Perharps there's chance for mercy, when last territory of Spanish Throne is being sieged. A small, but still possible.
Further proposals have no point, unless there are some radical changes, which, i doubt about possibility of this.
Then ambassador turns to emissary of danes.
King of France feels sad about recent loss of danes and wishes quick recovery from this incident. This shall not be left unpaid.
May your axes stay sharp and steady!

"It is a grave day indeed for the Spanish throne, who must now also mourn the loss of their beloved, or not so beloved prince. He died the same glorious death most Spanishmen do, run down while cowardly fleeing at the sight of one of Rome's mighty armies. Now that I think of it, are the Spanish the ones who taught the Egyptians that trick? As there seems to be a great Egyptian Migration eastward. Regrettably the Saracen demons left a trail of destruction in their wake as many once great cities and castles now lay in ruins, but on the bright side there were still plenty of valuables left for me to get rich off of."
Grabbing a bag from his assistant, Crowley empties it onto his table. Out fall all kinds of rare jewelry and other Egyptian treasures.
"Speaking of, I have here one of a kind Egyptian gold trinkets and mummified animals; all authentic, straight from the heathen's tombs, and very reasonably priced."
Pointing to a treasure held by an assistant on his left,
"Here I have a mummified cat. Once praised as gods by the ancient Egyptians, now an exotic paperweight for your lords study. And this..."
Crowley holds up a gold necklace with a large ruby center,
"...unique necklace once belonged to Cleopatra. That's right, if you act now, for the small price of nine ninety-nine, you could be the proud owner of a part of history; part of the greatest Egyptian queen and tragedy ever. Offer only good as long as supplies last."
Crowley tosses the necklace into a bag full of similar necklaces. Putting a couple of gold bottles on the table, Crowley continues,
"Ah, here we have frankincense and myrrh. Nothing beats them for making your dead loved one's smell better...or at least bearable. As an added bonus, for any wise men who buy both frankincense and myrrh, not only will you receive a discount, but they will come in these gold bottles. Unfortunately this is a limited time offer, so act now. For all of you who wishes to take advantage of these great deals, just talk to me or any one of my assistants. For those who do not feel they have the money for such luxuries, do not distress for I do offer alternative payment plans and loans."

Recovering, he speaks a few words
That is odd indeed that you say the fatimids appear to migrate east, because my sources have informed me that those forces East of Egypt seem to have disappeared.
Given this apparent surrender, we would offer the Fatimids the chance to live on as a vasal of the Rus state, you shall have the lands bordering the Persian gulf to call your home, but will do nothing against the interests of the Rus nation.

Ambassador rises to speak
Mainland Spain is under control of French and Germans! Former Portugal areas left, Leon and Salamanca taken... but too late. By time when our armies entered these burnt gates, we faced with most harsh cruelty Spanish King has done to his nation. Entire former Spanish capital was burnt down by people's own king!! We couldn't just accept that and pushed our armies to destroy retreating spanish army. A red sky, full of blood of innocent people, showed us path. Sometimes revenge is fruitful you know.... Thank god that Paris didn't fall few seasons ago.
Our spies report that rest of spanish cities are also sacked by his king. Seems that Crown of last of Spanish couldn't face with loss and destroyed remaining small honour with such stupidity and cruelty. Path is clear... no mercy against Heretical King. NEVER!
Last word echoing in hall, ambassador allows servants to let spanish peasant come into hall, burning spanish Royal banner in his left hand. When peasant stops in front of Spanish emissary, he makes most offensive sign known in Spain.
Enjoy your possibly last season as King, you Heretic! King Philip has nice seat in his personal zoo for you.
